- Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing the history, as we know it, of the well known and well loved Weasley family.
Even those not terribly familiar with the wizarding world of Harry Potter will have likely-at the very least-HEARD of the large and lovable Weasley clan. Recognized not only by their shock of bright red hair but also by their unwavering loyalty and widespread reputation for believing all witches and wizards are equal, the Weasleys are present within the novels and films from almost the very beginning of the series. First introduced during the famous scene at King’s Cross Station in which Harry searches for Platform 9 ¾s, we meet Ron, his mother, Molly, and four of Ron’s six siblings before Harry even boards the Hogwarts Express. From there, Harry and Ron go on to create one of the strongest friendships of the entire series, with the orphaned “Boy Who Lived” spending much of his time with, not only Ron, but the entire Weasley family during the many holidays and special events that take place over the years. But where did this famous family of redheads known for their strong beliefs and affiliation with doing “what is right”-even in the face of financial instability-come from? What is the history of the Weasley family?
Let’s start from the beginning.

I've always felt that much of Arthur's attitude toward muggles comes off in a "Oh, bless their hearts" kind of way. I'm sure the condescension is unintentional, because Arthur is a genuinely good man
In my head canon, the Wesley’s remained pure blood for so long by sheer accident. They all chose to love who they love but if they’re all like Molly and had a ton of kids, chances are one of them will always pair off with another full blood by coincidence 🤷🏻♂️
How did I not know the twins' birthday was APRIL FIRST?!
😂🤦🏻♀️
Makes sense with their personalities lol
well, it only makes sence
You said the Earliest known Weasleys were Semtimus and Sedula, but in Hogwarts Legacy we learn of Garret Weasley and his aunt, Mathilda Weasley, which is at least 100 years before the main story.
Hogwarts legacy isn’t canon tho. Maybe the characters but not the story. It just worked to place a game during the goblin rebellions of the 1890’s, and then develop ranrok as the main enemy. Sort of like an alternate universe. As far as I know. I may be wrong maybe they’ll confirm the truth in the future
@bubonicdruid99 Honestly, we don't know whether JK is considering it as such, but since it was made with love and fits into the universe so well... I consider it such though others may not.
@@horsedude1999 Pretty sure it is considered canon, though.
@@Lupinemancer87no it’s not
@@Joseph-nb4cu Some people say it is, some people say it's not. Untill we are told otherwise I'll stick with the idea that it is.
It would have been interesting if you made the connection as to how Arthur W. was related to the current black family like “ his mother being septa, Black made Arthur and serious, regulus, Bellatrix, etc. first cousins.“ That way it would bring things more into focus and interesting. I also think a visual family tree would be key in making this video showing it for a few seconds as a full page that people can pause on, and then giving it an inch or so, down the side of each screen so people could continue to follow it along with the commentary. Just a thought that I know would’ve been helpful and interesting to me. Thanks for the video 😊♥️
I'm curious as to where Professor Matilda Weasley and Gareth Weasley from Hogwarts Legacy fit into it. We know Gareth is Matilda's nephew. If Arthur was born in 1950, Gareth would have been he'd be roughly 74 years old. Septimus would have been born somewhere in the 20's, so it's probably fair that Gareth might be Arthurs Great Grandfather.
It’s more likely that Garreth is a great great uncle if he had any children of his our and considered Matilda didn’t have any children, she obviously wasn’t closely related to the Weasley in the books/films. Hogwarts legacy was made in such a way that it was far away enough from the original source material but still have a lot of familiarities so it could be considered canon but from what I know, it hasn’t been officially confirmed as such. Some people suggest that it takes place in an alternate universe but I find it hard to believe since WB wanted to expand on the wizarding world and it wouldn’t make sense to have ‘what if’ stories or go down the Marvel AU multiverse path.
these are my favorite videos! you put it together wonderfully. the only thing i could add would be maybe putting in a family tree that’s visual because it was hard for me to keep track of who’s who. otherwise amazing video!!!
But I thought Molly and Arthur were not involved in the first Order of the Phoenix because they were expecting the twins and had already some of their older sons. Molly's brothers instead were active and killed by Deatheaters. That's why she named the boys Fred and George. I'm not sure they were active at all besides their extended family members. They are not even in the photo of the members. They were protecting their family
There were five Weasley children on the platform...Percy, George, Fred, Ron, & Ginny.
Ron and 4 of his 6 siblings. Same thing, no need to correct.
i think it’s amazing how much chemistry all of the actors have and how they act together. It almost seems like they are a “real” family.
How about a video featuring Wormtail? I'd be interested in seeing how the quartet came to be and the intersection of their lives.
Keep putting out these great videos I listen to them at work all the time!
I greatly enjoyed this extensive video!!! Thank You ❤
I enjoyed learning about one of my favorite families in the series. Thanks for this one.
Awesome as always thanks
Thanks for another great video!
That was a lovely HP History lesson.
I was watching another of your videos, what a happy coincidence 😁
I've just discovered your channel, searching "What if Diggory survived?"
I think you are the MasakoX of Harry Potter.
Subscribed!
Finally, now I have found two people that creates What-ifs on my favourites franchises!
I never get tired of that ending! Absolute genius
Arthur had brothers? Wow. Did they start families? What became of them?
Arthur had 2 brothers. One of whom was called Bilius which is also Ron's middle name. The name of the 2nd brother is unknown, but we know that at least one of them had kids. Because the Weasley kids mention in book 7 (maybe even before but I can't remember now) that they have cousins. Bilius died in early 1980's and the other brother remains a mystery.
Fun fact Ginny's been the only Weasley girl that's been born in 150 years.
Someone needs to look into why nobody can remember the Weasleys' names.
I recall Ron discussing they had a cousin who was a squib (an accountant they dont talk about), and there's the Great Aunt that tends to be the reluctant benefactor of the Weasley's. I wonder if we got any insight on them? Considering Arthur's obsession, it kind of would have been interesting if there was more engagement there. Maybe a random gift of a random toaster or lightbulbs in exchange for magical jams or stories something. That the squib secretly uses his correspondents with his wizarding kin to write bad children's books.
Yes the second cousin who’s the accountant
Remembering the time Arthur and Molly went for a walk around Hogwarts at 4am
Arthur and Molly didn’t join the order of the Phoenix until the second Wizard war
Yes they did, but they were not active members as they were just starting their family
@@mya1999what makes you think this way? It is confirmed in the dialog between Molly and Lupin in the OotP, that they were not.
Been seeing a lot of Harry Potter stuff recently on CZcams. Last week I was at Walmart and I saw a gaggle of red heads. Three red hair girls and their mother. I just took a gamble that day. I approached to the mother and said, “Red hair. Hand me down clothes. You must be a Weasley.” Fortunately the mother was a Harry Potter fan and said, “Says the pureblood in a Muggle grocery store.” I’m glad we weren’t throwing hands after that.
Did Ravenclaw have ancient magic? In Hogwarts Legacy it says Hogwarts was made by and holds a lot of ancient magic. If it was made by ancient magic, Ravenclaw had ancient magic
Very comprehensive. The only other detail that I might have added, though by no means necessary, is Harry’s involvement in helping the twins start WWW.
Matilda Weasley? Hogwarts Legacy? The story is cannon.
Nah dude, Hogwarts legacy is not confirmed as canon, and i dont think it will either
I KNEW James' middle name HAD to be Sirius!!!!!
(I had Harry Potter stuck in my head so badly, I had to write a story. Anyway, that was the name I picked! (Though I had oodles and oodles of differences from canon)).
Any mention of the Weasley's from Hogwarts legacy?
There‘s something missing, which would proof the families roots in England go at least back to 11th century. JKR once told, that the Weasleys are descents of Catweazle.
So she saw it too
Good video about a family I always loved (excluding that MF Percy). I don't understand something- If Rowling already decided to kill off a Weasley. Why not Percy or Charlie? Out of the 7 kids these 2 I never cared about too much. They seemed disposal enough to kill. I would add that Molly won thanks to Harry, because Harry casted a love protection on everyone who fought on his side. Which gave Molly a plot armor (and her rage for losing a son) to defeat the so much superior to her Bellatrix. Also we know the identity of Fabian and Gideon's killer- Antonin Dolohov.
Because if she killed off one of the less likeable Weasleys who would’ve cared?
@@imperialinquisition6006 I know what you mean. If Percy died after his behavior I wouldn't care.
Molly was more skilled than people like you give her credit for
@@jakdekayenAny evidence she was powerful? If not for Harry's love protection she would have been destroyed by Bellatrix. Molly was way too weak no matter how furious she was. Like a normal human vs. a goddess level. Minerva McGonagall for example, was on Bellatrix level if not higher.
Do a video on, "what if Dumbledore raised harry"
It would be so interesting to see album acting as a dad:) 😂
I can’t help but wonder what it would have been like if the storyline was simply that Tiana & friends go on a picnic with their new puppy that runs off and they’re simply looking for it.
The Easter Eggs being that the puppy is in every scene “hidden” from the characters but visible to the guests.
Of course, he appears multiple times in the same scene randomly turning it into a game.
Hello from Florida usa 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
So Arthur is the Black's descendant OMG 😳 So he and Sirius are relatives 😮
I never noticed there was a label for prison on the little location board thing 😂.
is the narration supposed to be slow ?or do I need to change speed to 1.25?
I like it, what about the Weasleys from hogwarts legacy.
Hello
No, he's not. Some examples: the birthdays of any Weasley or the names of Bill and Fleurs children are never mentioned in the books.
And Percy?
👍👍👍
I still don't consider the cursed child as canon. It changed Ron in to an idiot and Harry in to a narcissist.
I am completely sorry for bothering anyone who is hopefully willing to enlighten me, but what exactly is the Sacred 28, I believe it was? Been a Harry Potter fan since 2002. But I guess I missed a few chapters lol.
The sacred 28 are the 28 prominent pureblood families of the UK. These families are very old and have little to none muggle influence.
I haven’t got the other books either, but it’s in this video & it seems to be a reference to the main pure blood families. A bit like Kreacher had: “Natures Nobility. A Wizarding Genealogy”
Never married....leads one to wonder if Charlie is gay. Not a judgement...just an observation. After all, Rowling is not homophobic, and Dumbledore was gay.
Ik this is a unrelated topic but what did the german ministry of magic do during hitlers reign???
My favorite Weasleys are Matilda & Ron.
The Weasleys are my most favorite ginger family. Gingers are #1
😊🎉🦁
So, is Percy's name just Percy? Is it not short for Perseus or Percival or something?
Just Percy. Dumbledore’s father was called Percival
Most interesting. What I've been wondering is how Matilda Weasley and her nephew Gareth are related to Arthur. Yeah....blame it on Hogwarts Legacy.
Where were the Weasleys extended family?
Why do Harry have financial troubles? I thought he had gold in the bank?
Huh, so in the Harry Potter universe I’m in the same age bracket as Jenny Weasley.
Your missing one kid where Charlie?
there is seven siblings not six ron ginnie fred george bill charlie and percy magical 7
Dude it says Ron has 6 siblings, which is a fact. You don’t count yourself as a sibling, Ron has 6 siblings because he isn’t his own sibling 😭.
thought the oldest weasley child was named bill, not william. ?
Bill IS and always has been short for William.
Bill is short for William and always has been.
Yall annoying… obviously he’s going on from the films and novels not the game,
I liked my own comment
i liked your comment also
Same
Ditto
I disliked mine
Your comment spoke to me.
Harry still should have named his daughter Lily Minerva Potter lol that's just disrespectful not to! Chanwills0 said it best 😂
