    Last month we released our review of the Royal Enfield Himalayan which you guys seemed to really like, it’s a great bike that really comes into its own off the tarmac, so we thought we’d share a raw clip of us riding one of the trails we took it on in the Lake District.

      As a relative newbie, I once rode to Rann of Kutch on a Himalayan (a big salt desert in India). Travelled across all kinds of roads to get there. The surface was kind of a weird crystalised sand, very boggy in places and rock hard in others. Was riding with pillion. When we arrived there was a group of other newer riders who had come on various other bikes in the class (BMW 310GS, Kawasaki etc), and they were all completely stuck in one section. Himalayan didn't bog down at all and just casually churned past them all (we had a joke about it, because as it happened I actually rented from the same shop as them, and got "their" Himalayan). I remember how good it felt to ride as a travel bike, it has a really casual demeanour and doesn't feel uncomfortable after a few hours of travel. Everyone talks about the low down torque and long stroke and it really does make a difference, off-road it never does anything unpredictable and for me I found it even easier than riding an Enduro offroad because of their slightly manic nature, height and having to rev them up (although there would obviously be limits with it comes to ground clearance and weight).

    Nice bike but great rider! If you have doubts about your motorcycle, you should be asking instead how good a rider you are.

      Thanks, sure, but it also helps when you ride a bike you are confident tackling rougher terrain with, and the Himalayan does a great job of that. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

    That’s a pretty good run but it did sound like it bogged a little when you grabbed 2nd gear.

      @KnoxArmour  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks, yes it does bog a bit when going up hills into 2nd. Just a character of the motor and the power its got. 1st gear was perfect for the rougher parts. Thanks.!

    Nice ride skill....nothing worse than wet , loose, broken rock !! Kudos from an old MX rider 40 yrs ago. with Suzukis and Yanahas... A great rider makes a good bike better, but a street bike on off-road - no one can help....lol.
    Just wondering.. were those OEM or replacement tyres ?

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 2 lety +1

      Many thanks James! Actually for some reason in the Lake District, sometimes the wet can help.. Anyway, yes these were the Pirelli Mt60 stock tyres with reduced tyre pressures. The Himalayan also has an incredibly tractable motor which massively aids the grip. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

    It hurts me watching it get thrashed over rocks, etc. can this bike really handle that?

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes it can, although we did destroy the sump guard. It could do with a bit more ground clearance and a stronger sump guard. Other than that, its great. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

    Off road??? Off pavement mate. A trail like that is often a regular rural road here in British Columbia. Nice riding on a heavy bike. Fred Bailey

    I,v had my Him a couple of years ,,and yeah I take it off road... its ok ,maybe abit heavy,,, but one of my real dislikes about the bike is the action of the forks,,,really jarring not bottoming out but a real unpleasant action... thinking about some new springs or valves...

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi, yes that might be a good idea. There are some dealers now offering suspension upgrades and improvements to ride height too. We didnt have a problem with the front tbh, thought it was very well damped, however, ours may have different valving than yours. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

    The Himalayan is obviously a very capable bike, but it’s rather heavy and underpowered for its capacity.
    A Big bore kit, stage 1 or 2 cam, carb conversion and decent larger diameter unrestricted de-cat exhaust would turn it into the bike it really should be.
    Before you tell me I’m wrong, you need to remember that the Himalayan weighs the same as the somewhat porky BMW F650GS Dakar. And the Honda CFR250 puts out the same power and weighs over 100lbs less...!
    A lot of what makes one bike handle a variety of off and on road situations better than another, boils down to its power to weight ratio. 1/3 more weight is a lot, especially when the power output is just 24HP.
    Okay, the Honda is going to cost a lot more money new, but not so much more second hand. Plus you’re getting a Honda.
    That’s why my vote is torn. I’m a big Honda guy (I can’t recall exactly how many I currently own, but it’s less than 12). So perhaps you can deduce how big a vote of confidence it is on my part to suggest that a modified Himalayan is potentially the more interesting option.
    Well, it would be if my own dual sport project didn’t involve putting a BMW F650GS Dakar engine into a CCM frame to create a 50HP bike that weighs approximately the same as the Honda CFR250, but with twice the power on tap!

    • @KnoxArmour
      @KnoxArmour  Před 3 lety +2

      Sure they are great bike the CRF250 and we didnt compare it. However, what was clear was that the Himalayan did a great job off the tarmac and despite its weight and spec sheet it was a lot easier to ride off road than other Adventure bikes we have taken on similar terrain. Thanks, Aaron KNOX
