homemade oven chips and roasties are lovely coated in dry couscous and you can add whatever herbs, spices etc x
Yum. Sounds lovely
Very good Jane ! When I think about inexpensive meals I think few ingredients. You put so many, and spices and flavors, too. Looks yummy !!
Thanks !
The marinade for the chicken sounds lovely! I also put lots of veg in my cottage pie and cheese in the mash. 😋
The marinade is a good one. I make it a lot. Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing Jane. I suppose eating frugally is a bit like dieting and you need to to have variety so as nor to feel deprived so it's good that you and the other ladies are helping people with this.
Totally agree, and there are so many options
Shoestring Jane you are so inspiring, you inspired me to make a cheap meal using what I already have. I made Taquitos, and Spanish rice for lunch today. I even have enough for a few leftovers. I really love today's video, thank you for the inspiration, have a lovely day.
Thank you! Your lunch sounds yummy
Oh my lunch was delicious, my husband would like me to make the taquitos more often.
Oh that all looks so YUM, Jane! Especially the Spanish chicken. I will definitely be making that. I also tend to use recipes as starting points, and add this or that as the spirit moves. Of course the olives were yummy in the chicken! And I am with you on smoked paprika. I love to hear how everyone talks while they cook, and everyone’s different personalities! Love your channel, and also your FB group! Lots of good frugal ideas there. Thank you! 💜
Thanks! Justin laughs at my improvisation as sometimes it doesn’t work. However 90% of the time it does and we learn something new
Wings looked really great. I make my own French fries (chips) because it costs less than buying frozen and I think they taste better. I love to see what everyone is cooking.
Thanks for watching. Fewer preservatives in the home made chips too
I Watched you all 4 now. How different and unic we all are👍.all of the recipes are good, healthy and frugal.
Thanks for you're ideas too
Thanks for watching us all!
Love the recipes and the collaboration with all my favs! thank you
I'm glad you enjoyed our offerings! Thanks for watching.
Hi Jane, your food looks delicious. I really enjoyed this collab, I follow all four of you. Sending warm wishes for a blessed week. 🌻
Thanks, Debbie!
I, too, have been calculating the cost of portions with my recipes. In this way I can meal plan better to fit my budget, including making choices when we want to have something more special. I have used today’s report that 1 English pound = $1.32 and here are meals I make (calculated to show English cost).
1. Chicken, potatoes and green beans in marinade in crockpot .55p per person ($.72)
2. Pea soup and chickpea bread .78 p per person ($1.03)
3. Spinach-potato quiche w/fruit salad .90 p per person ($1.19)
4. Bratwurst & Potato w/fried eggplant .93 p per person ($1.23)
5. Burrito omelet w/hash browns .70 p ($.92)
BTW, my pricebook is linked to these recipes, so as I enter the latest price, the recipe cost automatically updates.
(I think Shoestring Jane would be proud of my Nerd-dom!)
So proud! I think food is cheaper in the uk, from what my commenters have been telling me
Well I just watched frugalJo make a beautiful meal!! So now I’m here to see you do the same !
Thanks for coming over. I hope you enjoy all the videos
Very fine polenta works well as a coating on roast potatoes or homemade chips
I think that would have been nicer, for sure.
If you're growing peppers, I have a friend that recommended to save eggshells for your garden. She rinses off the shells, stores them in the fridge in a container until the container is full. When she's ready, she spreads them on a baking tray and bakes them off in the oven at 250F for about 30 minutes. Then you cool them down and grind them and spread them in your garden to help prevent blossom rot. It also helps with tomato plants. I did it last year and I saw a big difference. It was fabulous.
My dad does that! I have never tried it but perhaps I will
Those recipes all look delicious! I am adding the Spanish Chicken recipe this week.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Great blog Jane
We often have wings good cheap meat
Going to try your Spanish chicken
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it if you do
Might have 2 try a few of them . I like cheap and cheerful meals :)
Yes, do! Thanks for watching
Great ideas, thank you . My favourite is the chicken wings, I’ll be trying that recipe.
I hope you like them. Thanks for watching
Yummy .. Thank you for sharing these lovely recipes Jane..
Very economical and easy.
I'm adding these to my list..
Great collaboration with the other ladies btw. ( new subbie)
Cheers from Australia 😊
Welcome! Thanks for watching
Thank you 😊 💓
Lovely good honest food
You are a wonderful cook!
Thanks! I have hits and a few misses too 😂
Cut those tips off and put in freezer for later and make your own stock. Put all the wings in a plastic baggie and let sit in the marinade for an hour
or so, add more depth and then bake
Good idea to put them in a bag. Going to try that next time
Love this Jane! Chicken Wings are expensive in the states right now. We're seeing $3 a pound! Your recipes look delicious.
I think food is cheaper here, but not for much longer I fear. Thanks for watching
@@ShoestringJane oh, I hope you're wrong. It breaks my heart to see how prices are rising everywhere. Many people wont be able to afford basic nutrition. I have very little to complain about. Your videos have been a good resource on reducing waste and doing more with what we have. I appreciate you Jane! Have you thought about doing Patreon?
@@lilybee_ thank you, no I haven’t really, but never say never!
All these meals look delicious.
Thank you 😋
😊
If you use a plastic bag for the dry ingredients, toss the chicken in then give it a good shake. This saves your dishes. Then after removing any left over flour you can coat the wings with the sauce in the ame bag. I coat all my meat this way and its faster. I make my carrot salad also with apple cider vinegar, olive oil, parsley, 1 dessertspoon almond slivers (or crushed raw peanuts) anf 1 tblespoon of currants (or sultanas). Of course I know your cooking for a budget cook challange but I thought you may like to try another receipe. Your wings and chips look yummy.
Great idea! Your additions to the carrot salad sound delicious
I MUST try your chicken wing recipe !
I hope you like it
just put the wings in a plastic bag with the marinade and shake well -as a tip.
Good suggestion, thanks
Chicken wings are expensive here in California
Are they? Maybe they are more in demand?
Yes, they are over $3.00 A pound now here in Central NY
I'm across the pond, but I loved these recipes so I subscribed. I have no idea about oven temperatures -- I can make Google do any necessary translation. I checked a few recipes on the baked wings and found a range from 375º-425º... can you clarify?
I just did a search for a calculator and 200 C is about 390 F. It might also depend on your oven too
