TRANSLATION:
You people can watch while I'm scrubbing these floors
And I'm scrubbin' the floors while you're gawking
Maybe once ya tip me and it makes ya feel swell
In this crummy Southern town
In this crummy old hotel
But you'll never guess to who you're talkin'.
No. You couldn't ever guess to who you're talkin'.
Then one night there's a scream in the night
And you'll wonder who could that have been
And you see me kinda grinnin' while I'm scrubbin'
And you say, "What's she got to grin?"
I'll tell you.
There's a ship
The Black Freighter
With a skull on it's masthead
Will be coming in
You gentlemen can say, "Hey gal, finish them floors!
Get upstairs! What's wrong with you! Earn your keep here!
You toss me your tips
And look out to the ships
But I'm counting your heads
As I'm making the beds
Cuz there's nobody gonna sleep here, tonight
Nobody's gonna sleep here
Nobody!
Nobody!
Then one night there's a scream in the night
And you say, "Who's that kicking up a row?"
And ya see me kinda starin' out the winda
And you say, "What's she got to stare at now?"
I'll tell ya.
[ Lyrics from: www.lyricsfreak.com/n/nina+sim... ]
There's a ship
The Black Freighter
Turns around in the harbor
Shootin' guns from her bow
Now
You gentlemen can wipe off that smile off your face
Cause every building in town is a flat one
This whole frickin' place will be down to the ground
Only this cheap hotel standing up safe and sound
And you yell, "Why do they spare that one?"
Yes.
That's what you say.
"Why do they spare that one?"
All the night through, through the noise and to-do
You wonder who is that person that lives up there?
And you see me stepping out in the morning
Looking nice with a ribbon in my hair
And the ship
The Black Freighter
Runs a flag up it's masthead
And a cheer rings the air
By noontime the dock
Is a-swarmin' with men
Comin' out from the ghostly freighter
They move in the shadows
Where no one can see
And they're chainin' up people
And they're bringin' em to me
Askin' me,
"Kill them NOW, or LATER?"
Askin' ME!
"Kill them now, or later?"
Noon by the clock
And so still at the dock
You can hear a foghorn miles away
And in that quiet of death
I'll say, "Right now.
Right now!"
Then they pile up the bodies
And I'll say,
"That'll learn ya!"
And the ship
The Black Freighter
Disappears out to sea
And
On
It
Is
Me - Hudba
I sing this while I'm washing the dishes and cleaning down after last orders,it cheers me up and gives me the energy to finish my shift when it's late
Speaks German. Accompanies herself on the piano. Plays one of the best and expressive versions I've ever seen. Awesome.
nina simone cant be beaten as pirate jenny
@@lncompetentGaming No, sorry, Nina Simone is no pirate Jenny for me at all. She's great at performing her own songs, but her covers never seem to come from the heart.
I agree this is the way it was meant to be when it was written. Gott sei dank es war enlich in Deutsch und schoen gesagt auch.@@trinelangohr6661
Nina Simon's performance of this always gives me chills, so I had to check this out. Amazing.
Ich liebe diese Version! ❤
I could listen to her speak and sing in German and never get tired.
Lyric Rogers Same coming from someone eagerly learning german
She has the anger you'd expect from Jenny
Nuts but Real talent!!!! Go amanda f palmer. God bless you girl. Guy
Amanda Palmer ist einfach großartig :)
This is absolutely phantastic !!!
wow I'm impressed well done !!!
great performance
That night was the best of my life! Thank you so much Amanda!
I started playing this, and lasted only a few seconds. Some members of the audience thought they were the stars, and not Amanda Palmer. Fertig.
I completely understand the sentiment. I’ve always hated live music and recordings. There’s something about Palmer’s live music that’s completely different, because she makes her audience integral to a *performance*.
I’ve never seen her play a huge venue and because of the way she performs I don’t think she even would. They’re always small and she’s capable of creating such an intimate relationship with the audience that one may feel present just watching a recording.
I hope you try this and some of her other recordings again. It’s important to note also that she explicitly engages in dialogue with the audience before and during the beginning of a song, but they quickly quiet down until she makes it clear they should accompany her some manner, such as clapping or even laughing.
Wow your German pronunciation is really good (lol Weißbier) and I love Die Seeräuber Jenny!
Love this song. It sends shivers down my spine. So much better in the original German than the English translation.
großartige Interpretation!!!!!!
So glad to have a high quality video of this song! It's such a difficult piece. Not just a song but a one woman show. She SLEIGHS it. Or is that "SCHLACHTS" it?
I don't understand a word of German, but this just sounds like a great song.
SOO GOOOOD
Thank you thank you thank you!
superb
Haha, this is amazing.
Amanda, your German pronunciation is really good.
Ich Liebe Dich Amanda.
Evan T Ich auch!!
It was fucking geil!!!!!!!
omg wow
ich wäre auch gerne ein Weissbier!
I've seen her in cologne. Her german is really good but I mean, she lived there for some time :D.
This performance is probably one of the best performances of that song, probably on a level with Hilde Knef herself (:
song starts at 1:10
Just discovered this!
Didn't know she speaks German ♡
Mann ist die gut...

@Johnny123456789x Eisbär by Grauzone.
Is the Virus free too????
what's the song at 0.29 please?
Eisbär a song from the Swiss band Grauzone (about 1979).
lovely girls, forgive me, now I remember all........
Amanda, you're brilliant!
Wundervoll und du solltest mehr Deutsch sprechen ;)
Weißbier!
Ice Bear! 0:22
No one who speaks German could be evil!
Original of milva
Not a bad performance but she is banging the hell out of that poor keyboard.
You know what? She can probably buy another one.
She may have broken it from all that abuse - on her current tour she's using a Nord.
Naja ein bisschen übertrieben
sry aber besser als hildegard und co. es jemals hätten machen können
Deathmetal bands seem like amateurs in comparison.
