    I wish I could skate with friends but 99% of my skate friends are virtual. That new progression park at Woodward PA looks amazing 😮

      I know that feeling!

      When I grow up I was alone because I grow up on the country side and skateboarding was unknown to the most people. I know that feeling. There was no internet at that time. This changed a few years back when I started to streetboard/snakeboard. And when I got back to skateboarding I met some guys at the park and now we shred together often, but I also go out alone a lot.
      Just go out and send it. You will meet more and more people over time. And you don't need them to progress nowadays. The amount of information and divverent perspectives are awesome because of the internet.

    I can’t believe you weren’t wearing knee pads, it hurt just watching. I mostly only wear them on mini ramps if I’m trying anything beyond just pumping/kick turns. Usually don’t need them, but the comfort and peace of mind lets me try stuff outside of my range

      I so rarely hurt my knees skating flatground and a little park. I never even considered that I'd be skating a mini ramp 😅 won't make that mistake twice though!

    Woodward looks amazing. I didn't know that there were adult sessions there. I thought it was a kids camp. I wish there were more skate parks around that have smaller obstacles for learning. I feel overwhelmed at the skate parks because everything seems way too big/high/steep for me. Looks like you had a great time despite getting slammed.

      @SarahParkMatott  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Same! I didn't know that either. I also found out that they had a girls/women's weekend camp too. For around 199 I think it was for the weekend and instruction/accommodations. If I wasn't already planned to go with my friends, that was tempting! haha But 100% large parks make it so hard to get over the initial obstacles. Wishing you luck with your progress this spring 😃

    Yo you’re progressing really well. The thing that has helped me most on banks/pyramids etc is to be down and ready to Ollie as you hit the bank itself. That way you save energy and are ready to spring up with your pop, instead of having to go from upright, to crouching, then into the Ollie. It will save you a lot of movement on the bank and let you be a bit more stable.

    Those days when your hanging out with friends are when you learn the most I find your much more willing to take slams and go for stuff your scared of when you have someone who's encouraging you.

    Sometimes, I just want to be alone with my board, and sometimes, it's cool to chill with your buddies, where you can share tricks, show off new stuff to each other, or just chat chit. I feel ya there. Glad you got to do it 🥳

    We have a freak warm dry spell hitting this weekend and the skatepark was popping tonight like you usually only see on warm summer nights. I'm still usually the worst person there but it's still great to around a buncha people enjoying the same thing. And watching the shredders is inspiring too.

    falling is an art and aging lets the moments you were too proud to take it easy speak louder. wouldn't trade the spills away, the trills are really the most honest kind of joy, just gotta stretch more and remember to kit up with pads, gloves, and helmets.

    Thanks for covering this! I was trying to hit up Woodward east for a women’s weekend last month but didn’t end up being able to go, so it’s still on my list to try this year. I’m really excited to skate their transition as I’m learning so it was great to see your clips of what’s in the park; the website only shows so much perspective! Hope you’re recovering well! Pads have been my best friend and I can totally relate to feeling whipped after a day of riding… painful… but so worth it for the fun and progression and memories. But the pads help me sustain the good parts and lessen the bad.

      that's awesome! If I wasn't going on this trip, I was considering going to the womens weekend camp. It looked fun 😃 Stoked I could share a little inside view of the park. If you're interested in transition, this is the place. There is tiny up to massive transition there. The indoor stuff was very transition heavy. Hope you get to check out a camp or weekend sometime!

    I was going to go to one of these open days, and I still may, but I also just got hired there for a seasonal job starting in June. I went as a camper as a kid and wasn't really personally primed for learning and progressing, but it was a good social experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what's changed in the past 16 years or so.

    I'm in Baltimore, so Woodward is definitely on my list to visit. Still, I wish there were more places like Woodward, or at least just the progression center, so beneficial for people learning.

      💯 I wish more parks had even small dedicated sections to beginners. I feel like the east coast has a bit of a beginner friendly skate park desert 😭 It's a bit of a trip, but DC has some awesome street spots that are surprisingly beginner friendly like Freedom Plaza and Malcom X fountains. I regret not going more often while I lived down there

    Don't let the shy inner Sara control your movement all the time. Find your inner angry Sara for speed and trick enforcement and let her pump in some adrenaline. 😀😉 And a fall tip for wood and smooth concrete: Slide away. Transform the vertical fall momentum into horizontal momentum. Even easier if you stay low so you can kick yourself away.
