    All this secret squirrel stuff! And obfuscation. This is the first time I’ve heard a comprehensive & detailed explanation about this matter & believe me, I follow Royal matters closely. So no wonder it went under the radar for so long. I was dismayed when I watched the Panorama interview initially wondering why on earth Diana would think it a good idea. I couldn’t understand what she thought to gain by it when Morton’s book had already been published. I loved her so I didn’t question it any further & I’m certainly not surprised to have learned how these people used her for their own ends. And congratulated themselves for having done so 10 years later. And aside from Bashir, no one was held to account for it to this day. Disgusting!

    Great episode as usual 👏👏👏❤️ This episode gave an interesting account of the process of exposing the Bashir debacle (imagine, all it took to start was a photo in another book!!) and the subsequent BBC cover up. I applaud Mr Webb on his perseverance (and Andrew too with the Mountbatten files). The BBC reaction just shows the length people would go to protect their jobs and status. Unfortunately Martin Bashir seems to be the role model for many in media nowadays. There are so called journalists (won't state names but I'm sure you know who they are) who would put out a skewed narrative just to further their own aims. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next 😍

    Makes me wonder if Spencer's funeral bash of the RF was driven by his own guilt.

    • @michelleb3698
      @michelleb3698 Před 3 měsíci +5

      Perhaps. I thought that was an appalling thing to do with Diana's grieving sons in attendance. Diana’s funeral really wasn't about Spencer and his feelings.

    Despite all the shenanigans at the BBC are we saying that Diana and Earl Spencer held no responsibility at all for any of this? Also I think the ‘what if’ scenario is completely unfair. What if any of us went right or left and the consequences were regrettable it was our decision to go. Who hasn’t wondered what would have happened if one hadn’t taken a certain decision.

    Very complicated program and I feel, after watching it in its entirety that I have more questions about the whole Panorama interview, cover-up, blame game than I had before. I wonder, not being a legal eagle but knowing how everyone over here in the US tiptoes around document scandals--who had what and where was it stored--until all legal proceedings are over, whether it might not have been better to have had Mr Webb on after his current court case is concluded? So that he could have spoken with more clarity as to who knew what when and so that names can be named without fear of slander? I felt there was SO much left unsaid about who was involved in what before the interview took place, who did what after, about the long froideur that Jephson and Ms Legge Bourke endured, and whether it was solely down to the BBC's stonewalling that nothing really emerged before now, despite, as Webb says, mention being made of fakery in one of Morton's books. I am interested in it because I have followed Diana and her sons since the 1970s. I watched the Panorama interview in Canada and thought "that's it, the marriage is over and Diana will be out of the RF, too much revealed." I almost see history repeating itself except now the narrative is between two brothers and once again the Panorama interview plays a part, even if it's a small one. William says the interview should be completely forgotten, that it was a travesty, should never to be seen again and Harry used footage from it and mentioned it in his Netflix reality series as Diana's opportunity to tell her truth even though she was deceived into giving it. Also I think that Harry may have mentioned it in his memoir (I haven't read the book.) To sum up, I think the program needed more clarity around the issues. I felt it got lost in some way, that an opportunity to talk about truth in journalism and what the consequences are when untruths are first promulgated and later exposed, got muddied in, perhaps, too much extra conversation that wasn't relevant, too much detail? Probably because this isn't a courtroom :)

      Yea probably a little ‘inside the beltway’ for a general audience and there are indeed continuing legal and other reasons for being a little vague on some points - and some people! Maybe we need to return to this when more dust has settled. But I loved meeting Andy and am clearly a huge fan! But thanks for the feedback and all points taken.

      The difference in how the brothers responded to these revelations about the Martin Bashir/Panorama interview fraud & BBC coverup is a very clear indication of one of the reasons for the rift between them. Harry seems to have been determined to seek revenge on certain individuals for perceived wrongdoing against his Mother. While William was more concerned to acknowledge it but put it behind him & move on. I suspect because he’s keen to protect both his Father, his children & the Monarchy from further scandal.

    No wonder why. Charles thought Diana was having mental problems her belief that charles was screwing Tiggy & which Diana confronted tiggy about her getting abortion which tiggy threatned to sue Diana on a personal level for defamition . Diana was extremely jealous of tiggy
