Chappie was far more “humane” than most of the actual humans in the movie. That's why it's touching.
Exactly, but the only people i hated is that guy who wants everything. He’s really full of shit
@@alyxrycx7862 the guy who wanted everything and the hugh Jackman are both thoroughly unlikable villains.
@pkers07 Bro, there are no laws against AI.
You don't have to normalize it to do it.
The scary bit was the robot police, but they're not even the protagonists of the story. The only robot policeman who is sympathetic was the defector Chappie.
@pkers07 The recent Azeri armenian war says that the future of warfare means whoever can manufacture or buy more/better drones will win, no matter what.
This can be extended to predict that conquered lands can be patrolled by robot police, which is terrifying. They have zero tactical value to attack, but are completely unsympathetic to the plight of the locals. Neither foreign occupier nor local collaborator.
@pkers07 Hollywood hates a movie that teaches about humanity. Bloomkamp career will be secretly oppress. His career will not bloom further. I thought he would be the next James Cameron. Since James always made a movie about humanity. The last movie that is about humanity is Alita. But who knows. Maybe a miracle would happen. No wonder his Alien supposed to be movie is not being green lit.
This movie touched me in a way in did not expect. It was surprisingly good. There were times when I was like "am I getting teary eyed over a robot?"

Don't listen to any review that shows that this movie is bad, its so great, that is the first time that a "Robot" scene touches my heart, believe me or not, this movie can break your heart with unexpected situations.
Damn I love this movie
Ahmad Jabaren i couldn't tell you how many times i was like "awww" "AWWWWWW" lol. i was choked up a lot too. so touching.
Agree 100%
Ahmad Jabaren agree!!!
Ahmad Jabaren Totally agree, don't know why buy I always like to read reviews before I see movies just to see what critics think and heard bad reviews on Chappie. However, I think Blomkamp really makes some great thought provoking movies and wasn't disappointed in this one
Ahmad Jabaren exactly what this guy said, totally bro
One of the most underrated movie in history
I cried over a robot😭
Yes.
What I thought was a shame about the movie was that more didn't happen, like the movie took place in 4 days (well, it kind of did because in the movie 7 days went by, from the time the bad guy asked Ninja and his gang to bring him 20 million dollars in 7 days to the time he comes back to take his money)
I wish they would have shown the sequel from the time Yolandi got a new body built and they get searched by the police, that would have been cool. This movie deserved a second part
The visuals are great , storyline can be heartbreaking but inspiring at the same time. The movie keeps the audience engaged all the time. Charecters are interesting and memorable. Everytime i watch it , it feels new and just like the first time I've watched it. It had a big impact on me. 10/10 i recommend to watch it.
I thought [gang dude] got shot in the balls i dont know can yall assure me that?

This movie makes you question your exsistence and it's quite emotional - believe it or not
Pygmo yes it does troll😂
Hic et nunc It made me question it no lie
Pygmo nah your good bro you’ll probably troll
Pygmo a person who starts quarrels or upsets people :/
@Pygmo don't even get me started, dude. I could talk about this movie's philosophical concepts for hours. Where do we draw the line between human and robot? Concious and unconcious? Alive and not alive? When is it ethical to segregate? Are we doing something right now that humans in the future would see as unethical?
This movie is a masterpiece

This movie is bordering on perfection no joke. Never been so pleasantly surprised by a movie in my life!
Its so refreshing and original and full of life
It’s my all time favourite despite the criticism, and I disposed it before I saw it naturally 😂
@@jakobusjohannes2195 Yeah I wanted to dismiss it on reflex, but it's no joke one of the best standalone films I've ever seen.
It only superficially resembles things like robocop.
Yep, my favorite movie ever made, watched it more than 20 times now. I work in artificial intelligence and it's so fucking scientifically accurate it hurts, I love it. It's also a perfect analogy for the process of going from bourgeoisie, to lumpenproletariat, to revolutionary, but I suspect that's not on many people's minds when they watch it ;) And the emotional grip it has on you if you accept the characters for who they really are instead of trying to say they're "weird," it's next level.
Are you guys on drugs??? This movie is fucking horrible
I'm surprised at how low a rating this movie got from critics. I absolutely adored it. There were parts that made me choke up. It displays the good and bad in humanity, and is honestly heartbreaking to an extent. Chappie is just a child, and the director did a beautiful job portraying nurture.
Five stars. I really hope there will be a second.

This movie actually made me hate Hugh Jackman.
He made an indie movie with Scarlett Johansen where he was the bad guy... it doesn't suit him very well.
Yes, but I still love him😭😭
Yeah it came out as shocking to me when he suddenly slammed Dev Patel’s character to the wall (or table?) and that’s when it’s revealed that he’s the bad guy.

Being a big movie watcher, this gave me enormous amounts of chills!! Its a South African film and being South African this gave me such pride, somehow it could be relatible for once, as it is based here, wow
That's really cool! If this film does well, perhaps more movies will come out of your beautiful country.

Yes I find your country very beautiful and so unique. I've not been there yet, but it's on my bucket list. My best friend was born in Joburg and grew up in Cape Town...the pictures I've seen of it are absolutely breathtaking.
Well District 9 was awesome and it was by the same director (also placed in South Africa) so this is looking promising.
proudly South-Africa, I will definitely support a movie produced from my country :D
Short Circuit meets Robocop. Come on.
***** Nope. But no one's paying me millions to make one either. This is total Short Circuit.
Glad I'm not the only one who got a strong 'short circuit' vibe from this. But is that a bad thing? How long has it been since short circuit?
If it's good... why not?
Really dude? The only thing similar is the fact that they have sentient robots. That's such a GENERAL aspect. Ideas are universal and things will be recycled. If it's a good story and they make it their own why not? It's really tiring to see people say stuff like "omg wow so similar to this it's basically it, no more making things because it's not original".
The moment Chappie spoke, I thought the same thing: "Short Circuit".
***** It's not just the concept. It's the things he says, hell, even his voice. And he's put up against the "bad" robots. It's close. Identical, no, but close enough that I don't feel like I'm going to get anything new out of it.
"From the director of District 9" That makes me watch this movie.

Great movie. It has one gory scene in it. Alot of fire arm violence, but it's stuff that we are used to. It's better shot than Elysium. And it doesn't go for a documentary look like District 9.
Chappie himself is EXTREMELY likable.
The other characters are somewhat annoying. Hugh Jackman starts off great as a bully. But then, later on the movie he comes off as a Jesus freak. He literally calls Chappie a godless whatever.
It irked me alot. And I'm not even a Christian. Visual effects are great. Hans Zimmer sound Track complements the movie. The end is very wishy-washy. It's a 2 hour long movie . I guess it just needed to end. Compared to Blomkamps previous films, this movie is more uplifting.
For Americans, those south African accents are going to sound really weird. Hopefully, this will be Blomkamps final south African, dystopian - future movie. Because it's safe to say he has exhausted his visual bag of tricks. I still think he has a good eye for visual effects. I wouldn't mind a Halo movie or a transformers movie from him.
Also, he is not much of a writer. His movies will benefit from working with a writer like Alex Garland.
4 out of 5.
John Noble The gory scene made me feel disappointed when Chappie didn't break more bones in Jackman's character's body.
John Noble Great review, only thing i'd add is the actress who played the blonde "Mummy" character was rather dull, not fond of her

The scene where they throw molotove on him was really heartbreaking. Coz if you think deeply, chappie was just a little kid at that moment and didn't deserve all that negativity and trauma. I was literally crying at that moment.
chappie is my favorite movie because of the character
Who gives anyone the right to kill innocent sentient life? Just because the robot was made 'artificially' or out of metal does not mean that it's an abomination marked for death.
Seriously. Women create life all the time. In the womb. Us humans are basically really complicated machines as well, only our components are based down to the molecular level compared to the macro level of a mechanical robot. Carbon or alloy, this is something that displays the charcteristics of life.
What are the characteristics of life? Cells, levels of organization, uses energy, responds to surroundings, growth, and reproduction. (Anyone who says that all life must be made of carbon is shallow minded)
-A robot can be viewed as a giant cell. It carries all functions it needs to survive in one package. Without its servos, it's an immobile mess and cannot survive.
-Each of its component are a level of organization. Whether that be locomotion, mental processing, sensory systems, anything.
-They require an input of energy to operate. Pretty much anything that moves need this.
-They can and will respond to stimuli.
-They don't technically have a meants for physical growth but that does not mean that mental growth can be counted out as well.
-And just because they don't have a self cotained means of reproducing does not atuomatically state that they can't simply build another one of their kind.
What pisses me off is how antagonist humans in stories like these are way too shallow minded to look past the metal and wire and into the consciousness that is really what makes people... people! Note how I said 'people' and 'human'. 'People' is a concept. 'Human' is a species.
Any don't you dare throw in something along the lines of "against god's will".
I want morality reasons by the individual and not by a deity.
***** But is a sentient robot's very existence a threat? Or is it the cliche fear of the different and unknown? Is it like racism where the fear is unreasonable?
There is a saying: Monsters are not born, they are made.
Going by that, then every single person is a threat. Give enough resources to a person and things will go boom. That, I can agree is inevitable.
Fack, it's like SkyNet all over again.
Its a fucking story, calm down
***** 1. Atlantis is a fable by Plato, it never existed. 2. Planets don't decide anything except your future if your gullible and read horoscopes. You really buy into all the Misanthropic crap you see in the cinema don't you. This is a fantastic movie. Touching and with a good sense of humor at the same time. I love it.

1 2 What for? For having an opinion? Hahaha. At least be happy that I said IMO and not classified it as a fact.
This is a fucking incredible movie, 11/10 for sure.
2019 de Octubre 8 y aún sigo esperando Chappie 2
FANTON X tuvo un final nut solido y definitivo no creo que tengamos otra 🤧😢
Dude its a robot with a soul, and he's so innocent love the thing.
Funny how you get real news "reporters" doing acting. No different from their day job huh.
Anderson Cooper has been pretending to be straight for years.
blueboi05 Uh, no he hasn't. He's openly gay and has a boyfriend.
who cares if he's gay or not. the point is he's acting. Just like almost all reporters do these days, they don't give a shit, at least not enough of one to be a real human being.
saiyaniam They do care. They just can't show real emotions because real emotions don't fit the 24-hour news cycle and real emotions don't make money. It's as simple as that. Yet another thing capitalism has ruined time and time again (see Yellow Journalism).
wizardsbane Thats totally untrue, the whole reason alternate news has become so big is because is real emotion.
Alex jones is huge, insane, but huge because of his raw feelings, cenk uygur showed real emotions at msnbc, he got their highest ratings because of it, but he was told to stop being real and follow the program. He quit because of that censorship. People want real emotions. It makes money, but real emotions don't serve the status quo.
Loved this movie but I really want Blomkamp to make the sequel to District 9.
What would he call it XD District 9 2
Toxic TV Probably District 10.
Brian Griffin nah, they'd probably call it District 9 and an under title.
Brian Griffin Well, in the end of the movie, they said that district 9 was demolished and moved to District 10.
Yesterday I watch this movie . Seriously this is my favorite movie.. sad,angry,funny.. I love Chappie. I hope have a Chappie 2 .. rating 10/10
Johnny 5 is alive
Chappie is alive
You alive
we are alive
Just finished watching the movie. I must say I never expected it to escalate to an utter work of art. Not many movies can bogle my mind, but this... Did just that!
One of my favorite movies of all times... I'm actually thinking of getting a chappie tattoo on my leg
This story goes deeper, if you really think about it. People’s childhoods for real. Like the scene where Chappie is playing with a barbie doll, some sons get riducled by their parents for playing with girly toys. And the toxic masculinity, etc.
0:21 This is the dumbest thing a naive scientist could do. You effectively create a new class, a class below the proletariat with a potential above any living organism. WTF do they think is going to happen if class struggle begins?
You want Terminator or Matrix? Cuz this is how you get Terminatored and Matrixed.
You want to love, care for and teach a newborn mind? Make a fucking baby; machines should stay insentient slaves.
I hope Neill Blomkamp has delved much deeper into this than this trailer shows, hope the sci-fi action don't overtake the message.
I'm actually with the bad guys this time, no matter at what cost. Stupid Slumdog Millionare and his genius ideas -_-
BTW wtf is Die antwoord.......DAT antwoord.
Edit - BTW for clarification, the subject is not the movie. So random people.....please!!!
Keep getting brainwashed by those Terminator movies homeboy
benandreas369 Brainwashed? It's the logical path of how things will turn out. Make a human being, you will get a human being. And what do humans do?
Dinglie Danglie Doodle dingaling is right robots are not friendly my fucking asus sucks dick!
well actually the difference is this robot has to learn and develop like a child and children aren't just enslaving their parents now in matrix and terminator they were just instantly intelligent and saw people as obstacles or problems but to form and channel the robots behavior and personality such as Chappie would cause something closer to a human and yes some humans are good and some are bad but it wouldn't be a terminator/matrix situation and "proletariat"? whats with that lol just curious
thats why he also said feel, a machine that can think for itself will most likely be a problem but a machine that can feel emotions like sympathy might be different
Still blew my mind when i knew that Die Antwoord would be in this film. I love Neil Blomkamp and his films.
One word...
*Underrated*
This movie had been my favorite. it was awesome movie of all time, for me in my times of high school .we had a Sunday movie day on every weekend 🍕🏠🎉 during my hostel times.
