  • Timothee Chalamet (the one and only Timmy C) is interviewed at the London Film Festival premiere of his movie The King which airs on Netflix. He stars with Robert Pattinson and Ben Mendelsohn and together they lead an all-star cast. Telling the story of King Henry V, the new film was co-written by Joel Edgerton and David Michôd for Michôd to direct. The cast includes Lily-Rose Depp, Sean Harris, Thomasin McKenzie, Tara Fitzgerald and Dean-Charles Chapman. The film premiered at the London Film Festival and Scott Davis and Colin Hart were on the red carpet for us.
    He talks about being the realities of doing a film this size, and not becoming an action hero (thought he does talk about enjoying John Wick)
    Hal, wayward prince and heir to the English throne, is crowned King Henry V after his tyrannical father dies. Now the young king must navigate palace politics, the war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life.
    Synopsis: Hal (Timothée Chalamet), wayward prince and reluctant heir to the English throne, has turned his back on royal life and is living among the people. But when his tyrannical father dies, Hal is crowned King Henry V and is forced to embrace the life he had previously tried to escape. Now the young king must navigate the palace politics, chaos and war his father left behind, and the emotional strings of his past life - including his relationship with his closest friend and mentor, the aging alcoholic knight, John Falstaff (Joel Edgerton).

As for Timothèe only time will tell if he can continue to mature in a positive way. I hope his personal life takes a different turn than those two, for his sake.

      @Viviána he definitely thinks about most of his responses. More so than he did earlier on. He's said things very honestly in the past that weren't good PR wise. He still rambles- it's part of his charm - so they haven't tried to coach it out of him. But he does pause before his responses to probing questions. He kept the best bits and learned to hold back without being dishonest. He's got the goods.

    • @alpenjon
      @alpenjon Před 4 lety +8

      @@delia1985 Desiree M Ok, so Hitler's main motive was to prove his manliness? I think there are many more convincing analyses, as his first career choice was painter and he had more obvious issues than being a man. Also, if you say wars are generally linked to men (many exceptions: European queens (England?), Joan of Arc, also Zheng Yisao, a Chinese woman who led the largest pirate fleet in world history, etc.), therefore it surely the gender is to blame is a simplistic and false conclusion. The USA is fighting many current wars for geostrategical, economic etc. reasons, and it is a democracy with female voters and representatives. I will guarantee that even having a female president will not lead to this country pulling out of wars. Also, if you reduce complexity to mere gender you might as well claim that because in the last centuries the majority of scientific snd engineering breakthroughs were made by men it is about something like male genius. But you woulnd't go for that fallacy there and look for societal and structural reasons etc. instead. Never would you speak of male genius or female stupidity (and neither would I). I think it is toxic (yes, any gender can be toxic) to pathologize genders insteaed of an appreciation of differences. These days boys being competitive is already tainted with supposed toxicity.

    • @AbcDef-ww2gy
      @AbcDef-ww2gy Před 4 lety +15

      Oh God, here come the whining men who can't understand English again. FYI, the term "toxic masculinity" never refers to ALL masculinity. It refers to SOME masculinity. It refers to assholes at parties, which was Timothee's first example, but it doesn't apply to every single man at the party. No woman would apply the term to every man at the party, or she wouldn't bother attending the party! (And it can also apply to men who take the term "toxic masculinity" personally. Non-toxic males automatically understand the term doesn't apply to them.)

    • @jl4571
      @jl4571 Před 4 lety +2

      Desiree M That’s a fairly narrow view of the situation. For one thing what is masculinity? Our culture likes to apply traits that are not solely male to males. As far as I can tell male and female experience existence in 95% percent the same way. The other 5% is based on our biological differences otherwise we all get angry we all get depressed we all get scared.
      Let’s say there is specific distinguishing traits other than our bodies. You still can’t be more male than the most male. Because that’s what “toxic masculinity” has been equated to. You can be more of one thing attributed to maleness but that would mean your lacking the other traits. So if anything were talking about lacking maleness. And our society is try to drive that into the ground at the moment which of course means it’s causing the issues.
      But like I said I think male and females are more or less the same other than our biology which can cause us to experience these things to varying degrees but we see this among individuals as well so it’s hardly fair to stop there.
      If you ask me we should be talking about the lack of humanness and thats across the board not just in males. And our society is still driving that into the ground because they haven’t defined what a human is other than another animal.
      I’m gonna get Christian on you here for a moment. While modern Christian understanding has been skewed by all the splits, ancient Christianity understood humanness to be the fullness of both male and female or rather male and female took certain traits and incorporated more or less of one or another into their existence when they fell. Christ brings all those traits back into him equally or in the right proportions and he defines the true human. Of course I do think the lack of religious tradition drives the degradation of or society but I’m willing to put that aside when talking to those who have differing views but I figured that might give the context of my understanding of the situation. Though you don’t need that to understand my point about the lack or skewed understanding the genders and humanness.
      In fact that weird understanding flys in the face of the liberals own understanding of gender fluidity. Weird I’m more liberal than the liberals. Though my understanding throws that idea out the window because it means transitioning is just vanity, I’m fine with that though.
      To your point about war though it comes down to the same thing the guys starting stupid wars usually apply it to some masculine power play but if you look at it it’s just identifying a trait that is construed with males but is just plainly a human trait. Really it comes down to that the person is just trying to make sure that they survive. They might give some reason they link to males but really their scared because of tension so they strike first. Basic animalistic instincts. And besides correlation doesn’t equal causation the fact that a majority leaders have been men doesn’t mean their maleness was the reason for the war. And seeing as we don’t have a considerably big enough pool of women leaders to compare to it would be unfair to claim that.
      To be fair to each side no one alive has the fullness of humanness. I think it would be far more helpful if it were looked at that way.

    • @jl4571
      @jl4571 Před 4 lety +2

      Abc Def and by the way “Non-Toxic males automatically understand the term doesn’t apply to them.” Basically your saying if your mad about this your the problem. Which essentially reads if your angry it means we’re right. That’s hardly an argument. Someone can still be right and get angry/frustrated because they are annoyed that person who is wrong can’t accept that their wrong.

      @Johannes Liechtenauer actually because of his ability to think he could identify the problems of a toxic masculinity. A toxic masculinity is a stereotypical trope that confounds men in certain boxes, if you don't belong to those boxes you are not man enough, we are so much more than that. He understands that, even in such a young age (to be honest he is 22, so not that young). I think instead of staying in your own comfortable idea of masculinity you should broaden your understanding.
