I'm not really sure I understand this project if the guts of the flooded car were good enough to put in the other one surely would make more sense just to fix the bits in the flooded car that need fixing it's a better car and it's probably worth more money fixed than the other one?

Regarding the seats you should most certainly get them deep cleaned with a vac steamer because the problem is not the leather but the underlaying foam which could be holding a lot of fungus
they have to be stripped down to the frame,and deep cleaned.
Exactly - and the inside of the leather will also be holding mould. They need to be fully stripped as you've said - though might be easier just to buy another set that hasn't been flooded
It can be a health hazard if black mold develops in the foam, its extremely poisions for your lungs and increases the chances of lung cancer and other serious airway pathologies. This is from a medical point of view of course.
I came here to say the same thing. Black mould. Super bad for your health. Foams need to be replaced.
Working for OEM, in my experience bad weather in Australia has had a few drain tube blocked Tiguans water damaged. Part of VW repair procedure and some OHS regulations, we are required to remove leather, assess foam for mould replace or dry out and deep clean where it can be. In some cases VW has offered to replace car seats contaminated by mould.
Those seats are sus. Please check the foam under seat cover, dont make your self sick with mold.
Dean as others have said their seats are scrap, unless you can strip off the leather wash all the sponge and thoroughly dry, they are going to harbour all sorts of fungus and mould ... SCRAP THEM
Just with the wiring, Humble mechanic did a DAZA swap to a MK7.5R recently and I'm pretty sure it's the same platform. The wiring video he just did could give you some insights should you need it. Really enjoying the series so far!

use a leather conditioner on those seats, just keep applying it, it should rehydrate the leather and stop them from cracking
I did just that! I will probably get them retrimmed with VRS in the headrest
@@SavingSalvage You can use some of your misses’ moisturiser if you run out of proper stuff. She might kill you though 😂
Put cheap oil in the engine. Cycle the oil pump manually for some time. Do that 2 times. Then you should have all the water out & you can start the engine with proper new clean quality oil.
How is the cheap oil going to collect the water? Better off putting a vacuum pump into the engine to boil off the water.
Just tare the engine apart….
You might have cleaned the leather but the foam inside those seats will be minging, definIte biohazard, expect a stinky skoda later down the line
Agree. We all saw the state of the rear squab, the front seats will be the same if not worse, the frame will be rusty and the airbags are probably u/s.
The results from the ice blasting are crazy!

A trick that I have seen on several channels is to pour 2T oil into the cylinders. Apart from being fine enough to reach all the corners that are needed, it is designed to be burned, so any residue left when you start the engine will quickly disappear...
Hope you check the foams underneath the seat covers for flood damage

Have a look into a guy on CZcams called the humble mechanic he’s just freshly done a DAZA swap in his mk7.5 golf r and he’s done the wiring to a T
Hes just done a video explaining exactly what he did to make that build today also.

i used to think that sandblasting is the best but after seeing ice blasting here and on Mat Armstrong's channel, I am convinced ice blasting is neat, tidy and does an excellent job
I hate saying this, but seriously mate you need to remove that ring when you work. If you ever have anything drop on your hand that ring will be a very painfull bit of gear to take off. Trust me i had to remove one of a workmate and he was in some really serious pain.

Too be honest it’s the water ingress in the foam padding that will cause you a problem defo will get mould in them and when dry will go into the air after a while but can’t wait too see this on the road 👍

The humble mechanic just put up a full video discussing the wiring he did on his dazza swap to a golf. He meticulously documented it so might be useful
I make cinema chairs and I can tell you once chairs have been damp and moldy like that for a long time the foam inside will be full of mold. If you put those chairs in the skoda you will regret it later.

I hope all those con rods are still straight and the engine wasn't running and hydrolocked in the crash...... That binding when you were turning the engine by hand was worrying. I'd have had took the block off while it was out and changed them just in case.

The results of ice blasting is really awesome. I not sure about the long term effects on the metal components. I work in the Aerospace industry and I'd think the massive sudden temprature change would fatige the metal.
CO2 blasting is safe for metallic components. There is no risk of fatigue - as this usually involves hundreds of thousands to several million load cycles. A rapid burst of cooling gas will not have any impact on the metal's strength. This is my view as a forensic metallurgist.

If the seats are so hard on the Nappa leather Dean, why not get some leather feed and rub that into the seats to soften them and stop them from cracking poorly in the future?

Absolutely amazing Dean, nothing seems to faise you in your quest to build a Skoda RS3 estate. It will be a wonderful machine if you manage to complete it. In reference to the seats, they look fine but not only do the underneath foams have germs and residue of flood water but it is a nasty mix of water and sewage! (Poo!!)

Will the seats not start to smell through the foam padding being saturated in water...and possibly create damp in new car...

In answer to your question. Probably easier to undo the locking ring with the tank fixed in place. So good choice. Even if you don’t know why you did it 😂

You inspired me. I've tried to rewire my rsv4 brake lights and indicators and I'm lost. You inspired me. I lost the battle. But I did manage to change the the radiator fan 😂😂❤ little wins

21.42 minutes, oil being pushed out of the cleaned engine. Is anyone surprised? It was good with the magic mixture in the cylinders. I would probably have filled a new oil filter with oil and installed it there, and filled the engine with the right amount of oil as well. Lubrication is important. Interesting movie.
I recon the seats are a lost cause unfortunately. They look great but I would imagine the foams underneath are holding a ton of water and mould and other nasty stuff and i would imagine the frames aren’t in great condition either. Prob best to keep the Octavia original seats or change them for second hand rs3 ones from elsewhere

They all share the MQB platform so the chassis is the same 🙌🏼

Sure you’ll work it out anyway, but Humble Mechanic has done an RS3 swap into a mk7 golf and done the wiring loom - might save some time.

I live in the U.S., so some of the cars are different, but interesting all the same. Maybe one I'll get the opportunity to visit the U.K. and wrench on something. Hi Dean. I suspect that this is why you used the hole saw anyway, but you didn't mention it in the video. Do you need to weld a sleeve in that hole for the engine mount, or does the rs3 one come with some sort of spacer? Just thinking of the two walls of the rail crushing together when you boot the mount in. Love the channel.
Use Mink oil on the seats. They’ll soften up like new 🙌🏻
I don’t now what anyone else thinks by I was gutted to still spot the TVR sat in the corner!

Man, those seats shouldn’t go anywhere near you are inside that car. They will have lots of fungus and horrible bacteria that can cause you serious harm, especially if they’ve been submerged in sewage or drainage water.
Since they are damaged from the ice blasting, just bin them.
Can’t wait for the next episode on this swap.
