Sam's voice is pure sunshine in this, and Ren's is all smoke and jazz. Such a fantastic contrast. I love how rapt the crowd is; when Ren gets soft, you could almost hear a coin drop. And in all of his live videos, I get excited whenever Ren leans down to fiddle with the pedal board, because you never know what might happen next!

Another enjoyable reaction. I would recommend "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble so Hard," a Big Push busking performance next. It shows another side of Ren's talent and also shows Gorran Kendell's vocal skills. Well worth a reaction video. If you want to do a Sam Tompkins solo reaction, here is a list of recommendations: "Bloodline," "Hero," "Follow Suit," “Whole,” “Not So Grey,” "You Broke My Heart So Gently," "Critical," "You're The Love Of My Life," “Google Luv,” "Ten Feet Apart," and his cover of Tears For Fears' "Mad World" are beautiful, but his entire catalog is well-worth listening to. I usually prefer the acoustic version of his songs. His latest release, "Time Will Fly," is currently my favorite song of his and one of my favorite songs overall, with "See Me" and "Lose It All" running close behind. His rendition of "How To Save A Life (Cover)" is also stunning and reveals his soulfulness. Unfortunately, it is way too short, not the full-length version of the original.
Ren singing and performing is something that makes you stop and get inside his universe,it’s such a subtle attraction that you can’t even understand it right away !

I sincerely hope that Ren and his collaborators never get so famous that they are unable to busk in Brighton. Even once he is able to do more traditional concerts, I think busking will provide something to fuel him in a very special way. It's a beautiful thing to watch.

Respect to Joe for being so familiar with the original classics, that he can enjoy the lyrics, melodies and vocal iterations already imbedded in his head. I had a similar feeling the first time I enjoyed this performance, because just like Joe; I was called back to the originals, yet almost cried at the nuanced inflections on show here. This is the opposite of one of them awful "talent" shows. These two know their craft and know when to take 20% off the top for a specific line or verse, and understand the original songs enough to respectfully and creatively play within the boundaries, without just wailing at the top of you voice and adding too many flourishes where the lyrics and meaning and pace deserve quite the opposite. Wonderful reaction.

So, I'm about 99% convinced Ren's guitar bit at the end is inspired by a track called "Maggot Brain" by the band Funkadelic and featuring the guitarist Eddie Hazel. The ostinato Ren puts on the loop pedal is lifted straight from "Maggot Brain" and the tones he wrestles out of his guitar are very reminiscent of it as well.

Hi Joe E, I agree with with Sam's falsetto, it naturally comes from deep with in. But Rens guitar playing another dimension, that ending wow! I'm sure you had a little tear there...of joy. You may need a larger space to jump around...Peace☝️🖼☝️🎇🤓
One of my faves! When I saw this it was the first time I realized just how good Rens voice really was, and saw him beatboxing. IMO it’s one of the best displays of his range of talents. This and Sweet Little Lady live acoustic :)

I've come to the conclusion that Ren only surrounds himself with outstandingly talented people. It's amazing, and this is such a fun ride!
Another fun rabbit hole to tumble down is Streetlight Manifesto, especially if you like horns. My introduction to them was "We Will Fall Together", and it's still one of my favorite tracks. "Would You Be Impressed?", "Point/Counterpoint", "Keasbey Nights", "Here's to Life", "A Moment of Silence/A Moment of Violence", "A Better Place, A Better Time", "Somewhere in the Between", "The Hands that Thieve", their cover of Squirrel Nut Zippers' "Hell"... so many good tunes!

Make a video of a full song or two if you see something you like; or maybe a little mini-documentary to give us glimpses of several bands, or something! Try something different, do some networking, spread the love to some deserving artists, pass the Ren goodness forward another step...!

I'm curious to get your take on Sam Tompkins more recent stuff. For me it seems like he can't really reach these high notes anymore but I'm no expert. It just doesn't sound as clean to me.
