This song is actually in reference to a Ray Bradbury story. So it literally is about a man in a rocket going to Mars. But the drug metaphor works equally well, and anyone who says otherwise doesn't get rock n roll in the slightest.

Relatively speaking it is high quality. I have a dvd of this concert and it was transferred from a 10th generation VHS tape - it looks as bad as you'd expect it to. I've never been able to locate a version as good as this video. I'd pay big money for a clean copy of the entire concert that looks as good as this clip.
