    Hi Geo I had a very good honest expierance ... I was getting ready to leave Hypermart and while sitting on my bike I was digging in my pocket to pay the parking attendant so I guess what happened was in the process by accident I pulled up my billfold and when I turned on the main street it fell out of my pocket and on my way home I often tap my pocket to make sure my money is still there and when I checked this time it was gone so I doubled backed to see if I could be lucky enough to find it on the side of the road but that didnt happen so when I got home I put the groceries away and went on FB and saw a private message from my sister in law saying a 20 something year old Filapino man said he found your bill fold on the street and drove 30 minutes out of his way to return it I had my old ACR card showing where I use to live ... I had about $250 all my I.Ds ... I was able to meet up with him a few days later so I can give him a tip for being so honest

    When I was stationed at Clark AB, I lived off base for 6 months. I personally watched a Filipino get on top of a wall just like the one you showed, including the glass. He had absolutely no problem getting over that wall.
    Also I one break into my on base house and rob me, while we were not home. It happened a lot all over base housing.

The people I've asked are between 40 ' 50'. Best topic I've heard in a while. Never had any issues. There were plenty of opportunities to for people to take my motorcycle-helmet, I’ve left my motorcycle topbox unlocked, I’ve left my phone and action-camera still on motorbike while in stores, a couple times I forgot the key in ignition, I left cash out in front of people, I’ve lived in the poor and rich places and everything inbetween, and somehow never had one issue of any theft though there were plenty of opportunities. I got scammed on fb marketplace once for $20 and the item never shipped. No big deal. It’s one of my favorite aspects of the Philippines that I think it’s the safest place. Maybe I got lucky, but in think there is just more good than evil there.
    In comparison…If I was in America and I left my motorcycle helmet out on my motorcycle, it would be stolen within a few hours easily, if not the entire motorcycle within a few days. I’m speaking from experience.

    I just came back from BGC 3 weeks a go and I head lunch with my wife inside the food court at Landers wich is the Filippino costco, well I lost my wallet and once I left I did not realize until the next day, so did go back to the restaurant and ask security if they find my wallet, guess what, they did and the wallet was turned in by a costumer and give it to one of the restaurant employee, I have all my credit card and 1200 Dollars, anywhere else in the world I would not have find it but I got it back to my relief, so I gave 200 dollars to the employee that turn it in, remember this people will probably make 15 dollars for all day of work, Honesty like I never see, Love Filippino people

Also had many things stolen from inside my cars over the years in both Vancouver and Victoria, Canada. I have never lived in the Philippines yet, but here in Japan, I’ve never had anything stolen in over 12 years! I don’t even lock my bicycle and often don’t bother locking the front door of my house! I live in Jomtien, Thailand. Been to Thailand 3 X since April 2023, lived in Hua Hin and Jomtien since September. Ppl accidentally leave their keys in their motorbikes here. They leave their helmets on their bikes when they go in stores or barber shops. Bar girls walk home 3, 3:30 a.m. & Thai men don't harass, rob or approach them..
    Vendors walk away from their stalls on rest room breaks and no one bothers their stand. I walk to ATMs all hours. I've only spent December 30th to January 4th in The Philippines. Angeles. My hotel shuttle driver told me not to walk into town at night

      I have spent many months in Thailand and many weeks in The Philippines. So talking from experience I'd say Thailand's ten fold more honest than The Philippines. I've had about $1100 taken from my hotel room in Cebu city by reception staff and $100 taken by a Manila bar girl. Last Dec '22 a Thai bargirl flabbergasted me by taking $800 from my wallet whilst I showered. This is the only time anything bad has occurred in Thailand regarding trust. In my experience I've found filipinas to be compulsive liars, not all of them, but unfortunately 70% of them have been. I guess that's what you're going to get in Angelese city, Osmena Fuente in Cebu or Ermita in Manila.

    I think your experience and intuition reflects the stats. There are more burglaries but less robberies and violent crime. I actually looked up the ratio of cops to citizens. I had assumed the US had lots more cops because they’re expensive, but it’s a very similar ratio. I looked it up because there seems to be a way lower chance if getting speeding tickets and DUIs in the Phil’s, but I think the cities are loaded with cops and there are relatively few highway cops and rural cops. That’s just a guess from a curious observer.

    I've only lived here 4 months but I have not been a victim.of any crime. I checked statistics and the crime rate in the Philippines is slightly lower than the US or Australia. Every mall and bank has armed guards. I wonder if that's because crime is a big problem or if crime is not a big problem because they have good security. I don't hang out in sleazy bars or wander back alleys in the middle of the night. I dont walk around with a milkion pesos in cash in a clear plastic backpack. Etc. The same sort of intelligent precautions I took in the US. Once my wife warned me that having my backpack slung over my shoulder, someone could grab it and run. I told her that all I had in it at the moment was a pen and a roll of toilet paper, and if they need toilet paper so bad that they'll steal it, they're welcome to it.

    Theft is part of the culture. Twice they took plants from he front of my house. I’ve had kids jump the fence and take anything they could find. If you leave anything out of your site for 5 minutes, you’ll never see it again. My wife’s sister has taken money out of my wallet while visiting our place. On and on and on. The worst place in my opinion in the world. Cannot trust anything with anyone. Theft is ingrained in their culture. The maid that we had cleaning the house took many things. You can’t do much to guard against it. They look at foreigners as people who can afford to lose things. I hate thieves so much!

    They can take the entire lockbox but a girlfriend who just takes out some money from the wallet couldn’t do anything with a lockbox. So it’s a perfect solution, I do the same thing.
    In terms of continuing the relationship, I don’t see a problem with it if the intentions are not serious. If you wanna settle, definitely it’s over. But sometimes I feel guilty dating someone and knowing I’ll come back and her life will go back to the same. At least a girl, I can’t trust, I wouldn’t feel bad for just mutually using each other and she might have a great personality otherwise. I mean funny, talkative, great in bed etc. So that’s my point of view.

    • @stevemorris3544

    • @manchesterr85
      @manchesterr85 Před 6 měsíci

      @@stevemorris3544 the problem is that trust is a very broad term. People lose trust after 20 years of marriage. You can’t trust anyone these days. They might not steal because they are afraid of getting caught or they are smart enough not to risk a relationship over a couple of pesos. You never know someone’s real intentions even if you think you do.

    Gio has lived a very sheltered life! I know two people who were murdered in Bohol one was a foreigner from Austria he was shot execution style - back of head. I went to his funeral. Another was a Filipino he was shot and murdered from two people on a motorcycle. You can hire a hitman in the Philippines for $100. So no the Philippines is not that safe. $100 no problem for a hitman. Oh and by the way the police did not catch the murderers and they didn't care. the wife of the man from Austria had to put up a reward to try to find a killer because the police did nothing. One criminal can commit 100 crimes and not get caught in the Philippines.
