  • Super pumped about this one! Today I’m gonna be sharing the Monokei Kei V2 with y’all!
The Kei V2 is a 60/65/HHKB layout keyboard that features a screwless design and opts instead for magnets to hold the case together. These magnets are incredibly strong and have no trouble holding the top and bottom case together.
I think it’s very cool that Monokei offers the Kei V2 in just about any layout that you would want. With enough smaller customization options to make it truly feel like it’s yours.
Another Unique feature of the Kei V2 is that it uses Monokei’s own proprietary “Bluetooth Daughtboard” which is a juiced up daughterboard with some neat features that unfortunately fall kinda flat imo.
So with the Bluetooth Daughter board in theory you’re able to seamlessly switch between wired and BT modes using the buttons on the back on the keyboard next to the USB connection. In pratice I was unable to get the BT mode to work no matter what I did and actually thought my pcb may be dead because I couldn’t get the wired mode to work properly for sometime either. Hopefully with some newer firmware rhe BT mode will start working. Fingers crossed.
I eventually did though and have had no troubles since, but I wished it was a little clearer on what you had to do and that it didn’t default to BT when building the keyboard.
The keyboard is gasket mounted using these silcone gaskets that are attached to the plate. It offeres a VERY bouncy typing experience which is very pleasent to type on. The typing feel is very across the board. My experience was on the stiffer side as I opted for the aluminum plate. I also finally got to use the HMX Clouds and WOW these switches feel and sound fantastic. Overall the sound & typing feel of the board are a 9/10. Building process is rather simple minus the BTDB issues I had so I would say that Build process is 8/10.
Monokei has said that the Kei V2 will eventually be an in stock item with future collaborations for backplates and other items for the board. So I am def gonna be on the lookout for that!

What is your top and bottom case config for the kei v2?

I went Alu on both. Top is Noren Blue and bottom is white, but both are Alu.

Did you have issues about daughterboard or batter?

So the issue I had was that the BT daughterboard didn't work if trying to use BT mode. Worked fine in Wired mode tho.

Knight Stabilizers from Swagkeys! Best Screw-in Stabs imo.

Did you have any issues with the magnets on yours?

I did not have issues with the magnets on my unit, but I’ve seen that several people have. My only issue was the Bluetooth Daughterboard and the fact that it didn’t work.
