I've heard it's cause Hawkeye has issues with clay courts. That was a couple years ago, so it could be fixed now, but like some other tournaments they should have those slow motion cameras for challenges.

I've done MMA and Tennis along with a handful of other sports at a casual level, tennis is the hardest sport I've ever played without combat involved. 1v1 sports will always be the most mentally challenging, and the technicality you need is next level.
Yep, its crazy demanding technically which is why even the greats lose their mind in rage for making a simple mistake.
thats why ill always have more respect for individual sports like tennis, mma, f1, etc. than team sports. if youre ever in a mental pit during a game, you can always rely on your teammates in team sports. Step on a tennis court, into the ring, or onto the f1 track, its just you and your opponent(s). Nothing else. Feeling frustrated? Gotta deal with it yourself. And lets not talk about the technical skill needed for these sports. Not that football or soccer aren't technically sound sports. But you can't just sub yourself out for a benchwarmer when things get tough.

The word “hardest” is pretty vague but MMA and Boxing are definitely the most dangerous sports, no argument there. But the amount of matches a tennis player has in a year on top of the travel, it takes a toll on the mind and body. Tennis players have to think long term, so they can play as long as possible and as many tournaments as possible. Overall, I’d have to agree with Big Foe.
Free solo climbing? Caving? People keep thinking of more ways to nearly get killed. Let's not pretend it's special. Maybe we need to relax a bit.

Nothing special, Zverev was always a bad loser against players that he thinks are much worst than him. Like once against Ćoric then he said : I should not lose anymore against players of his level. Despite being way down in h2h so imagine what he thinks after losing to Altmaier for the first time.

With Rublev's appeal successful, I think it worked out exactly as it should have. Defaulted the match for his behaviour, but kept his earnings and points for making it that far into the tournament. He didn't scream in anyone's face in his previous matches, he worked hard, and then he demonstrated a complete lapse of control, common sense, and decency.
You can't behave that way, and bluntly, game and point penalties aren't real consequences. He could still win the match, at which point the consequence is meaningless. Match default was the correct call.

I think tennis needs to get much tougher and crack down on abuse like this. Rublev collected 120k in prize money and had no ranking points deducted...and then there's all the foul abuse Kyrios used to deliver. He should have been much more penalised.

Smartest tennis channel hands down. This is the ONLY tennis channel I subscribed to. None of the fakey fake, vapid, corporate TC stuff. As for Rublev controversy - that default was coming, he was out of control for 2-3 weeks abusing umpires, linespeople, etc... He's a fan fave but I'm all for ATP and WTA putting their feet down on abusive behavior (Zverev, Serena, Kyrgios...). Also, corporate money has been ruining tennis for years already and Saudi money is just the next stage of this -- so Imma just enjoy tennis now while it's still decent until it all becomes a corporate dumpster fire.

Tennis is like fighting without the combatants knocking each other upside the head. The offense and defense of both sports are similarly entertwined, and singles tennis has the same "mano a mano" vibe as a fight. Thankfully, there are WAY fewer concussions in tennis, which is why I play it, rather than MMA!🤣
To me Rublev's action was inexcusable, especially now a player can stop and challenge. If he was 100% sure the ball was out, why didn't he just do that?

8:18 I think that if they have thousand level tournaments over there. If the women feel like they're being treated poorly they should be able to opt out without being fined. I think thats how it works. It shouldn't be like Indian Wells where women have to eat the fine if they don't want to go there specially if they've had a traumatic experience.
Boxers don't box in competition every day! I agree that tennis is one of the hardest sports on the body. Two broken menisci here.
Boxing training alone makes it impossible to compete every day. Also amateurs often box on consecutive days week in week out.

It's the point of a default. Making sure noone risks light heartedly being defaulted.
Love the video! Just wanted to point out though (6:05) that there are definitely other sports where players apologize for get a favourable fluke. Snooker comes to mind immediately, I'm sure there are others.

Also, the issue of incredibly bad calls by line judges us being missed and not addressed! !!!

Technically most difficult maybe, and mentally too, but not physically, no way.
I play tennis and I agree with you. Fighting sports are way harder than tennis. Contact sports like american football, hockey or rugby, to name a few, are in this category of the toughest sports out there as well.
And I try running non stop for 90 minutes in soccer.
We could add to the list cycling also. I don't think Francis Tiafoe is ready for the Tour de France just yet. ;)
But tennis is as you describe it. Technically and mentally demanding to say the least.
And at it is pretty tough on the body also, particularly at the pro level, but way down the list of the toughest sports in my humble opinion. I would reconsider if all points were 40 shots rallies though and all matches lasted 3 hours or more.

But if we talk about mental toughness then we may have a conversation, and even then I'm not sure tennis would win the day.

Professional Tennis is a very hard sport and very physically demanding. But another sport that is even harder than Tennis, though less physically demanding, is Golf.
And as far as difficulty of the sport is concerned, I would rank Professional Bowling up there as well.
We have the tech in place and it would speed up play get rid of line judges in all tournaments

I've been around the game for over 50 years and none of this is new.
I agree with tennis being the hardest sport. They say golf is, but honestly. The golf ball is stationary on the ground. Tennis balls come in different speeds, heights and spin. Me being a tennis coach, the average person steuggles eitht the sport BIG time. Badminton, table tennis, pickle ball, basketball, soccer, you can make something out of it without much coaching. To string a rally of 5 shots, requires alot of practice and talent together in tennis.
The argument that MMA is the hardest. Its the most brutal and life threatening. But its not hard cauae everyone can throw punches and kicks and hurt their opponent quite efficiently. The average untrained person could not make anything resemble a watxhable tennis game like the pros do.

Great channel! As far as the controversy of Ruble's dismal, wasn't Serena de'd for the same behavior at the US Open at one time? Once a player attempts to intimidate a Linesperson, how are they to continue judging without bias? They can't. Rublev has kept it under wraps for a while, but boy when he blows, watch out!
You should experiment narrating one tournament (atp and wta) at a time and insert off court news in the middle.
Drop two or three videos like that and compare metrics.
I say this because tennis jas many names every week, so simultaneosly narrating all can get confusing (at least to me)

i don’t think there’s any chance this saudi money goes to paying players more and especially not at the grassroots level. i have a feeling the vast majority will go to top level execs at the atp. they’ll keep lining their pockets and the smaller players will be lucky if they can get scraps
I remember the criticism young Nadal, and particularly young Hewitt would get for celebrating too hard when they would win points. I think it is ok to show a little more when winning some epic points, or critical games in the match, but it should be more measured when it is not one of these points such as a quick fist pump. Shelton overdoes it sometimes in my opinion, and especially when celebrating his opponent's mistakes. His phone celebration when winning a match is also classless in my opinion. Tennis is a more intimate sport with your opponent, and so shouldn't have too much flamboyance of celebrations out of sportsmanship.
6:26 I think the complaint against Shelton celebrating is because he's black or biracial or whatever. Goes back to the Arthur Ashe video where he says that John mcenroe is privileged because he can have emotional freedom. Also remember when Taylor dent was in the booth complaining about Jo wilfeid tsongas match winning dance. It usually only comes in the play when the player is a black dude. I'm sorry to say that. People will complain that black people are trying to turn tennis in the basketball and all of this crap it's ridiculous. We know that Shelton has at least some black in him so of course when he has energy like that people are going to complain. It sucks. Sheldon makes tennis enjoyable to watch.

I will restrict myself here to ONE comment only ..... do away with human line judges! The line calling tech has arrived full bore, and has totally established itself as close to 100% reliable as possible, even to the extent of replacing the prior Hawkeye replay challenges with real-time calls. It's high time to implement this tech in ALL tournaments, INCLUDING all clay court tourney's. It's totally ridiculous to have chair ump's called out repeatedly to look at little marks on a court and to get into verbal scruffs with players over a couple of centimeters. "Tradition" has weighed heavily in this sport, which also includes the reluctance of Wimbledon and Roland Garros to implement 5th set tie breakers, with Wimbledon finally compromising with a sort of "cop out" solution. Everyone, players and fans alike, simply want accuracy in line calls so we can eliminate all the subjective flack and get on with the match. Let the passions play out in the strokes, not in the verbal abuse.

Tennis is not the only sport to have a culture where you apologise for winning a point if you're lucky, try every single other racket sport, actually, pretty much every sport. I think Rublev should be punished for that action, but not defaulted for it. Unsportsmanlike conduct point penalty, a fine and that's it. But a default was too much, it's like getting a death sentence for stealing a Twix bar at the grocery store.

Bro, first of all, there isn't any need to see VIDEO evidences for a referee to take a decision, not even a default. There is not in any sport, except for specific rules introduced over the years: hawk eye in tennis, challenges in football, TMO in rugby, VAR in soccer.. but in general, for "normal" decision the refs or the audience are not required to see video evidence. They decide on their own and that's because they are supposedly "impartial judges". Also, it would be difficult to have "video evidence" for cursing. Even if in this specific case you could have, that's not general, and laws are made to be general.
Second of all, and most important, it wasn't just "some guy" that showed up and said he cursed: it was a line judge, so: an official. And since official are, guess what, officiating, their words are worth more than some random guy spectating the match
