- The Canal Volunteers - A Day In The Life On The Historic Chesterfield Canal
In this video i take up the invitation of spending a day with the Chesterfield Canal Trust Volunteers.
Join me on a Narrowboat Cruise as i get to see the little jobs undertaken in order to keep this historic canal clear and safe for wildlife, boaters and towpath users too!
Its an extraordinary oppertunity to see behind the scenes.
The Chesterfiled Canal Trust work activly in partnership with the Canal & River Trust.
The Eastern end of The Chesterfield Canal is owned and operated by Canal and River Trust but the volunteers on Python work in partnership with them to maintain their canal

Keeping canals open is a never ending task. Thank you and the volunteers for showing us how it's done on the beautiful Chesterfield Canal.
Thanks very much for watching Malcolm
What a great job these unsung heroes do👍 Thanks for the journey Ant and for highlighting this vital work. Looks like a great day out, keeping your mind alive, getting out in nature and having a bit of banter.
It was a lovely day and something different. I got a nice tan too. Back to railway tracks next week 😉
That was a wonderful journey to take us on. Thank you. Big thanks to the volunteers for their hard work.
Thanks very much for watching Jill
A pleasant change from your usual excellent videos. Thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work in keeping our heritage so we can all enjoy it.
Thanks very much Sarah. Back to the railways next
Great video , old track beds or canals will never be wrong in my book. Well done to all the volunteers for their work
Thanks very much for watching Butch
Great video as usual, many thanks for producing and posting it and many thanks to all the volunteers for all their hard work so everyone can enjoy the canals
Thanks very much for watching Roger 🙂
For more than 25 years we spend our holidays on a hire boat in the wonderful canals in the UK. We love the tranquillity of the surroundings and sometimes the necessary improvisation when things don't go as expected. We live in the Netherlands - which places us not in a position to opt for becoming a volunteer - which I would certainly apply for if I lived in the neighbourhood.
You are doing a wonderful job!
I rescued the canal just before bridge 49 with use of the loader on a tractor whilst i was in the canal. got a whiskey from the lock keeper for my trouble and cow had an injection from the vet. caroline
Aaww that's brilliant ❤️
Very lovely story
I tip my hat to volunteers that do so much for the enjoyment of others.....
Thanks for watching Mike
What a fabulous day. Those people are doing a very rewarding job. Volunteering to keep their canal rubbish free is heart warming. I hope all those who use the canal appreciates all the work they do for them. Thank you Ant for an excellent video.
Glad you enjoyed the video Shirley thanks as always 😊
The Chesterfield Canal is my favourite, such beauty and perfect for walks between stations on the middle stretch.
The section from Shireoaks to Kiveton is ❤️
@@TrekkingExploration depends on your walking prowess but Retford to Worksop and Worksop to Kiveton. Not straight line between them obviously!
What a lovely video,Ant, the volunteers do a grand job, a never ending job at that, you certainly got a tan,😊 and I thought the large round log looked like one of your dumplings, not your step dad's cake,😂😂😂 xx
Many thanks Ant, that look a good day out, what a great team. Take care.
Thanks as always Christine 😊

Fantastic video! Really interesting and well-made as always, those volunteeers do a superb job.
Thanks very much John ☺️
Many thanks for a fascinating video. We are very lucky that there are so many public spirited people who keep the canal functioning. I think, however, that the Trust could really do with a chain saw!
Thanks very much for watching. Apparently they are not allowed to use a chainsaw
Well done to you all, was very interesting to watch.

Plenty of memories ❤️
I learned this from Tim and Pru (Timothy West and Prunella Scales), that someone who watches canal boats is called a "Gongoozler".
Yes such a peculiar word
my garden was just after bridge 48 on the right at oberton farm. caroline
