Well the amazing and very rare Nacreous Clouds certainly saw 2023 out with a bang!I think that they are more beautiful than Noctilucent Clouds and even rarer .

re 1:50 The upcoming dearth of visible planets corresponds with the plethora of beautiful showings we had last year, because the planets were well aligned when we were with them on the other side of the Sun.

Looks like we have a drier week coming. Nothing but rain mostly since June. So i'll be trying for some Sunspots and Jupiter before the Sun hides it.

With Sirius B, I got very lucky seeing at the end of Jan '23 and could definitely see the pup star at high power. I used my 10" dob with excellent collimation, a Delos 14 and 3x TV barlow (~257x magnification). Could just pick it out as a shimmering blob very close to one of Sirius A's diffraction spikes. Even put my my iphone to the eyepiece and filmed it, managed to pick out 3 lucky frames (I am not an imager, just visual). Going to try again this January.

I love the night sky but I have a completely unrelated question. Is dice singular in British English? I know in American English dice are plural and the singular is die. It’s the amateur linguist in me.

can anyone help me? I’m clueless. I just don’t know where to look, when to look or if what I’m looking for I can see. If anyone can just give me help please. I’m sick of looking at the moon. Earlier today I focused in in a bright star in the sky and it was just a white flickering ball of light? Is that a star? Havent got a clue, I have limitation’s. Frustrating wanting to get into something but your brain is to slow to understand everything there is to learn

As the planets are going to be absent from the night sky for the next few months. why not tell us HOW we can see them (with a telescope) in the DAY time. I realise the sun will make it difficult but surely not IMpossible.
