1987 TAG Models NAVAJO RC BUGGY RESTORED AND DRIVEN

  • This is a very interesting rc buggy that’s an Italian made 1/10 with some toyish bits but hobby grade ones as well. TAG was synonymous With nitro powered racing rc cars in 80’s and 90’s. With Robbe modelsorts helping to distribute this unique buggy these were found in different countries too. With a unique body and chassis the Italian designer from TAG models really did create something almost extraordinary. You can see itin the video as this buggy was a fighter it would not let go of coming back to life again. The issues though are plenty as plastic used is not good as its rough to touch and bends easily, car gears are narrow, ultra flimsy lexan body, chunky thread bolts as kingpins through front wheel type design with no bushing allowance. Not too mention a small c clip for rear wheel lockouts. Now lets talk the good- includes a 540 s motor, compact but accessible bathtub type chassis designed nearly two inches longer than 1/10 Rc buggies and macPherson strut style on all four sides. Mid motor design and good wheel width makes for an impressive driving car. Better than you would think. This all started as parts car with cracking shell, flat spots tires, burnt out motor, missing steering parts, battery door, no manual or box. No drive shaft on rear, missing suspension rods. Numerous screws. It needed lots of help to make happen. Thanks to HPi racing Saturn 27 motors, Tower Pro 995 digi servos, kimbrough servo savers, dubro steering links and ball ends. SG Coyote drive shafts, HobbyWing quick run 1060 esc and fly sky radio. Some home made decals and paint the Navajo reeled back to life. Couldn’t be happier with this old 1987 Italian lil fighter. Hope you enjoyed watching as I had restoring. More rc videos ahead. Thanks 🙏

It is a wild looking one for sure, they went out on their own designing it! I enjoy the odd and quirky ones and this fits right in there for sure! Great job getting it all fixed up and out running again. The only thing I would have changed on it is the battery door, I would have had to of cut that out of some carbon fiber just for the irony of it! LOL!! Thanks for sharing it Luke!

lol! yeah the carbon fiber battery door on a 87 Italian made toy/budget hobby rc car would have been absolutely amazing man. Always a pleasure having the great Addam stop by.☺️

Still think it’s crazy that both you and Andy Robinson both released videos on these and most of us hardcore RC guys have never even heard of these. I vaguely remember seeing these at toys r us as a kid but was more interested in the monogram and cox cars they had. Super cool resto mod Luke

Oh man! This car takes me back to the old r/c magazines where I use to see this model in the advertisement areas. I always did like the look of the Navajo and yes it surely did borrow some design qeues from the SG Coyote. One day I will get the Navajo. Thanks again Luke.

Yeah Jason mine was pretty bad shape but it was inexpensive. Turned out great, Andy from Andy Robinson RC told me his was problematic with gear issues. So could be a factory issue but mine was awesome as video showed. Promise if I come across one for reasonable price I’ll just post it to you. Thank you for your valuable information and if have anyone gives you insight on any RCL Incident’s for sale please share your information to me. Love to own one. Thank you 🙏

Hiya :) Enjoyed the video, looked superb zipping about. I think maybe I should have ran mine on more of a flat surface may have put less stress on the grerbox. Loved your nod to the Italian Stallion ;) thank you for the shout out , much appreciated, you’re a Gent. Interesting note, your rear wheels E clip on the rear axle shafts where mine had proper wheels nuts ? Maybe they changed over to nuts later on in production? Box art shows E clip fitting. Awesome work Luke and great to see another Navajo on YT . Take care

Hey Luke, really nice build. I found you via your Nikko Scorpion video. I love the work you do to these old cars and was wondering if you take any requests? I just bought a 90s Nikko buggy in "good" condition that my cousin had when we were kids, it has no radio of course so I was thinking of just swapping everything out and giving it to him for his birthday. I'm sure that you could do a much better job on it than I could though, so throwing it out there -- maybe you could do a video on it and then ship it back and I could throw you some cash to cover it? Let me know what you think, thanks!

Hi sir, so I’m appreciative you reaching out to me but I have around 120 vehicles to do. Usually 1-2 month. It would be years before I could help you and then there is the responsibility of someone else’s property. And then expectation. I don’t want to sound offensive or anything but even if I would do and charge for the time it probably would be too expensive. It literally takes weeks for some projects to complete just the hrs I have invested would blow your mind probably 30 hrs for a majority plus if i were to put an hr rate price $40-50 to be honest. My advice would be to look up that car on CZcams you’ll probably find someone who’s modifying it. I hope this helps. Take care buddy

I haven't seen anyone working on this exact car (Nikko Enforcer), but I'll keep watching your videos and will take a shot at it myself -- there's definitely some common ground between various models. Hi Nick, it’s been awhile since you commented? Where you been lol! So it’s all about prep lots of that with 1500 sandpaper.Behr paint is good as it’s designed for plastic with an advanced adhesive ingredient. I use it for a majority of rc restos on the channel and every one looks great still. Pics on Instagram of the current pack at lukesvintagerc. More to come as you can expect.
