    😂自分の心がきよめられます。そして、Mr Blomshtedt が導き出す音楽は、心を穏やかにしてくれています。あの柔らかな笑みを浮かべながらの指揮の時は唯々至福を感じます。

Maestro Blomstedt clearly enjoys leading this symphony. Performing music can be A LOT of fun, in my experience.

As a swede I am proud that my fellow swede maestro Blomstedt at the age of 90 still can be so electrifying as a conductor. Yes, I have this information from Dodecatone. This was recorded 2017 and mr Blomstedt was born 1927. This is a wonderful uptaking, one of the best, perhaps the best? An another information I have is that he recently has conducted in California, now sitting on a chair. What a wonderful life with music.

It is one of the best accounts in my view as well. The only one that approaches it for me is Kleiber's (Erich Kleiber, not Carlos Kleiber!) who trades in some clarity for raw passion. Blomstedt just released a fabulous disc of Schubert this past year, so he shows no signs of slowing down. Truly grateful for the life (both in longevity and in vitality) that he's brought to the musical scene.

@@Dodecatone I have listened a bit to this Erich Kleiber in Beethoven 5:th, good, but it is only on LP, and without supporting moving image I soon felt this is not for me, I stay with the newer on this musical field, like Blomstedt.

Completely amazing level of energy and sustained drive - even if he hadn't been ninety at the time it would have been an astonishing take. The orchestra, of course, is superb too: very colourful and rich, vibrant sound, with thunderous timpani and waves of strings. I saw the finale from this performance several times on Mezzo, this amazing tv network, and couldn't get enough of it. Have been looking for it on CZcams since: I'm elated to be able to watch the full performance of the entire work!

Oh yes, especially the finale here is astonishing. You can tell the orchestra are on a collective kick, the levels of sustained forward energy and tonal colouring are insane! 💗

I'm so envious of you - this is arguably the best performance of the 5th I have ever seen (not sure if I've ever heard a greater one on record). The energy, drive and cohesion are just astonishing - you can easily tell that they are on a shared "collective kick" - but they don't lose focus for a single moment.

Herbert at what age? Is this about 2005-2010? Dodecatone gives, sorry to say, not much information about this. Anyhow, a gorgeous interpretation it is. Thank you Maestro for your lifelong dedication to music.

This was recorded in 2017, as part of his Beethoven symphony cycle with the same orchestra, released on the Accentus label. That means Blomstedt was about 90 years old at the time - and still bringing new passion and clarity to Beethoven! In fact, this live performance is the one they ended up releasing on disc; it couldn't be bettered in the studio.

@@Dodecatone Thank you, Dodecatone! I was wrong in my guessing about Herberts age. It is amazing how maestro Blomstedt still has this vigour at the age about 90. And still these days conducting, as I have heard. But now sitting on chair.

    • @louise_rose

The level of sustained energy, power and forward drive in this performance is AMAZING - especially in the finale! I've seen the finale a couple of times on Mezzo - they ran it as part of their "in between regular programmes pool" for more than a year - and the fire and drive of it struck me at once. I was thinking again and again "now THIS is the final climax, right?" - but it just rolled into another stretch towards yet another high, 😄 It just blows you away - would be awesome even if he were not ninety years old! No other performance of the finale of the Fifth that I've heard quite matches this one.

I invite you to open your heart to the possibility that great music can still be performed today. Karajan was undeniably great, but so is Blomstedt, and their performances of Beethoven symphonies share the excitement and warmth that come from a lifetime of truly knowing and loving his music.
