How is Norways national team doing so very poorly, with the toppscorers in both La Liga and Premiere league, and the Arsenal captain? They did not sack their manager after a horrible Euro qualifications, who will continue 2 year more.
Combination of several things: Poor defense. Poor manager. And players are played in non-preferred positions. Sørloth in particular.
Several things.
First of all, if the games had ended at 80 minutes, we'd be in a lot more Euros and WCs. But when the best players are tired, the drop off in quality for the subs are massive. Thats why Norway lose matches after 80 mins.
And:
1. No depth. If one of those players are out, there are no substitutes that are even close.
2. Defence. Very often the games start well, but as the game progress, Norway lets in a lot of goals at the end of matches, when defenders are subbed at 80 minutes because they are exhausted, the drop in quality is tremendous. Really, it's a massive drop from top 5 league players, down to local Norwegian club players.
3. Rotation isn't possible, there are no changes to the team the manager can make to adjust to the opponent without making the team worse, there are those players, or it's a drop off in quality, there is only one best starting 11 for all situations.
4. Manager. We of course always have to have a Norwegian, or if we're very controversial, we go for a Swede. I think that's stupid, we need to get proper manager.
I think we'd have a lot to gain from getting an outsider as manager, who doesn't know or care about anything but results.
Top goalscorer in the league. Played less matches than Dovbyk and Lewandowski and yet has more goals and goal points then them. And still they got selected in the team of the year, and not him.
