Conisbrough Viaduct & Cadeby Tunnel
Join me as i take a detailed look at this huge disused Railway Viaduct in South Yorkshire.
Built as recently as 1909 and closed 5 decades later we have a look from above and below before moving onto the neighboring Cadeby Tunnel also in Conisbrough.

Fantastic lighting in the tunnel, you are correct with the Mexborough wragger, a young gypsy girl who was killed in the tunnel at that exact point t where the doll is. In fact there has been a number of deaths in the tunnel.
I used to live at nearby Edlington, on a weekend we would walk through the Air tunnel that goes from Edlington to the start of the viaduct, spending time in the Woods exploring the Banana Cave, lighting a fire and practising with the catapult. A right if passage for any young lad was to walk the length of the Viaduct wall, don't advise it on a windy day. When the lines came up a group of Lads threw dozens of wooden sleepers into the river completely blocking the locks at Sprotbrough!
I live In Conisbrough and this video was great! Although the people that live here can be a little rough around the edges the history and sights are wonderful, it'd be nice to see you give the castle a similar treatment
That bridge led all the way down to a part of the river where there were boats, a mill and sickle works and also where you could board the Conisbrough ferryboat crossing
I walk this route nearly every day, your cinematography is amazing, thank you, our bridge has never looked better
How to make half an hour seem like no time at all! So interesting, great music, drone work and research with lovely old pictures. Thank you Ant, a total pleasure to watch.
Thank you so much. This is also one of my favourites 🙂
The big circle shot with the drone was scary at the time but worth it
Just like to add thank you for the old pictures of when it was first being built. Awesome
Amazing - but I say that about all your vids. The drone footage is breathtaking. Looking at those recesses in the tunnel and seeing how they were almost fashioned to look asthetic goes to show how much work and artifice went into the simplest of engineering works - even for the inside of a tunnel which no one is ever supposed to see as the trains go steaming by.
Your filming is second to none. The drone footage of that amazing bridge is outstanding. I’m surprised a T.V. Company or film crew hasn’t snapped you up. Thank you. Well done . Tunnel and bricks brilliant. Bit creepy. The lighting in the tunnel just added to the atmosphere.
The inclined bridge once carried a rope work railway, to & from a brickworks. BTW, the two photgraphs of Cadeby Tunnel when still in use were taken by me. I dont mind them being used, though a credit would be nice. A great video!
Thanks John. I do try to credit on screen when possible. Occasionally information of photographer doesn't seem to present itself. Thank you for watching it's a lovely little area
Breathtaking drone footage second to non I live in Conisbrough and the history is awesome. Amazing filmography and the music finishes it of great choice of music
Another brilliant video, Ant, fantastic drone footage, thank you for all your hard work ( and miles walked) to bring us all these videos to enjoy during 2020.,xx
Magnificent structure made when we were at our best.
You certainly do your homework on these walks. brilliantly presented. thank you
Thanks so much. I love it here and I'm pleased I can share it ❤️
Very good cinematography - lighting, editing, choice of shots - and I love your choice of music.
What a great tour! Thank You. In a Facebook comment, one your neighbors took a picture of himself in one of the nearby fields with the Viaduct behind. Reminding me of some of the old Roman structures in Europe, I asked about the Conisbrough Viaduct. He gave a two sentance discription. And advice to Google and check out your CZcams video.
What a beautiful construction for so short a period of operation, wow!
Yet another good little film thank you.
Thank you Matthew 😃
Thanks for the video and chat. Always a great adventure with you. Cheers Ant!
Yet another superb video. Needless to say, I particularly enjoyed the tunnel! Thanks, Ant.
Huge thanks - made my day this video! Cheers Ant.
Enjoyed this...one of your best!

I just love these videos, they are so interesting and the drone footage is great.
Beautiful video and music Ant, Keep up the great work & happy new year.
Yet another fantastic video, Ant. It’s starting to snow here so going to light the log burner and watch a few of your older vids too. Perfect!!
Such a great vid ant. Conisborough viaduct and cadeby tunnel looked so beautiful and peaceful
All that immense work to build it and less than 50 years of railway use.
Hello Anthony.
Just want to wish yourself and your family and Very Happy New Year 2021.
Thanks for taking us all on some amazing trips in 2020 your videos are brilliant and really informative too.
Can't wait to see more uploads next year on CZcams.

All the best from. Mike Wood. (From Chesterfield)
Another great explore loved the viaduct beautiful lighting ....also the spooky doll lol and the steep incline really just a footpath amazing Ant thanks for sharing mate ...Keep up the great work ..cya next year Frank & Lee....
great informative and interesting presentation as all your productions are.who needs sky and freeview when we can watch these
That was another fantastic video thanks Ant. What a huge via duct that was and such beautiful views. Of course the bridge was phenomenal that beautiful stonework. Thought when you were climbing you might have had to quickly turn camera around. Thanks so much for taking me along and please stay safe and take care
A brilliant video. Reminds me of my youth in and around this area.
Great video! I visited Conisbrough castle before I left the UK and seeing this bridge from the top made it even more breathtaking - definitely worth the trip!
Thank you for watching and commenting too 😀 I'll have to give the castle a fly around 😃
A brilliant half hours viewing, a real treat. Loved the mystery bridge at the end and the fact that Cadeby Tunnel is so accessible, when all this Covid crap is over with I'm definitely off there!!! A great explore, well done!!!
The little bridge was a little bonus. It was Great actually finding out what it was all about. Definitely reasons to return there soon. 😃
I find all your videos good and informative, with fantastic cinematography, but this one is my personal favourite, simply superb, thank you.
Thanks so much Dave. Glad you enjoyed it 😀
A really well shot and interesting video. look forward to your future endeavours. Great fun. All the best. Glynn
Lovely little Boxing Day film before settling down to the Football, top stuff Ant.
You make brilliant videos so interesting.
great video ant and fantastic drone footage
Stunning....
If I don't see you before happy new year and all the very best Ant for 2021
Cheers buddy and you
The Conisbrough viaduct was a stupendous and magnificent undertaking. Like the Roman built Pont du Gard aqueduct near Avignon, France.
That was amazing and so well edited, makes me wanna get out there too
Thankyou so much for this kind comment i'm pleased you enjoyed it :)
Really enjoyed that
Amazing drone footage thank you from New Zealand very interesting
Impressive viaduct, owned and maintained by the same company who have now acquired Bennerly viaduct.
Looked like there was some weird witchcraft type items in the tunnel?
Great video guys
The amazing thing about the viaduct is it is built using blue engineering bricks. These are heavier and harder than normal bricks and gave to be fired at a higher temperature. They also cost more as a result.
Once again a amazing video of a amazing piece of engineering..would love to visit
Thanks mate ☺️ I love it here 👍
@@TrekkingExploration fair drive for me could get train from
Peterbrough tickets pretty cheap to worth a look when get some
Time off
Very good video I really enjoyed this
The inclined bridge that is still there was over the Dearne Valley Railway and the one below it which only the abutments remain was over the LNER Denaby Branch line that went through the tunnel, you can see his by visiting "Old Maps Online"
At the bottom of the steep incline is where the old colliery sidings used to be so i'm thinking it may have been something to do with Cadeby Colliery and the loading sidings.
The colliery used to cover a huge expanse of that hillside and valley bottom, although something tells me it was part of a path way down from the village of Cadeby to the colliery.
Conisbrough Viaduct and Cadeby Tunnel looked brilliant indeed, also like the part when you was pretending to be on your phone ordering 15 million bricks.... I bet the person on the other side of the phone was bricking it when you said 15 millions bricks LOL! Great Video!
Spectacular
Thank you 😀
That was a good trip.
Ant thank you I live in mexborough 5 minute drive I will have to go there some time 👍
What a wonderful video! Xx
Thanks so much, wait until you're flying yours around something like this 😀
@@TrekkingExploration cannot wait!
Great video really well filmed and as usual your commentary is excellent. The viaduct is an awesome sight and how wonderful that the iron section wasn't removed by British rail. I'm intrigued by those markings on the tunnel floor, clearly it's been surveyed but for what purpose? Looking forward to more great stuff from you this year!!
I think the good weather definitely contributed to this video - the shadows of the viaduct were amazing. I know you like your mornings but I hope you didn't have to get up too early to film this!
Great video Ant. It’s a shame we don’t put as much effort into the aesthetics of our bridges nowadays, that is one beautiful viaduct.
Fantastic video as always. I was wondering if it was possible to fly drones through the tunnels? That would be some fun footage from an engineers point of view.
I have a friend that did try this on one of the Monsall Tunnels at night. It worked but had to be done slowly
Great vid. Ant. It's possible the incline was for a rope hauled tramway serving a quarry above the railway line. There was once a glassworks beside the river.
Another great viaduct drone fly by. Cadeby tunnel - is it me or did it look better in black and white days?!!! That incline/gradient looks to be more suited to rack and pinion!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting video buddy 👍
Not far from me...i often walk over the viaduct but never been through the tunnel...i shall have to check it out.
An amazing video. Get in touch. I will help fill you in on some of the missing bits. 11:32 - it was totally blockaded with a steel plate wall similar to canal pile. The iron section has a lower catwalk. That is not possible to get to it now as SUSTRANS made safe by pouring concrete on the deck. There used to be two small trap doors to get down. Often ppl would do charity abseils. 😁
As a recent subscriber I would just like to say fantastic video and keep em coming. Out of curiosity is the music you use available for download anywhere?
Nice video. 🙂
Just to say, at 3:49 , pretty sure that's not the A30. Roads starting with the number three are in the South/South West of England. Most roads in that part of the North start with a six.
Hi Ant, gonna have a these tomorrow. Where did you park? Great vids btw
On Milner Gate. Once parked follow it towards the Viaduct and a footpath appears that you then follow 😀
Hello! Very nice video. Just wondering what the drone you use is? it is very good.
Thank you. It's the DJI Mavic Air 2 😄
That light you were using in the tunnel was quite a piece of kit. Is that what Martin was calling the "death ray"?
Yes that's the one. It's absolutely amazing 😀
Great video Ant. May I ask what you use to get your google earth images into your footage ?

@@mickrowe1600 No I already use that site, it's the way of displaying without just doing a print screen which would show the menu bar too
Mate, you'd get a mountsin of views if you covered the ost railways of central norfolk.. From kings lynn to Thetford and up to the coast in a big triangle... As far as i know, NOBODY on youtube has followed any of these central Norfolk lines.... They are forgotten... And as a norfolk boy it bothers me!...
Us Brits know how to build stuff that lasts
