A Rescore/Re-edit of Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader by A.B.Director.
With Darth Vader on his trail and obsessed with revenge, Obi-Wan (Ben) Kenobi decides to finally face his old apprentice once again.
The final battle from the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series, rescored and re-edited with John Williams' iconic music from The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. The fight has been re-arranged to play as a single sequence without any interruptions, including some dialogue cuts and pauses (such as Vader trapping Obi-Wan underground and leaving him for dead). The sound design has also been re-edited and re-mixed extensively.
The scene has also been re-color-graded.

Do u have one with your visuals but the original score??
hey, can you stabilize the shaky cam too? to make the fight look like a prequel choreography instead of a modern generic action movie?
@jam of fog fr, I always thought the idea of a snowy duel would be fire but then force awakens happened 💀
Your OG version is fucking epic
How’d you remove it? What program
When Ewan says "I will do what I must" I swear that's the closest he's come to truly sounding like Sir Alec Guinness.
Agreed. It was like they took young ewan and sir alec and mixed the two.
Ewan himself explained that he tried so hard to honor guiness , because his role as obi wan was inspired by him.
Imo it's the "hello there" in rots 😉
It's just a repeat of what he said in ROTS. Also, why didn't he just kill him this time?
Can we also take note and appreciate the fact Obi-Wan’s lightsaber ignition sound has been rightfully corrected, especially after having to hear the Sith ignition sound for it constantly in the Disney+ series!
Absolutely! I don't understand how do you work on an official Star Wars project for Lucasfilm & screw up the most important details. Good thing we have fan edits!
@@biggstan870 what dire straits are we in where we must rely on unofficial content to deliver the _real_ goods?!
Feel like whoever did the audio editing isn't really aware of the significance of some of the sounds but just shoved whatever sounded "cool".

heresy… a fine addition to my vocabulary!
Duel of the Fates can be added to any fight scene to instantly make it 200% more awesome
It would get old if it were in every duel. Besides, the music between Luke and Vader fighting is, imo, better. There's so much emotion in that duel and in the song itself that it still gives me goosebumps when I watch it.
@@roadkillz78 It's an exaggeration meant to appreciate the song. I do the same thing with the Suicide Mission score from Mass Effect 2. It wouldn't *literally* make any irl activity more awesome, but I like to say it would because it's an awesome soundtrack that's all about grit and perseverance to defeat impossibility
This vid is fucking epic

Omg, the color grading, the original track, and then edited out Reva's scenes. 10 out of 10.
Right Revas scenes ruined it they kept cutting back to her and I was pissed I thought it wasted the movie/show. Like wasn’t this the kenobi series ?? Not reva series

Good god, the color grading on this is soooo good. The lightsabers just pop out of the abyss so much better now. And as so many others have said the addition of actual John Williams music makes this feel sooooooooooooo much better. Such a shame he wasn’t used more for the show.
It’s because Disney thinks they know better than 40 years of special FX experts and they use “real” lightsabers, essentially the $20 electronic plastic ones you get from the store because “the lighting effects look more authentic” ya except for the fact it looks like when my brother and I would turn off the lights in our basement and play with our lightsabers. You can’t see shit and it fucks with the ability to do good fight choreography like in the prequels.
Why did I read that in obi wans voice
@@jeezus557 Yea ILM knows their shit better than anybody in the industry. Disney shouldn’t try to fuck with that
@@jeezus557 I heard that they were using the high end sabers on set. Even so, the brighter you make them, the better they looked.
(And yes, I love my legacy sabers).

Christ died for your sins and rose on the third day, showing that anyone who trusts in him for salvation, will have everlasting life.
(John 11:25-26) "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?"
(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
It’s thought provoking how fans do miles Better at editing these than the studio itself.
It’s because they are truly passionate about how it should feel
Studios don't edit, individual editors do.
Agree completely.
This version actually feels like a fight between them.
Dude!! How is it a guy on youtube can make this fight sooo much more intence than the people who were PAID to make it?!? Seriously this video had my heart pumping, keep it up man!!

Adding the 'Duel Of The Fates' to this was not only a real nice touch but it makes the battle feel twice as epic, i love it. Great job!
it doesnt fit imo. the duel seen here is too slow and labored for something as fast as duel of the fates.
Ngl. I cried a little when duel of the Fates transcended.
which is saying something as the original duel was already quite epic and tense
Battle of the Heroes would of been more fitting
@@gmcubed agree too. While the colour grading is very nice, I dont think Duel of the Fates works here. The original soundtrack is great imo.
This fight was 50x better now that I can see what they were actually doing. Very much appreciate the hard work you put into making this scene better.
It still gives me chills to have been in this fandom long enough to go from the Jedi Apprentice books of Obi-Wan struggling to move a simple pebble to just absolutely bombarding Vader with everything he can possibly throw at him. Literally.
Jedi Apprentice were great books. Thanks for reminding me of those.
Man the fight’s actually pretty good when you can see what the hell the actors are doing 😂
💯 😅
Camera was still shakey tho
Agreeeeeed
Exactly !
There's many parts where either kenobi or vader could have easily won and they let their lightsabers drift around a lot
The lighting on the lightsabers is so much better now and natural looking. They really did look like toy glowsticks in the original cut of the show
Part of that reason is the new lightsaber props. In TFA, the behind the scenes show they basically use an actual prop saber, like SaberForge or something, so that the actors have the lighting on their body. It kind of makes sense. The characters can see the color, the blade is a glowing with light. Why isn't the color coming off of it? Cuz they didn't think of that allot in the older production films. The actual choreography and dialogue and effects in other places took priority, plus as everyone clearly feels, it does visually get in the way.
@@hophoppington-hoppenhiemer4386 In addition to casting light, the saber props also help with reflections such as those on Vader's helmet. It's doable with CGI, but a lot of work to make it look convincing.
@@cass7448 Yeah, but the grade fucked it up and I think the LED's are way to intense for "natural" light. I mean if it were a real lightsaber we couldn't see shit, so its definetely not real, but if it didn't look so compressed and blown it would look way less, like a fan-film.
I also don't like the fact that they spark so much . That would be a flaw lightsaber craftsman would've fixed immediately because of the risk of a Jedi or sith weapon sparking them in the face in combat . Seems to be a thing Disney started with the new trilogy and ran with.
@@MrFreakinAwesome20 These sparks have been around for many years, in all the old and new star wars games there are these sparks the new Disney movies and series just got this effect from the games, but that doesn't make sense because the old movies didn't have that, and neither I know why they added it currently, as you said it can cause burn to the user
Also its crazy how a colour change can give Vader that menacing feel he had in the original trilogy 😮 truly captured the nostalgia here
So is Obi wan the only one who's darth vader has got beef with or anyone else got beef with Obi wan and wants a peac of him
You know if you ignore every single other part of the show and just watch this it’s actually pretty good
I do love the color grade. It not only makes the cinematography stand out more, but it does kinda remind me more of the darker scenes from _The Empire Strikes Back._
i noticed you fixed obiwan saber to not ignite with the sith sound!
That colour grading is perfect, you have restored the scene to a watchable state. And of course the soundtrack is infinitely better than in the series.
Oh and I forgot to mention with the colour changes it actually looks a lot more like the originals, especially at the start, although some of the CGI is a bit more apparent.
Really liked how the color grading made this scene look! The brighter tone made it feel much better from the darkness originally. The lightsabers are slightly desaturated but thats honestly for the better cause it makes then shine much better in the dark.
Also, I really liked how you were able to seamlessy cut the battle down by moving shots closer (like how instead of having Obi-Wan and Vader do the back-on-back hits you instead opted to immediately cut towards when Obi-Wan grabbed Vader's wrist and move him)
Its a really good way to shorten the fight and It works really seamlessly!
Also, Duel of the Fates with Battle of the Heroes is always a win so great music choice there too. Noticed you also resounded it and the extra impact sounds definitely make it feel more of a duel than before.
Still definitely don't like shaky cam but thats not something that can be fixed without warping. Great job!
This colour grading is fantastic, it just really improves the whole scene. Disney, hire this person!
What? How? The blades are far too bright washed out.
@@IvanKinkle I think they look pretty good. But I do see where you are coming from
Damn straight! Obiwans Lightsaber finally looks like a lightsaber and not like some oversaturated LED-Stick.
Anyone with a decent TV got a great experience in the real version… there’s no way this looks better unless you’re watching it sat outside in broad daylight, with sunlight all over the screen😂
@@IvanKinkle The blades Disney uses are far too bright, full stop, the new grading atleast makes the scene watchable.
You made the lightsabers the way the were, actual energy blades instead of Disney's light sticks! And with the score, as well as the colour grading, this is amazing! Well done! Really loved this!
Heaven forbid lightsabers emit light.
@@spacecase8888 What im trying to say is that it doesn't just look like the props they use, which are actual light sticks
My brain is broken over what you are saying in this comment. They made the lightsabers actual energy instead of light sticks. I don’t even know where to go with this. What a brain dead statement.
Like why, what’s the implication? The Disney ones look fake because there is more color? I don’t understand. I just watched the Disney one after reading this comment and they are the exact same. Minus the fact that the color pops more on the source material.
@@mitchellbrinkerdp not exactly, it looks fake because of its like rugged camera movement, how theres sparks when the lightsabers colide etc. If u think that the disney one looks good, then its fine by me. I liked the way the it looked in the originals and prequels, a white energy blade with the respective coloured aura. To me, that is a lightsaber, not this disney glow stick
This is fantastic! With the lighting making it easier to see, you appreciate Hayden and Ewan's fight choreography and practice more. Hayden is a beast, and makes Vader the absolute force of nature that he was always meant to be ❤
wasnt acctually hayden fighting in this scene, vader was played by three different dudes. one 6'7 giant for the full body shots, hayden for the rest of the acting portions and then another guy who specialised in the choreography.
@@bingus1456I’m pretty sure it was Hayden under the suit in this scene. You can tell when Vader looks a little shorter.
The color grading looks fantastic. I'm not sure why Peak TV has decided everything needs to be too dark to see now, but it's getting in the way of some good fight choreography.
That being said, I think Natalie Holt's existing score works for this scene. There are choral elements, and the Obi-Wan theme composed by Williams swells as Kenobi finally gets his mojo back. I worry the SW fandom is too attached to certain musical cues and is unwilling to even listen to new stuff, which really shortchanges the hard work that went into the score for this show. I also think Duel of the Fates is more of a "spectacle" piece and doesn't really fit with the more personal nature of the duel (though you've cut out Obi-Wan's character beat in the middle, which also kind of undercuts the sequence). It conveys tone, but not the nuance of the moment.
I agree with everything you said. Initially I liked the dark color grading of the original fight, and I feel this to be a tad bright + desaturated. However the darkness of the original definitely focuses more on the lightsabers moving rather than some of the really good choreography that I got to appreciate more here.
And nothing to add on what you said about the music, I completely agree. Duel of the Fates is great but Star Wars should be allowed to keep changing and Natalie Holt's score fit perfectly.
I was about to post a response quite like this, but repetition. As much as I love "Duel of the Fates" and the "Battle of Heroes," those times are over. Thematically, it doesn't make sense for this fight.
I remember, as an OT guy, cringing at the PT music simply because it was new. These days, I try to set my prejudice aside and just appreciate the scores as best I can and give them time to gain meaning within my personal love of Star Wars.
Lighting? Yes. Between that and "shaky camera," I'm a bit over it.
The score on this show was so forgettable.
Love your take on the score
As much as I disliked Holt's work on the series, I think her music improved during the second half of the show and I didn't mind the score for the duel sequence. John Williams' work was, is and will forever be untouchable but I don't think it belongs here either. Let's be honest, how many of us - had Disney opted to use it for that scene - would have groaned in disdain and called it hokey fan service ? Quite a few innit ?
WOW.
I thought the fight wasn't too bad the way it aired, but DAMN this is SO MUCH BETTER!!
Seeing this scene completely uninterrupted makes such a huge difference to the overall enjoyment of it. The recoloring as well as adding Duel of the Fates are details that I can't believe weren't a part of the original cut. Then cutting the part when Vader traps Obi-wan under the rubble was a huge improvement to the overall pacing. I'm truly blown away by how much of a better job you did with this epic moment. Bravo sir!
I'm so unbelievably impressed at how you've stopped that colour bleed being intrusive, I didn't believe anyone could fix the sabers in this show, it was like cartoon colours painted on their faces. Bravo sir, you're a master of your trade. Do you plan to fix the colour on their first fight?
The sabers were very horrible in this show as well 😂
@@The_Kingdom_Citizen how, those were real lightsabers, the ones in the prequels were just painted on vfx
@@EthanRom The sequels use light emitting sabers as well, but I think the force awakens fight looks great. These are just too bright or saturated, I think the dark is the main issue because the sabers in the flashback fight looked better
@@EthanRom the sequels bit sounds unrelated sorry, what I mean is real lightsabers are great but I don't think the show had the time to learn to use them the way the sequels did
@@TimeToRemind I think that they just needed to make the strength of the light weaker, enough to make a glow, but not enough to overpower. I was just upset that ppl are insinuating that the older lightsaber vfx were better
Everytime I see Vader getting defeated, it’s really heartbreaking.
In 1983 I cried when Luke was destroying Vader and hearing that injured weezing breathing sound.
I’m astounded by how much more I can appreciate this fight with the colours sorted out
So removing most of the color and making it look more washed out and grainy makes it more enjoyable? :D
2:26 is the best bit so far! The Music went so well with that little bit of choreography! Well done
100% Agree! The amount of times I've replayed this part alone haha.
Love the part at the end ( 3:40 ) when the theme suddenly stops instead of continuing to its epic finale. It's more immersive as the music abruptly ending fits in with the fight abruptly ending with Vader's helmet being cut
its like in rotj when the music stops when anakins legs are chopped off
It's amazing how we finally can SEE all the subtle emotions on Obi's face during the fight. It's precious! Thank you so much for this video!
Jesus Christ this is Genius! This could be better than the original from Disney plus!
The lightsabers look better, the music fits with the duel perfectly and the background colors are way more visible. This should have been the actual cut Disney should have used instead of what we were actually given.
Great work!
Loveeee the re color and removal of some dialogue. Excellent work !

@@ABdirector ahh thanks my man! Appreciate it!
Agreed for the most part but the line “your strength has returned, but the weakness still remains” was hard as fuck lol
Loved the color grading. It gives a more film like 80s look. Just wonderful.
What a gorgeous edit! The music, colors and adjusted pacing of the fight are excellent. As much as I liked the TV series final battle, this one ticks all the right boxes for me. Fantastic work.
love the subtle nervousness of Vader adjusting his two-hand grip at 1:20
You can actually see the choreography in this and it’s actually not bad. Compared to the actual show where all you can see is what the lightsabers light up.
forget the music, just the fact that you didn't have two storylines being switched between makes this so much better. Constantly coming out of the fight took away the intensity. Why Disney thought interupting it every 30 seconds was a good idea I will never know.
This was so good! Thank you for the work put into this. You made the scene much more enjoyable for me. Wish you could do the whole episode....
This is such a great edit that makes the fight feel so much more fluid and exciting! Nice work.
Disney finally gives us an amazing fight that we can barely see due to the scenery being super dark and making the camera super shaky
Yeah, I watched Ep3, and then the Patterson cut of Obiwan and I kept wondering who thought it was a good idea to have shaky cameras.
Patterson cut fucking blows. There's so many more edits out there that are way better.
You can most certainly blame the production team that was hired to do Kenobi. They botched this show. Judging by the Andor teaser, it already looks 100% better with the cinematography, in fact that same director who did the acclaimed Rogue One is literally doing that Disney+ show. So, half the time I wouldn't say it's Disney's fault, but more so that actual people that should be blamed.
@@wanyekest6969 i would say that nor Disney or the production team was the problem... the budget was the problem, if i tell you how much they had, you are going to be surprised by how good it is "apart from 2 or 3 things"
they had 90$ Milion, for the entire show
this means likely..... 15 Milions per episode, it's actually pretty impressive
@@DarthVader-ky4qx how much does and or have ??
Loved the use of that Force Unleashed force push sound effect for when Kenobi starting throwing the rocks at Vader. Simple sound effect, but I'll never forget it from all the hours of TFU that I played.
Best re-edit/score of the scene I’ve seen, love it!
Bravo, Maestro! Thank you for taking the time to make this scene look and sound proper.
I can never understand the decision to make the whole scene dark and grainy, we get it that it's very dark on that planet, but couldn't they add a moonlight to illuminate the whole thing?
The fight feels so different when it makes sense and you can actually see it 🤧🤧🤧
I like how you can see that here Obi-Wan takes on a more offensive/aggressive style in general, though especially with his final blow, calling back to the fact that he originally mastered form 4 before he transitioned to become *the* master of form 3. And with him mixing in the force into his saber combat we see some form 6 as well.
What made the battle in Episode 3 so pitched was the fact that Obi Wan and Anakin both knew each others styles so well from all their years together. Vader was forced to change his style so Obi Wan lost all that familiarity. So he had to change his usual tactics and style with almost uncharacteristic, episode 1 like aggression and showing out his offensive force abilities to win
Definitely works being a little brighter overall. Can appreciate the choreography much better. Reduces the colour wash from the sabers too. Much nicer
I mostly agree, but could have been a few shades darker, or at least for some scenes. I did see what they were trying to do there with the original darker lighting. Which was to cover up their shody craftsmanship. The mediocre CGI and at times "very obviously a set." Needs darker lighting and shadows to hide the obvious detail. The brighter lighting of this edit exposes that in a few scenes. ( 2:35-3:05 ) A few shades darker and it would have looked a little more natural. Small nitpick, and still Disney's fault.
I do prefer Battle of the Heroes for these two but this edit was phenomenal. At every turn the fans continue to outshine the 'professionals'.
Really appreciate the editing in making this fight continuous, rather than showing the bit where Obi Wan is trapped in the hole. This made the fight feel complete.
Incredibly well made. This nails the original trilogy aesthetic. The lightsabers look so much better now
Wow this is 1000% better. Music timed perfectly and appropriate for each event and you can actually see what's happening. Amazing job.
John Williams music adds so much more gravitas to the picture. Wow it more authentic Star Wars. Bravo
I agree that DotF is a good add in for the start, but towards the end, the original score actually helps to make the defeat of Vader more somber, which I think is the point.
But it certainly helped make the cool fight theatrics more intense.
Beautiful. Thank you for this awesome edit and especially thank you for cutting out Darth Vaders cheesy one liners.
That was BADASS!! Was practically jumping out of my seat; fantastic work!!
Whatever you did to edit the part where Obi-Wan repeatedly strikes Vader's chest plate, braaaavo. Seriously, the original looks like Vader is just standing there letting it happen. You did something to add speed and f o r c e to those blows that literally make Vader look restrained and unable to counter. Fantastic improvement on that alone.
I think all he did was make it brighter so you could actually see what was happening lol
Bruh he’s getting struck directly to the lungs at that point, imagine the needles that are piercing deeper as well, I would stand still too if I got the wind knocked out of me every second, I’d say Vader recovered quickly considering that’s his most vulnerable spot that was getting smashed in
The reason why Vader is standing there (at least my opinion) is because when Obi-Wan starts hitting his control panel you see some sparks come out, and also seeing Vaders stance while this is happening, it's quite possible he's either getting a bit electrocuted or some of his body stops functioning. Also, during this time that Obi-Wan is hitting his panel the thing that helps Vader breathe goes out out a bit. That's why when it comes back on, you hear a gasp from Vader and he's mobile again
@@kylo7118 excuses
@@StillTendo no they're just brainstorming why it could be valid? I'm gonna be honest I didn't see anything wrong with the original right besides the cuts and it not being continuous. To me these are two different versions of the same encounter that portray is differently to a degree but especially change the emotions and general vibe that the viewer leaves with after watching the scene. This creator has done an absolutely fantastic job no doubt, but I'd like to hear what you disliked about the original version 😄
This is amazingly done! Really makes me enjoy the duel much more even with all the shaky cam
This editing is SOOOO MUUUCH BETTER than the original!
I just love how fans do this great job for comunity for free, and make it even better than original. Fantastic
Love the way Vader’s head/Helmet is so henched forward at 1:22. Really shows how hungry he is to kill Obi Wan
I really like that moment too, as it seems to me that's when Vader starts to take Obi Wan seriously again.
Phenomenal job with the color grading and score. I can actually see what the hell happened during their fight!
I just watched this 5 times back-to-back. And this is coming from someone who appreciates the original version as it was in the show-- you took it to a WHOLE nother level. I felt like I was watching true honest to God Star Wars. Plus, somehow the fight chorography was even MORE intense! I came away with even more respect for Ewan, because your tweaks really allowed the footage to showcase not only his saber skills but his acting. Bravo, A.B., bravo.
Looks like the Jump cuts were trimmed, and some extra care was taken to reduce the shaky-cam effect

The Duel of the Fates score adds some much more emotion behind this.
This perfectly demonstrates what I’ve been saying about lightsabers in Kenobi, they colour they give off is so overpowering but this version still shows off the blue and red light they give off but it’s not too much, perfection
Taking away the artificial shaky camera effect is such an improvement made here too!

Mad how so many people are actually re editing this better than Disney
This is amazing!!
John Williams is a musical genius, and a huge credit to the brand’s identity. The music, specially at the the beginning and ending elevates the scene entirely
I like the color grade and how you brightened it up. Lightsaber colors are more in line with the original trilogy, nice job
Pinnacle part of the whole Star Wars universe and the story we all grew up with and the fact a fan did this and not those that give us the movies and series we grew up with and watch to this day is absolute criminal but also very appreciated.
Not to undermine the color work done here at all (well done!) - it's amazing what a good score can do!
