In September 1869 the Carniolan Industrial Company (KID), the predecessor of Železarna Jesenica and later the Slovenian Steel Group - SIJ Group, laid the foundation for the industrialisation of the once iron-making industry. By implementing modern technologies and innovation, it made Slovenian steel-making famous around the world, and put the modern SIJ Group at the very top of steel producers in the EU’s niche steel markets.
