    Always a pleasure to follow along the river with you Mr McPhail. A couple of hundred casts in and "hey first cast" tis the utterance of a true angler indeed.

    Once again great vid Davie . I'm surprised you don't catch more Par . Or maybe, they get edited out. And over the years I've fished. It never ceases to amaze me, the amount of work that's been done on rivers, to stabilise the banks. Or even change the course in some case . Nowadays the use gabions, but not originally . Where I am now, the estate owners completely altered the course in the 1800s . With everything , including the bed of the small spate River and feeder burns and new weirs , with even the beds of which, being lined in a lot of places with quarried and worked stone. It was taken over by the FC and now the FLS both of whom, have let in fall into disrepair. And leased the fishing to Dunoon Angling club. But it's a hard river to fish now.Because of neglect. There used to be great migratory runs . But like most west coast rivers, now severely depleted.

    Many thanks for yet another informative video in beautiful surroundings Davie. I really appreciate the video format where you get the feeling that you are alongside the angler. So much to learn from simple observation. By the way, how wide in the River Doon on the beat with the wall section? It's difficult to gauge, not least as I don't know how far out you have waded. Thanks :)

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před měsícem +1

      Hi @outdammspot,
      It's not a wide river as I would say it averages around 20 to 25 feet across though I've never really measured so I'm sure someone else would say something different..I'm glad you enjoyed the video and the way I film it..
      All the very best Davie..

    Another great video Davie. Thank you! I thought you used fulling mill leaders which are copolymer I believe? You mention fluorocarbon leaders in this video. What make of these do you use?

  • @rosscoplaybass490
    @rosscoplaybass490 Před měsícem +1

    Hi Davie, when your fishing a dry fly, and a nymph of the dropper , how long should the dropper be, it take it you don’t want it to be to long.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před měsícem +1

      Hi @rosscoplaybass490,
      I like it to be around 3 foot from the dry though I will change it to suit the water I am fishing in though you can vary the depth by using weighted or unweighted flies as I did in the video...
      All the very best Davie

    Would you like to fish at Friars Carse on The Nith on either July 23rd or 24th. We will be a group of mainly game angling instructors and most of us tie as well. We can show you an unusual fly that has caught 100s of Trout and Grayling on The Nith . I myself caught a least 100 grayling last year in 4 days and couple of extra hours fishing 2 weeks later. If you would like to come I will leave word with Friars that you can come as my guest . Just give them a call later this week and they will give you my details

      Hi Paul,
      It's very kind of you to ask me along and to be honest I would have been there like a shot but unfortunately I can't make it.I know I would have had a great day with you all and as well seeing the special fly that you have come up with...I hope you and all your friends have a great couple of days..
      All the very best Davie..
