Many thanks, Silvio. Here are the members of the band: Shaye Cohn - Trombone; Chloe Feoranzo - Clarinet; Marla Dixon - Trumpet; Defne (Dizzy) Incirlioglu - Washboard; Julie Schexnayder - Bass; Molly Reeves - Guitar. I didn't want to start this channel, it was Roman Zlatopolsky czcams.com/users/tihtov who had persuaded me. Roman is the biggest fan of Shaye Cohn and does his best for her promotion. Well, Roman had asked me to have posted this gig for the sake of Shaye Cohn, I agreed. Since then many of the videos have been posted to my channel. Here's the article on "The Shake 'Em Up Jazz Band" playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.com/2017/02/post-480-ladies-shake-em-up-at-umbria.html
It is wonderful how Shaye involves herself and encourages other jazz bands rather than just limit herself to just Tube Skinny. She uses her talents to develop others and I guess that must lift the spirits of a developing jazz band to see her turn up to assist and contribute.
Lol. I love Tuba skinny, but the Shake em up band is better in every way in my opinion. Marla is a better horn player and can sing incredibly. Shake em up also has several good singers. Tuba skinny only has Erika when she is there. Molly is an extremely talented singer and very talented and versatile player. Tuba skinny's 2 string players add almost nothing to the band. Every member is a better musician than tuba skinny's by a big margin with possibly the exception of both band's washboard players who I would say are pretty equal. Shae has a great pedigree and is a great band leader, but the 2 bands aren't equals I think.
You folks have hit my sweet spot. I've enjoyed New Orleans jazz for 70 years, through the highs and through the lows... And you are one of the very high spots. Bravo! I love you folks.
I'm back, again, to watch this all over again. It's March of 2020 and we're all under quarantine. My gigs are canceled, so I get to watch these incredible Ladies play. It makes it bearable to be confined while this virus sends everyone else into a panic. I should be practicing but instead I'm binge watching videos of The Shake 'Em Up Jazz Band. I can Never find the right words to express how amazing these Ladies are.
I stumbled upon this video, holy crap. I love Shaye Cohn, I've never seen her play trombone. Three diva's on the front row. I've never seen Dizzy smile anymore than tonight. What glorious fun !
Shaye - OK, tp, tb, box, fiddle and ??? Wow! Don't know the tp on this one. ???? Best "all girl" band since Bria Skonberg and the Mighty Aphrodites. Saw Bria live, in person, recently - real thrill!
Shurshot 2, the trumpeter is the great Marla Dixon, who leads the Shotgun Jazz Band. They are also excellent, so if you like this you'd probably enjoy checking them out on CZcams and Bandcamp.
Great to hear an all girl group, a first for me - thank you for your music, and bringing back memories of my early days with a skiffle and small trad jazz group back in my RAF day's.😀
Hi Shevill, you speak my thoughts, these ladies are superb,I had a band (scratch) when i was in the RAF 1955/70, found many good Jazz Musicians in UK Being posted here and there made it difficult so far as continuity was concerned, However, Good Musicians abound everywhere, it's a matter of casting around the traps. Best regards.
Of all the versions of Sugar Blues I've heard,THIS is the BEST, absolutely wonderful gutsy vocal and clarinet and the rest of a top class band to back the vocal.
Big fan of Shaye Cohn (she can play everything, it seems). Love this band and the music they do. "Some day sweetheart" has such a driving bluesy swing. Love "Root Hog or Die". Great ensemble! More power to you ladies!
Watching this nearly three years later, two thoughts come to mind : 1 - I'm really happy to see this band still going strong, with nearly the same line-up; then 2- I'm knoc
.......knocked out by the sheer wealth of talent, there isn't one weak link in the chain, so to speak. Who said women can't feel jazz? These ladies could play anywhere, for any audience. And finally, like a lot of other admirers, I have to say "chapeau" to Shaye Cohn!
This is one ofthe most expressive and physical performances of Chloe's signature song. Although it's the most pop-ular numbers in Texas/Louisiana no two perform it the same. Molly Reeves does an excellent job, but it's Chloe's night. nThanks,
This female band has been established by Shaye Cohn. Unfortunately by now Shaye has left the band. You can read about it here: playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.ru/2017/02/post-480-ladies-shake-em-up-at-umbria.html You can also read about this band here: playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.ru/2017/01/post-468-all-ladies-band-at-abita.html Thank you very much for uploading this video, Alice.
Ladies of Shake' Em Up Jazz Band, if you're reading this: when I started out in the regional Trad scene, sometime late 1970s, it was almost universally male, white, and anything but enlightened. And the banter during breaks could be, pretty sexist, too, on occasion. Few in this circle thinking anything of women in jazz still confined to just vocals and being decorative, in those days. Now cue to 2018 - and some things are definitely changing. So I dearly hope that the six of you will keep Shaking 'Em Up for a long time to come. Secondly, Abita Springs 2017 was the first time I saw Shake 'Em Up perform, on CZcams. But with Shaye on trombone, in this Abita Springs 2016 registration, I'm now guessing that Haruka had not yet joined the band,. Is that correct?
Dear Alice..tks for send your vídeos...I see all...fantastic Band with Shaye playing trombone...superb ... amazing....I'm Trumpet player, Bandleader of Dixie Swingers Jazz Band from Lindoia,SP-Brazil.....is very good hear this superb Jazz...Best Regards..
Dear Alice..Tks this is my pleasure...You is a big clarinetist... Please accept my congratulations and of all my musicians Dixie Swingers Jazz Band from Lindoia, SP-Brazil.
This Hot! Love Chloe and Shaye, is there any instrument Shaye cant play, I have counted about 5, and she plays them all excellent, must run in genes lol :))
One would think the jews at the FED could throw some of that fake money they created out of their fat asses towards talented musicians like Shaye and Chloe. Some on here don't believe Chloe is as good or even better than Benny Goodman and I beg to differ. Chloe arrives at New Orleans from San Diego by way of Chicago and duels fellow saxophonist. Chloe Feoranzo and James Evans - "Bye Bye Blues" czcams.com/video/rTFXYDyBRr4/video.html
OMG! I LOVE THESE GIRLS! Such hot music, such tight musicians, everyone very talented. But I'm loving guitarist/singer Molly Reeves. She can really play that archtop! What kind is it BTW?

Interesting to compare their "Tulip" with Chris Barber's version: czcams.com/video/tseXC_NYlCg/video.html
The MC has it spot on. Tears of appreciation here. Thank you.
How am I just finding this now! AMAZING!
Shaye, you are just a "National Treasure" here on "bone". Bless you for all the enjoyment that you give to so many.....
Is there a "non-reed" axe (showing my age) she doesn't play??
@@shurshot2764 Shay could "self teach" herself to play any instrument. Possibly, she hasn't played a harp? Thank you for your reply!
One of New Orleans most talented bands and definitely the most beautiful!😄
It is wonderful how Shaye involves herself and encourages other jazz bands rather than just limit herself to just Tube Skinny. She uses her talents to develop others and I guess that must lift the spirits of a developing jazz band to see her turn up to assist and contribute.
I would say none of these women were beginners in need of a hand.
Lol. I love Tuba skinny, but the Shake em up band is better in every way in my opinion. Marla is a better horn player and can sing incredibly. Shake em up also has several good singers. A lovely glimpse inside that usually calm able clarinet player when she does "Sugar Blues" Compelling indeed. Thanks
You folks have hit my sweet spot. I've enjoyed New Orleans jazz for 70 years, through the highs and through the lows... And you are one of the very high spots. Bravo! I love you folks.

These women are incredible. Great music
Shaye Cohn playing the Trumpet, amazing. She's a great Piano player too, but the Cornet is an extension of her soul.
..except she's playing the Trombone here!
Regardless where these birds fly, they carries their own interpretations of these songs and we cain't help but love them so.

Im enjoying my evening... ty great voic.... Fantastic voices. Smiling
All the bands would be famous with a solid guitar like that. Very nice
What a surprise to see Shaye standing in for Haruka on the Trombone! This gets better and better.
At 14:24, the lady playing the clarinet is stating a point...try not to argue with her //-))
Share on the trombone--- great stuff. Great group.
I've listened to the Clyde McCoy version of "Sugar Blues" so often... didn't know there were lyrics!
Tutte bravissime......
Extraordinario. Felicitaciones. Desde Colombia
Chloe!!! I have missed her since she left Pokey Lafarges band.
Wonderful
É uma banda so de feras!
What a great band, thanks girls, you swing like a garden gate.
Fantastic xx
Талантливая гитаристка... Вспоминаю, как она по-делу подпевала чуваку, игравшему на альт-саксофоне, который пел голосом Луи Армстронга.
