I love the way the creators always use a song that sounds like this calm, soothing tune whenever you approach 'her' chambers.

Wrong portal stories mel happened
PS:Mel isn't canon. It's a fan game.
@@haven1vh that's your opinion
Yeah i know it's not actually canon but if you look at the actual story of the game there's nothing that really breaks the narrative in portal 2, maybe bends it a little, but not breaks it
I love how the harp continues throughout the whole piece, often completely overshadowed by the other parts but still always present.
hmm, idk what if the harp is caroline and all the sci-fi sounds is the robot part of glados
I imagine the harp represents the serine quiet surrounding the chamber, and the oyher parts are human curiosty and terror. The peace is still there, just overshadowed by what the mind imagines
This soundtrack is reminding me of what a deep story Portal actually is. It is an artistic masterpiece among videogames.
It's a Valve game. What did you expect?
The Vision I had never played a Valve game before, so I actually wasn't sure.
Casey5693 What you need to know is that Valve are like the Jesus or God of gaming.
The Vision I don't know if I'd compare them to God but they are God's gift to humanity I'd say. I have never seen a videogame as well-written as "Portal" before. Valve seems to have a knack for it. I also respect them for how well they treat their fans.
Casey5693 Agreed.
"There she is...nasty piece of work, she was."
Y'know who ended up purging, taking her down in the end?
You're not going to believe this.
A human.
Yeah! I wouldn't have believed it either.
Apparently this human escaped and nobody's seen him since.
A bit of a long chunk of time where _absolutely nothing happened_
And there's us escaping now, so that's pretty much the whole story, you're up to speed.

I love how GLaDOS has her own Leitmotif. The vocal part you can hear throughout the song (starts at 1:04) is the motif, and it's used when she captures you, the ending scene with her. Crazy how 4 notes can cause so much stress for a player!
how interesting that GLaDOS's leitmotif is human vocals... hmmm... i wonder if that's foreshadowing ;)

This song sums up “dead” GLaDOS ridiculously well.
“She’s still hella dangerous, and considering just errantly flicking every switch in existence down there brought her back, she’s probably _listening to us right now._ “
"There she is..."
"What a nasty piece of work she was, honestly. Like a proper maniac."
"You know who ended up, do you know who ended up taking her down in the end? You're not going to believe this. A human."
Come to think of it, those also sound like lines that could be said in The Owl House, Steven Universe, The Wizard of Oz, or better yet, a scene in a Star Trek episode where people at a history museum in the 3000s learn that one of the Starfleet captains (Picard or Janeway) was responsible for defeating the Borg queen.

I think if I play through that scene again I may legitimately break down in tears if I stay at that part for too long
Who else feels like they're walking next to a sleeping tiger in that part?
When I first played it, I felt like she was going to wake up at any moment
That's a nice metaphor
A tiger is nothing compared to GLaDOS.
The Vision ACCEPTABLE opinion
Catherine Armour Well, if it had simply been a tiger, it would all have been MUCH easier.
I just realized how amazing this artwork is. It uses exaggeration so well to make you terrified of that big thing far beyond your scope.. it shows GlaDOS at a size far larger than her physical form, but far smaller than her actual form.
I think valve might be the only company in the world that can put talking potatoes, mantis men,and lying cake in there game and still have it be incredibly creepy at times
I feel like mantis men as a concept is inherently creepy

After the much slower music beforehand, the slightly faster beat of this piece urges you to go in, even though "if she is awake, she'll most definitely kill [you]"
The perfect music for traveling back in time, and melting off half of your past self's body
Why just half?
The Vision It a reference to another video.
Vriska Serket Oh.
Vriska Serket And I was sure it was a reference to the coming updates, heh.
Vriska Serket Then burying it with your friend who found out about your crime.
its strange how, in the artwork, she is drawn much larger, a complete behemoth of technology and sinister design. The Guardian of a forgotten facility. The single "all seeing" eye gazing down and even the entire body seems to be coming from one side almost threateningly. As if saying "where do you think you are going?" I would love to see (maybe an alternate timeline game where glados beefs herself up. or that after the previous encounters with chell she decided to make a proprietary connection so that wheatly couldn't get attached and that the body is more resistant to explosions.) A new portal game where glados is already more terrifying and imposing would make it all more rewarding once you beat her and escape the facility.
right
The fact that this song is basically GLaDOS' theme is so perfect, it goes from gentle but eerie to completely insane, just like her character did.
when i listen to this song i (idk why) imagine that GLaDOS is a goddess, well in Portal she is almost like a goddess, she sees everything, she hears (or hear idk =P) everything, she knows everything and she is everywhere ._.
She is! She is a vengeful goddess!
It its hears, you're right.
The turrets most likely see her as one since they follow her commands no matter how evil or sinister those plans are, the turrets se e her as their ruler and they take the commands of their goddess GLaDOS.

Shows mysticalness with the portal sound effect, shows a booming storyline, and an amazing piece of art.
How to make a badass theme
1-) Harp, (maybe just add a little harp bit in the song) why? because listen to how awesome they are.
2-) Choir, Add this in a little later in the song and all you're gonna be saying is "Wow! ;)"
3-) Bass, Just once every 5 notes or somethin'
4-) Piano, Just find the right type and you'll be laughing
5-) Reverb, Just add the right amount and then you'll be laughing (I used the same phrase twice, sue me.)
6-) Echo, No questions.
I hope you take this advice and -fail miserably- make an epic song :)

yeah, gotta be in my top 5 for videogame OSTs
I think the harp is an instrumental representation of the worn down overgrowth in aperture,
and right before the wheatley fight, you hear the track "omg, what has he done"
you hear a harp once again. i believe it's meant to represent that wheatley has managed everything so poorly that it has reached the state it once was before, falling apart, and barely functional.
This is the song that plays in my head when i think about the fact that everyone outside is dead.

The password was 6 characters. Not 7.
FinallyLovingLife glados?
dat6 now we're just getting silly
I don’t know why but, whenever she ISNT trying to kill you I feel as though GladOS has very motherly instincts
So that’s why people call her “mommy”?
Her whole personality is based on a woman that Cave Johnson loved, Caroline. The murdering, torturing side however, is totally new, and something the scientists at aperture struggled to erase, to no avail.
that's why people started to headcanon Caroline being Chell's mom
So eerie... even when you know Glados stays dead as long you do nothing to awaken her, you still get the impression that somehow her "corpse" awakens by itself anytime
This gives me chills every time.
Everything about Portal was amazing, we need more things like it
Why does this give me chills
When I was younger I could play horror games and games with zombies and such in them and they didn’t bother me. But, portal was a bit too terrifying for me to play back then. And the point where you meet glados was probably the creepiest thing I ever witnessed in a videogame back then, and still is

This is still, without a doubt, one of the best songs on this entire soundtrack. I’m listening to this over a decade since when I played this game last… and I can still remember the feeling… the electric chill down my spine as I stepped through the creaky broken hallway and the eerie tune this is playing….
I am feeling that SAME chill.
GLaDOS still haunts me…

This is so good for the setting Chell is in at this part of the game. If I were looking at my enemies' dead body for the first time even though I killed it a long time ago, this would be running through my head too.
Idk why but this made me cry.. music is a gift of the gods for real..
I used to imagine this track playing in my head while waking up at 4 in the morning as a kid
What a fantastic theme. Even though GLaDOS has been long dead, you can still feel hatred and anger stewing in the melody. Even in the first part. This feels like Kelly Bailey wrote this, and I don’t say that lightly.
Not many people realize that GLaDOS was more “Human” in portal 2 than 1, in 1 she sounds completely AI, no tone whatsoever. In Portal 2 you can hear a lot of tone especially when she awakens in portal 2.
Well, she gets that voice in Portal 1 after destroying the morality core.
it happened once the morality core was burnt

this is the same as even higher than undertale soundtrack. Undertale is like making you showing various emotions. sad/happy for an example.
