    ARTMA REPORT
    Monday, 25th March 2024.
BLACK SATURDAY AT BRIDGE HEAD ONITSHA
    17:00 hrs
A loaded Asaba-bound tanker lost control while approaching the bridgehead Onitsha from Upper Iweka and crashed on the foot of the bridge.
The same area ARTMA has been clamoring that Asaba and Benin commercial buses should stop operating from.
Unfortunately, 2 lives were lost, but it could have been more disastrous if not for the continuous enforcement being put in place in the area.
We expected this to serve as an eye-opener for the drivers, but it hasn't. Once officers turn their back on the bridge, tens of such buses would be seen lined up there.
We have designated parks for these Asaba buses by Niger Street and Agbor buses under the flyover, but they are adamant about using them.
It's a new week, and ARTMA is determined to get it right, we would tighten our enforcement plans and have such vehicles impounded for a longer time as paying our fines now means nothing to them.
Passengers also play a vital role, we advise passengers not to put their lives at risk by boarding buses on the express, if all passengers walk to the parks, these reckless drivers would have no reason to be on the express lanes.
May the souls of the departed continue to rest in peace.
    SOLUTION IS HERE
