What a wonderful video! I'm a new and nervous PDK owner and have been doing as much research as possible to help me be a good steward for the car. I'm only at ~27k miles on my '13 911 with no issues but absolutely have a little clunk when downshifting into first at a stop. Many resources around the web indicate that this is very normal and a common experience among most PDK owners. Hopefully this isn't an indication of a failing flywheel as you say.

This was super interesting. Just purchased my first pcar (997.2 C2S PDK) and it’s due for trans service. So happy I found this before I started working on it!

I enjoyed learning about how the PDK transmission works.

I was actually in the market for a used low mileage Porsche Panamera GTS, but after watching this I am highly concerned about having transmission issues and the high cost of repair. I now have to look for a different car.

Don't let this worry you - this is a VERY low percentage of vehicles with PDK issues. We just educate owners so they know there are options for repairs besides full PDK replacement. Do normal maintenance and you're very likely to never have issues. We see Panamera's less often than other models.

Sensor pack is available for some Porsche PDK from the dealer like on the Panamera. Last I checked it is not available for the sportscars 911, Boxster, Cayman.

Correct on the Panamera sensors being available from the dealership. The sensors for 911/Boxster/Cayman are available through other sources - we keep several in stock.

Thanks for the PDK video session. Can you clarify which (part number) 13 pan bolts you use with the cast pan that you described. Thinking the bolts should be more substantial than the originals...Thank you ahead of time..

Yes the PDK can handle that extra power

I'm a newer tech working with transmissions at the moment at a dealership, working towards my drivetrain maters. We do overhaul valve bodies and full units at times. I personally love the science and engineering for the PDK. Do you think it's possible to get a place that solely does transmission / drivetrain work and if so what are some steps that I should take as a passionate learner to this field of work ?

Hi Richard - glad to see your interest in transmissions. There are plenty of shops that specialize in just transmissions (some for drag race, some for specific brands or models, some for automatics, etc). So yes you could easily have a shop that specializes in transmission work. However the bigger question comes down to if you're willing to put your heart and soul into a business and work 60-70 hours a week to get started, and also have the funding to get it started. Starting and/or owning a business is a very challenging and stressful situation that should be considered carefully. Being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, but for those that have the motivation and passion it can be very rewarding.

Are you guys doing these seminars as a training thing? Or was this just a one time deal?
I'm in Miami, have done 6 sensors already, but always willing to learn more. I know you guys and BG Motorsports have a high job count with these things.

This was a presentation for PCA - not so much training. In order to do the level of repairs we do (more than sensors) a shop would need $100k in testing equipment as well as access to parts.

I know it's been a long time. Yes, there's a clutch for the turbo and one for the others. Facelift models also have different ones, turbo still has a bigger clutch.

I got a 2009 Boxster Base 2.9L 987.2 with 49,280mi. When I come to a stop at a red light or go to park the PDK clunks on 1st gear, and if not fully warmed up the car will slip rarely. I got some seepage coming from the top of the transmission. I am told that the PDK is known for clunky noises and the car needs to be fully warmed up. I notice the longer I drive the smoother the shifting gets. Is there any problems with the PDK? Is seepage normal on PDK at 15yr & 50k miles?

Great information on PDK breakdown and knowledge knowing that it can be repaired vs replaced with a new one. I’m currently experiencing codes C456 and 1764 on my 1st Gen 970 turbo. The car had be slipping gears but I still have reverse.. do you think this is a speed sensor or flywheel issue? I have done the PDK service in 2017 at 80k. I haven’t driven the car since 2018.

    • @atlspeedwerks
      @atlspeedwerks  Před 7 měsíci

We put each vehicle through a very thorough evaluation to determine what the cause of a PDK issue is, so it would be very difficult to say until we complete an evaluation on your specific vehicle.

I think porsche design the pdk transmission so that they can control the supply chain, its all a profit thing.
