  • MPC vs DAW is the workflow or is one just better.
    I will explain why I made a change that I should've made years ago.
    With the Akai MPC One+, you get a groovebox that fuels your creative journey like never before. This standalone MPC convinces with a workflow that ignites your productivity and creativity. Beatmakers, producers and live performers will be delighted by the heart of the MPC One+ - the powerful multi-core processor that is already used in the flagship MPC X. Instruments, audio, MIDI and effects processing - everything is mastered by the MPC One+.
    A digital audio workstation is an electronic device or application software used for recording, editing and producing audio files

    Thats a great point , I really agree with you .
    The last couple years I made beats with FL studio , but after these couple years I had enough sittin infront of a computer to make beats . Than I took a break over one year , I had no Motivation to make beats .
    Than last year in march my girlfriend gave me the MPC live 2 as a birthday present .
    I am so thankful for this .
    And now I‘m back and I make more beats like the last 5 years , and thats all just in one year 😌👋
    I love my mpc live 2
    Sorry for my english

      You can use the mpc vst full software inside of your daw like Ableton or whatever. So you can cut samples and chop up in the mpc and then move to the daw for more control over effects and mastering, or you can do that on the mpc also. You have so many options this way.

    it's all about how you start. I chop everything up in a DAW with mouse and keyboard. It's more natural for me because I've been using mouse and keyboard even before making music.. but I see how it could be more productive for those who started on an MPC. Personally, I feel the MPC is a middleman between ME and the DAW so I cut the middleman out. I also understand that I need a specific middleman (MPC) for my preference.

      Understood- I started on analog so I’m use to not working with computers. We use to record with a 16 track mixer and produce with drum machines.
      Analog is alot more hands on, I think that’s why the Mpc just comes so natural to me and any chop I can I do on the Mpc- you can do in the daw it’s just about what works for you.

    I go hybrid. I use both. I'll track some things on my Akai Force then track it into Logic right away. I do the same thing with my synthesizers. I may add a couple tracks using a VSTi. And I have some pretty expensive outboard gear, so I hybrid mix with those and Waves Vsts. But I try to do as much as possible outside of the box on the front end so I don't have to mix much on the back end. Mainly just fades and effects before bouncing the track.
    I'm just happy that I finally got all my drum machines and synthesizers synced up via midi. The iConnect Midi4 is a lifesaver.

    I used the MPC one in a Dawless setup for 3 years. Had various setups including Microkorg, Minilouge XD, Korg Krome, SP404 and Cobalt 5s. It's a really intuitive way to make beats, I never used the software because it defeated the object for me. I started to have issues with the workflow and found I was creating a lot of loops and not finishing the song. I think the new MPC are trying to hard to do everything which causes it to fall behind in a many areas.
    In the end it felt like I was trapped so I just migrated back to DAW and honestly its like i been set free. I sold all of my hardware and copped Komplete 14 standard license transfer, Cubase 13, Komplete Kontrol s49 and a few other essentials. I gotta say im loving it and its so much easier to be inspired and created for me. There is so much power using a daw and technology has moved on to where I feel the MPC workflow was regressing me musically

    I had a love hate with MPC. Got a new MPC ONE PLUS. So frustrated with it at first. Suddenly, a few great folks opened my eyes to all the features not so obvious to a new user. After that, I was super happy with it. I ended up giving it to my son who was struggling with some issues to help him out and enjoy it more than I would. Now, I miss it. We both reflect on how much better the MPC's are vs. DAW. It just keeps you focused and the overall experience feels approachable. DAWS are overly complete for most and we'll never use all the BS. MPC has more than enough to do just about everything you can in one box and one interface. I'd be buying an X se today, but out of stock. :( Almost tempted to grab the Key 61. I just love those OLEDs on the X! more knobs the better :)

    @DJLNR. Před 5 měsíci +1

    I hope everyone knows the mpc was first and best because its hardware, how the daw is useful is if you're like me, I'm a pianist(own a piano amd keyboard) composer and like to see the keys etc piano gui/layouts. I'm a riff ceeator, producer's are creators of already created riffs so its all derivative riffs and sounds, no ownership at all over the original it was taken from no matter how popular the new version gets over the original, without the original it would never exist, further more, the social web had made it possible for all sorts of music to be liked than thr old days of having to really like music to keep sound player in a working order, today mist devices handle playing of music if not many formats just mp3 which shouldnt be hard nowadays converting most audio formats to.
    Maybe most of all for some not yet realised, lets say you music or a track becomes super liked by many and they ask how did you come up with it etc etc, what made you think of those chord-style/notes?, you'd feel unimportant as you should because you're not the base/foundation creator..
    Think of a singer/rapper, when you were young and didn't bother to think anything else but the music and visuals you got so into the artist subliminally and ultimately what made the track was the lyrics alimg with beat but unless the artist is playing a instrument you would just take them for the vocals thus they wrote it etc what an amazing artist only kater to find out they were just an actor reading or singing/rapping someone else's lines or even true story most of the time.l which has nothing to do with them but the image sells and its what you and even me when young wouldve thought simple as that.
    Now you're older, its obvious that theres people that cant make anything on their own which is the majority and the few like me would use a sampler to handle layers if or when the pc devices break down.
    But if you don't even have the skills to even make a full beat and put to a cd or vinyl using an mpc then daw would be the best. Im sure many who say the mpc the best are feeding it into a pc.. ???? Downgrading the sound regardless of hiw great the soundcard or pc is, introducing noise into files that were never there when in the hardware sampler, the akai samplers from the nineties are great. Just make sure you have floppy disks or a zip drive.

  • @AyoMillz
    @AyoMillz Před 4 měsíci +1

    I believe the biggest misconception is that people feel that it's MPC vs/or DAW... when in fact - it's always been MPC + DAW.. The MPC was created to be the heart/centerpiece of the modern studio for the composer/producer BUT you always needed something to print the final idea (Newer MPCs not so much)... but my theory for that is pretty much the same for any other musician... the same way you could "draw" chords in your DAW's piano roll; playing even the most basic chords or melody on a keyboard/midi device the performance becomes that much more expressive (an extension of the musician)... The MPC becomes an instrument to the composer/producer to me making the music just more expressive

      Why use an MPC when you already have a DAW that does everything better.

    • @AyoMillz
      @AyoMillz Před 4 měsíci

      @@Gearrion you are right in that most DAWs can do everything the MPC does however the term better is subjective... BUT the two things that I advocate is (1) the extension of expression as the machine becoming an instrument and (2) sound - even with the latest MPCs being very clean; that analog dimension still adds flavor

    At this point for me they're all mostly the same, just a few different nuances here and there ... Every tool of choice has their pro and cons, but at the end of the day they're just that... tools! It all depends on the type of music you make and what you're comfortable with for creating right away. In my case, over the years I've had the MPC 2000xl, mpc 1000, MPC 2500, Korg triton, Yamaha Motif.... Sold all that stuff years ago, and now I've learned to master using Studio One 5 and FL Studio 21 (with of course a good MIDI controller and some really good 3rd party instruments/fx vsts)... I like to create different genres of music and I'm more on the composer side of things , so I find my daw workflow a lot quicker than when I had hardware.... But again, to each his own... end of the day they're all similar tools for your personal end result

    • @Dahomestudio
      @Dahomestudio  Před 5 měsíci

      Definitely have the same end game- I just feel a lot more creative with the Mpc than the Daw, but I can work both if I had to.

    Did you grow up with a computer? You're fucking with a DAW like FL Studio or Pro Tools.
    Did you not grow up sitting at a computer? You're most likely going to fuck with an MPC.
    They both are great tools to make music. You can do more with a DAW but that doesn't
    mean you still can't make incredible music with an MPC. I've been fucking with the MPC
    for 25+ years. I still remember my first MPC 1000 that had the Spiderman theme. These
    days I've had an MPC X since it was released. Even still, barely touch it. I'm at the point
    where I'm thinking about selling it, but probably won't, just because I enjoy having it even
    though I hardly ever touch it. I FL Studio 99% of the time I make new music. I grew up
    with a computer and I'm on a computer more hours a day then I'm not on a computer.

    MPC can never outpace a DAW on a good rig. You're limited on the CPU side; how are you going to compare a $900 CPU in a Macbook vs a $200 CPU in an MPC. How many channels can you mix with the MPC cause again you are limited with RAM on that MPC. The sample quality and size are limited by the lack of storage space on that MPC as well. Need a plugin or two? Not with that MPC; not going to happen.

      Its ALL about HOW you edit. Quantization is NOT the way. From I touched Logic Version 5.0, I've never switched since. I had a MPC 3000 LE & I got rid of it. I like to go in on Pulse Per Quarter note precision. NO 16T or 32T rubbish. I FIND MY OWN locations for beats. The DAW DOES nothing until YOU DO.
