    We will never forget him, he was not just a fantastic soloist but a really kind person, every time i asked anything he always replied with great advises. (RIP 2020) You set a new standard for a lot of pieces.

    I watch the six movements of this on here almost every week. It's so unbelievably excellent; the LSO must be so lucky to have a huge number of insanely talented musicians that they do. This man must be amazing to play beside.

    The lower 2 strings are low sounding, but not low enough to be inaudible. The only reason he doesn't play on those 2 strings very much is all about the placement/sound of the notes he is playing. On the bass, we can play the same note on different strings, but in a piece like this, it's just much more convenient to play on the top 2 strings and doesn't require the bassist to move their hand as much as they would have to move it if they also played the lower notes on the low strings.

    Great interpretation & beautiful tonalisation. And I have never imagined that one can play double bass with so flexible like that @__@

    I am fascinated by this. I've started playing around with the cello recently. I can only imagine how hard this is. By the way, I noticed he rarely uses the two lower strings. Are the in the audible range or just reserved for calling elephants?

    • @tiagomendes8376
      @tiagomendes8376 Před 7 lety +2

      He is playing in the original tone however in Double Bass (the original is for cello), hence why he does (can) not go to the lower strings.

    @jsanchezpcr708 That's supposed to be Barroque-style grip. Not necessary, but interesting to see. If you want to try it, you need to find the balance point of your bow and grab it placing your thumb right there or slightly towards the frog. You only use the two middle quarters of the bow (most of the time), and not too much weight, but rather bow speed. Good luck!

    how does a bass sound like a cello.....

    • @DerekArgueta_phg
      @DerekArgueta_phg Před 10 lety +6

      it doesn't.... just because the bass can play in the same range as a cello doesn't make it sound like a cello. Basses have a much different tone and sound color due to the large body. A cello would sound a lot lighter and airy playing the same thing.

  • @uprightbassmatt
    @uprightbassmatt Před 13 lety

    Only ex - cellist can play like that. I'm sure of that more than anything else :)
