you're so lucky, here in the states we don't have anything very much older that the 1900's, and everything gets paved or bulldozed for new terrible buildings. Love this!

I sometimes forget just how many of these old castles / manor houses there are in the UK

Very interesting site. I am always amazed at how they made things of stone.

Very interesting. Looking forward to the WW2 pillboxes on the beach, especially to see how they compare with the ones I found last year at Walton on the Naze in Essex.

There were a couple of airfields nearby and Limpert Bay was the only flat bit between the cliffs on that of part of the coast.

I used to drive to st athan and hang out at this ruin as a teen a very long time ago. Heard ghost stories about that place. I really should go back.

Love your explorations of Wales! You're showing us locations (plus history) that I would never have found myself.

Glad you like them! We only really started exploring local areas since the first lockdown. It' amazing what you can find on your doorstep.

Fantastic Marcus! very interesting, yes, there are some problems with some OS routes all over, (blocked? overgrown not cleared( who supposed to clear them anyway?)), never mind, I love your anywhere walks in the "wilderness" keep on doing this stuff, please.

Another wonderful find. I really enjoy watching these videos where you take us to out-of-the-way places. I always imagine how it was in its heyday and what sort of intrigues that might have gone on with the family and the staff.
As an aside, as you often experience a sense of spookiness visiting these long abandoned ruins, I wonder if you would consider taking a clairvoyant to some of these ruins to see if they can connect to any vibrations from the past?

    • @flydriveexplore
      @flydriveexplore  Před 2 lety +1

Yes, I always think of what it was like its day and the people who must have lived and worked there. Although, I love a ghost story and a legend, personally, I'm not a believer in ghosts or clairvoyance and think they are just stories. Saying, that I may be working with some paranormal investigators in the future, can they convince me, a skeptic!

I read somewhere that some of that castle was used to to build fonmon castle. there also use to be a castle called west orchard. which is just a lumpy field now. and not far from there is some sort of fort, I haven't been to it yet but it's on the headland point at the end of limpet bay in the woods.

Thanks for the info, yes it was common to reuse stones for other buildings.

I was going to say it looks like a fortified manor house rather than a
    castle.

This is only down the road from us and would love to visit it! I wander if there's a way to get at it from co-op avoiding the main road 🤔 thanks for the brilliant video :)

I don't know the area that well but I think (according to the OS map) there may be a path across the fields from near the Post Office

I have been having a deep think about your meeting with that security guard, it should have been dealt with in one of 2 ways! as you were on a clearly marked public right of way, yes it is posted as a private road but you were not in your car.
    1. Ask him if he is a member of the public on an outing on this nice PRW, and he just wants to have a friendly natter, with someone else who is on this PRW in the middle of nowhere, and there is nobody around and he feels lonely?
2.Ask him if he IS a security guard just nosing around, wrongly! ( even if told to do so by his "superior") well if he is, then tell him to F*** O**, he has no right asking official questions of a public walker on a PRW, and tell him to tell his boss this as well he should know better.
A bit harsh, yes but fair.

Hi, we have been talking about an eastern US road trip but I doubt we will be flying back to the US until later in the year (Aug/Sept), hopefully, travel restrictions will be eased a bit more. We were thinking of flying to Washington and driving south then inland (Mel wants to go to Dollywood!).
