@@deadpoolphantomjohn265 I would say so, fibreglass is pretty good in a crash, it crumples then gives, crumples, then gives: frontal impact - you have a T shaped steel chassis which gives some protection, but side protection is non existent - just the seat frame really. Out of 10 - 1 being a bike, 10 being a current Volvo.....I'd give it a 4.5 overall. Really great fun and handles like a race car. Just keep up the recommended maintenance for reliability - I commuted in mine about 100 miles a day for a couple of years and I was on it or under it every weekend.
@@deadpoolphantomjohn265 I'm in the UK and good Europas vary between £15K for S2's and £20K for Twin Cams to £35K for immaculate Specials which have been restored, so if it's all there and the chassis is sound, engine pulls good with no smoke and there is evidence some money has been spent on it...then it sounds good to go. The S1 Esprit that followed the Europa (created initially on a modified Europa chassis) won some safety award for crash protection by incorporating steel bars in the doors. On the Europa you could use the hollow side sills to incorporate protection, but you are so low a US car bumper is hitting you more at side window/head height....just be hyper vigilant and avoid other vehicles as they won't see you. Be visible - if necessary repaint in bright green/yellow or as I did Porsche Guards Red - lovely colour BTW. Good luck - you'll enjoy the ride:-) PS - when I sold the Europa I bought an earlier Elan - a 1969 S4 - as I wanted to scratch that itch...but IMO it's not as good. Maybe an Esprit next.
@@deadpoolphantomjohn265 Thanks - I'm a sucker for punishment - so I'll go for an S1 or S2. If you do work on your cars yourself the Europa is easy and plenty of room in the engine bay - you can stand in there and manhandle to gearbox out, in comparison the Elan is impossibly tight on space.
1:19. Sorry, but the original dash had a cut-out for the glove box and the steering wheel is aftermarket as well. 1:47 the charcoal canister, the crossover pipes, as well as the brake servos are missing. 1:49 Sorry but they're closer to 1,600 pounds. Very nice car though!
The colour is Lotus Carnival Red. There are a few changes from original, the dashboard, steering wheel and also the gas struts on the rear engine cover are not original. Also it looks like a repaint as the red paint oxidises and goes dull after about 10 years, requiring a repaint. Great condition for what is a 45 year old car. I bought one in 1973 and still own it and kept original apart from the steering wheel which on the factory delivered cars was a little too big in diameter.
Had one of those for 28 years - most reliable car I've ever owned.
This might sound stupid but is this car semi safe? I know that its not as safe as a volvo but perhaps better than a motorcycle? :)

Sorry, but the gas struts on the rear engine cover are original. Lotus made this improvement sometime after your car was built.
