How to paint with watercolour using a limited colour palette

This video provides a full demonstration of how to paint faces with watercolour and gouache using a limited palette. I use cadmium yellow, burnt sienna, burnt umber and ultramarine blue to paint this face. This exercise can be used as a full tutorial for beginners to practice watercolour painting using a limited palette. The following steps are important to improve the quality of your painting:
Step 1: Draw a detailed sketch. I do not have any formal training in art. Therefore, I'd like to draw a full sketch for my artwork. That helps me to identify the dark and light areas of the reference image.
Step 2: Start with a light wash. Leave the lightest areas in the figure/object in white colour. Paint the initial shapes.
Step 3: Increase the intensity by applying darker tones. I use gouache for dark values and it can really help you to define your image. I like to use gouache for backgrounds in particular.
Step 4: Final touches.
As you can see, the end result looks very good.
