Had a phase 90 back in the day and really loved it chained at about 10% after a distortion+. It's kind of cool how MXR made the effect amplitude rise as you increase the frequency - although that may have just been the nature of the circuit - never really looked inside one. Got a Kokko now and like it even better. Good take-your-time-and-listen demo, Ry!

So glad I watched this was looking for a cheep two stage mini phase .this will do nicely .Thanks to all the comments that explained that.
I believe the 90 is 4 stage. The phase 45 is 2 stage.
@@kevingriffin8854 Yeah I have a 90 the EVH 90, and a 95 that does 90 ,and 45 script ,and block .Also a vintage Maestro mini phase, a Mu-tron phasor III ,a Keeley 24 (that does 2, and 4 stage) EQD grand orbiter, a Walrus Lillian ,a nebulous ,and now this little Kmise that worked out great for the cheap mini 2 stage phaser I was looking for to finish a project .What can I say I like phasers
I just bought the kmise phaser and I've owned quite a few phasers before. It was just so cheap and tiny I had to 😄 I opened it up immediately because I always do and it's really well built for what it is. Maybe the pot is a little weak but I was expecting very little. A few things:
1) I think it's more like a phase45 than a phase 90 circuit which is only a 2 stage phaser.
2) it doesn't take very high inputs without clipping. For me that meant synths... And the clipping wasn't very musical.
3) I swear I hear a big volume drop on mine, but it doesn't show up on any of the videos. Maybe there's a bit of a roll of the dice element to them.
4) There's a tiny trimpot on the circuit board that I think biases all the jfets and it really altered the sound. It's a really sensitive little adjustment though. I have to imagine at 17$ they are just setting a voltage and moving on 🤷♂️😁✌️
very interesting there was a volume drop on it! I was worried about there being a volume drop on the tremolo (more so than expected anyway) but from what i remember it was okay.. I'm intriqued to see if they will last a decent length of time.. definetly a video idea for 2021 hahah! thanks for points! i'm sure they will be useful for potential buyers :)
No volume drop on my Kmise Vintage Phase.
There is likely a VERY sensitive trim pot on the board you can tweak that might help. There is in the Joyo version. Just be careful and patient, it can be really hard to find the sweet spot, so hard in fact that I suspect they are set at the factory by using some kind of freq analysis machine.

@@renatolp8798 I've not opened my Kmise. Only my Joyo. Kmise may not have a trimpot. Normally trimpots are little square things about 5mm wide with a blue plastic phillips head pot flush with the top.
I don't think this one was really close at all. I can see what Kmise were trying to do from a marketing perspective with the colours referencing the MXR, but sound-wise the MXR is just WAAAYYYYY better in my opinion. If you're on a budget and want the phase 90 sound, I'd be looking elsewhere.
Its a bit of an unfair fight haha but i think that can sometimes be useful in comparisons :) sadly i'm not much of a phase user so i only have the MXR and a Behringer clone laying about
I have to disagree. I picked up the Saphue version (same exact pedal) yesterday, and think it's pretty damned good. I think they got it more right than wrong for shizzle.
@@RyanLutton Personally, I think the Kmise Phaser is as equally as good as MXR in sound quality. It all depends on the phase 'stage' you are after and what your ears enjoy the most. I have the Behringer phaser as well but for me the the Kmise is better sonically. The Behringer one is a little heavy 'bass sounding' wise and far more prounounced.The Kmise is more subtle and milder and for reggae rhythm guitar it's especially good. Also, Ithe Kmise has very good 'unity' in level with no drop or increase in volume. The Behringer one is good but I'm sure I hear a slight volume drop. Anyways, keep the vidoes a comin'. Good job. If we all agreed on eveything it would make for a boring time with reviews online....; )
The kmise seems not so intrusive to the original sound. Which I like 👍
The MXR has all the gooeyness. They sound totally different.

kmise should be compared to Script Vintage phase90.....
if only i had one haha.. but I think this is also useful for people who are looking for a cheaper alternative to the standard MXR phaser to see the differences :)

Phase 45, actually, even the Script Phase 90 is a four stage, while this Kmise is a two-stage, just like the Phase 45, which it's a clone of.
The Kmise is a smaller version of the Joyo Vintage Phase. It's a clone of a Phase 45.
So this comparison is a bit apples to oranges.
The Kmise is a two-stage phaser and the MXR is a four-stage. Running into a clean amp, the MXR can be really too much if placed after overdrive, but the Kmise can act like a chorus in the same position. In fact, that's exactly how I use my Joyo Vintage Phase, which is on my gigging board, because I prefer light phasers over choruses. If you have the gain up high on your amp, thus compressing the phaser, you may find the Kmise too subtle and the MXR more appropriate.
The Joyo Vintage Phase is a clone of a script logo phase 90, not a phase 45.
@@jamesprisciandaro3144 You could be right. The Vintage Phase sounds more like a two-stage phaser to me, but it may be a four stager with softer settings. It definitely has less depth and warble than a block 90, and that's the main selling point - warm, subtle, natural, smooth.
Biggest difference is build quality.
Sound is nearly identical.
