3 years ago this was the video that convinced me to get myself the 1000D. I have a 50D now. The only think I ever found lacking in the 1000D all this time was spot metering and no ISO beyond 1600. For everything else, this is the perfect beginners SLR.
The Battery on this thing just doesnt die!!! ive sat here with continuous shooting taking photos for 20 mins solid, its still on a full battery on a charge from 3 days ago
@@robbyroberts3214 So, do you like the 100d? My son and me both own one with the 18-135mm IS STM. For me its a small and light alternative to my 5d mk3. You not always need full frame. My son likes the Touchscreen and the light body( he is 13). It's his third Canon after the 450d und 550d and he likes it a lot more than the others. I hope, you can enjoy this lovely camera with all it's features and the indeed good picture quality. Greetings from Germany and stay healthy
Lower resolution gives better ISO sensitivity. So you get more clarity and less noise while shooting at high ISO settings. Higher resolution is good for low ISO picture detail which is useful if you're deciding to print posters of your pictures but thats all its useful for. Resolution has little significance when it comes to SLR. The big high resolution pictures just use up more space.
Really good video, thank you so much, I've had this camera for a few years and was too lazy to read the manual. I didn't know I could do half the things you've shown me. :)
@Dylandier It can take video if it's connected to a computer and you have a certain piece of software installed on that computer. You will have to run a microphone on the side though. Not exactly a practical solution, but it can be done. Shoots in HD.
i cannot thank you enough, for the past two weeks, i'm terribly confused between a Nikon D40, D60 and a Canon 1000D. This review has made me to choose a Canon over Nikon!
@hellaflushlove If you but it new it will have a battery, but I always recommend getting a second. All* SLR lenses are manual zoom only, if you meant focus, you can toggle between manual and auto focus on most lenses- including the one included with the camera.
@mmoby1 I know this is like month later but live view only works on certain settings like manual. It doesnt work on premade settings like "no flash automatic".
thanks for the quick tutorial - I especially enjoyed the metering segment - you definitely showed the differences there very well. I have a better understanding for metering now, thank you.
@Suzan2k Probably because you have to high of an aperture setting .. go to tv mode and move the dial to change the setting to 1/1000 that will get a sharp image
I got exactly the same problem, with Err99 poping up everytime I try to shoot a picture. I send my camera back to the manufacturer and got a new one, and once again after 3 weeks this new one got the Err99 problem too. I chosed Canon for the image quality, the 1000D is awesome for the price, you have a huge range of lenses available, the pictures are very sharp even with the 18-55IS kit lens, but once you got the very commun Err99 problem you start having regrets ..
@duffz The only thing that helped me was looking trough the viewfinder instead of using live view . When i used Live View the camera diden`t want to focus . But in the viewfinder it does focus .
@Bauzi514 As far as I know, the 1000D is the top of the pop in low level DSLRs at the moment. I have one myself, my first DSLR, and I'm really enjoying it.
I got this for my birthday last month and I'm loving it! I take mostly live band photography and snowboarding photography... What bits would you recommend..? I was looking at the 50mm 1.8 because it was cheap and I could get a better shutter speed from it... Both the bands and the boarders tend to come out blurry from the kit lens... Better to buy the lens or a cheap flashgun? Cheers!
@MyoujouAdauchi no i didn't, but i think if you buy the rebel xs you will get a lens with image stabilization? I don't know but I think it'll come with a stabilizer kit. just guessing... ;D
Great review. If I understand correctly, in manual mode , the wheel is dedicated for the shutter speed by default, but if you press 'ISO' or 'av' buttons you use the wheel to set sensitivity and aperture? What's the lens like? I've read it;s really difficult to manually focus? What's the viewfinder like, considering MF? Is it possible? Can it record video? I don't see movie mode on the ring?
The 1000d has more features and was introduced to market from a different aproach,The d40 may note have live view,7point autofocus. but the Image quallity is way better/The ISO sensibillity is also more performant on the d40
@13mrkasper when you say much better is it like significant to a beginner like me? I dunno which one to get... im still stuck between the canon 1000d or nikon d3000... my friends say i should take the one which "feels" better to me... but quality is also a big thing... which camera do you own? do you reckon the 11-point AF on the nikon makes it significantly better?
maureen Ohcoiuq Yes it is good looking at the features available on cameras before 10 years,, but nowadays you can find a really good new cameras with more features and less price.
@Vanquiza I have to be really honest with you, since my last post I haven't been reading about camera's these days.. and specially about videocamera's I wouldn't dare advice. you have to know what you want from the camera and then find the right camera for your needs.. don't stare yourself blind on the little gadgets
very useful video i wish it was longer little bit to show everything the camera can do. can you please cover: 1. Camera RAW 2. Blend mode 3. HDR 4. Metering
Would this camera do a good job today 10 years later since the release taking pictures of landscapes as I'm going to be traveling around a lot? I've got the opportunity to by an unused Canon 1000D for £65...
thanks ive learned from this vid new stuffs...i just got canon eos 1000d last sunday and im still learning...tnx again..hopng to see mre vid and learn..
Well, i swapped my first camera for a new one, which I did for free (under warranty), i'm gonna bring back my 2nd new camera to the store I bought it from, and I hope they'll swap this one too .. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 450D which seems to have less problem like those. The 40D is famous too for the Err99 problem ..
@DstrctedVgrant no need for begging, I totally understand what you mean. i just find that having such extra's is usually more limited then what the full product would do. but that might all change later^^
@Reallush Can you recommend a good video camera? i have been searching for sometime now, looking at sites n stuff looking for camera's and the watching some tests on youtube to see how they are. I need one for 800$ at the most. It would mean a great deak to me if you could help me out. I usually focus alot on the coloring of the videos, and i've been inpired by some of sony's stuff
Is this a good starter camera? Is it good at snapping things in motion? Is there anywhere I can see samples other than the 4 pictures on the canon sight. Thanks everyone.
The Autofocus refuses to work on mine , the square never goes green , and the picture gets very blurry unless you press the * button on the righ top corner . Is the Autofocus on the lens or in the camera ? I hope it `s on the lens , since then i just need to replace the lens . Or i have to send it in for repair since it refuses to focus when press the shutter button down halfway like all other cameras i have had .
