  • PL-530 and CT-F7272 also featured! Access to the pots is difficult! I show how.

I love the PL-530 I own one and it's the last I'll ever need

A channel dropping out and coming back when the volume is increased, then maybe dropping out again is a CLASSIC speaker relay issue. The contacts need to be cleaned or the relay replaced.

You're the second one to say that, so I figured I'd better be sure. I cleaned the contacts. Thanks.

And I recently posted a video on cleaning the contacts.

Love your show. No expert here but possibly a bad speaker cable???
By the way, love your tube amps, I was curious about tubes about a year ago and decided to dive in and buy a pair of Bob Latino M-125 mono blocks which I built as a kit. 125 / 65 watts per channel and bought a Frenzel preamp for it. I run a Kenwood KD-3070 through it and It comes out of a pair of Fisher XP-18's, love it. Thanks for sharing your passion, its very inspirational.

Sounds like a sweet system? What fun, huh?

And of course we'll see when I take the receiver back to my son's place. But I don't think it's a cable because the problem consistently occurred in the same range of the volume knob, and it changed to the other speaker when the cables were switched at the receiver.

if you half to turn the volume up for the sound to come back the issue is usually the speaker protection relay. they can be taken apart and cleaned if the contacts are in good shape

That's good to know in case a similar problem is recurring, but the DeoxIT seems to have fixed it.

I did go ahead and clean those contacts. And posted a video about it. ;)

@@Lancaster_Hi-Fi I watched the video it's interesting how that pioneer is constructed most receivers I've seen have that relay mounted to a board. Anyway hopefully that solves all the issues you were having with it.

Same! I was kind of horrified when my son started having problems with it!

At around 6:32 I noticed a lot of component legs just sticking out from the bottom of the board. You really should trim the legs off after soldering the component in. Those legs can easily touch each other or something else and short out your receiver.

I have a a 828 since 74 or 75. had a problem of cutting it out. Found out it was part of the power supply. Had it repaired. Question? What caused the problem ? Found out the the power to the home was inadequate. Low voltage supply..
