Andresland182, la favorita ese año para mis Colombia era la representante del departamento del Valle, que quedo de tercera finalista. Ese año no se distinguió particularmente por haber tenido bellas participantes, sin embargo las mas bonitas quedaron por fuera de las fianlistas para sorpresa y descontento de todos.
O Mexico o USA debieron haber ganado ese año, estaban bellisimas. Soy de Colombia y debo admitir que me sorprendio la inclusion de la colombiana entre las semifinalistas pues nunca la consideré bella, su eleccion como miss Colombia causó controversia y descontento genral. Para participar en miss universo le trasformaron completamente el look porque cuando la eligieron no era nada linda, una chica comun y corriente.

In those days, there was only one panel of judges, not like today, where there are two: one for the prelim and one for the finals. So the judges obviously changed their minds on finals night...and from what I saw, based solely on the interview portion.

Todas muy lindas, pero sinceramente creo que Amanda debio haber ganado, pero pz Pontip tambien era muy linda, creo que influyo el hecho de que el evento fuera realizado en Asia, habia muchas asiaticas finalistas
La dominicana era la más bonita, lucia fresca.
Pero la unica que se podia sacar ahi era la dominicana! Estaba perfecta!!! Que injusticia!! Las demas, nada que ver...!

Que bueno ver la hermandad todas se dan besos cuando llegan al frente ya eso casi ni se ve , pero y todas esas asiaticas ofrezcome ese fue su año, pero USA, Republica Dominicana, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico , Corea del Sur y Tailandia son las que mas brillan ahi.

Miss USA was not remove from the top 5 on purpose. Miss USA simply was unable to carry with her to the finals her momentum in the prelims. She didn't have spark during finals nights.
the year before 1987, mu mas held in an asian country, but it wasnt so clear the favoritism, cause only two asian delegates made into the finalists, but 1988 was very asian contest.

do they use a completely different judging panel for preliminaries & semifinals? i read that miss usa & miss dominican republic had the top scores to qualify for the top 10. of course anything can happen in the finals but how is it neither of the top two from prelims made the top five for finals? quite a swing in scoring, i'd say...
@Zevola y vaya que fué venganza asiática, pues supongo que los asiáticos dijeron: "bueno si las latinas ganan casi todos los año, Europa les sigue porqué no aprovechar ahora que se realiza el concurso en Asia para que gane una asiatica! y no sólo ganó una asíatica sino que el top 5 estuvo repleto de asiaticas, wao! la verdad eso deja mucho que decir (fraude) porque entonces porqué nunca se ha repetido eso con las asiaticas? está bien raro.. aunque ya es hora que gane otra asiatica este 2011.

Actually I know that Miss Mexico came from a high class family and that she just compited because her family wanted it so. Also there waa a roumor that she was about to win but she didn't want it because she wanted to get married!!!

Este foi o pior concurso de Miss Universo que já houve. Os juízes eram quase todos asiáticos e simplesmente tiveram a cara-de-pau de selecionar 4 candidatas orientais, sendo duas delas simplesmente horríves. Horríveis misses Hong Kong e Japan que nunca poderia ter sido selecionadas. Isso é uma vergonha.

It funny why you should say that. This was one of the best years for Asia. So if let's say 4 out of 5 contestants were from say, Latin America, (2005) would you still cry out foul play and say that this was a Miss Latin America Pageant?? Hope this gets you thinking! Asian girls rock too!!

That is no excuse to say latinas are ugly, they are beautiful because they come in many colors, faces, different kind of hair, as well as diversity of personalities. Definitely the best year for the Asian delegates. Miss Japan and Miss Korea really seemed genuinely happy for the other to be placed in the top 10. Miss Norway seemed like a snob to me. Miss USA looked like a man. The horrors of the 80s. Big hair. Big make-up. Miss Thailand is stunning though.

con todo lo q dicen de colombia, q es fea, fue la unica suramericana junto con venezuela q entraron en el top 10, dond la rosca asiatica era evidente, mas feas estaban las asiaticas, las latinas eran las mejores.
