    good video Mr Rick . I want too save you time. after you take the wheel off stick a strong 💪 love of metal between the rotor cooling fins and let it lock up at the caliper support . and man you can hammer at .you can lossen up 80% of the fasterns at one time including c.v nut .I've done it like this for years and never damage nothing else.but if you have a stubborn c.v nut .with wheel on and tire remove center cap and break it first.God bless you . Well done Rick. I would drop the front diff oil and see what it looks like and if its good I would refill with synthetic gear oil and drive on. I can see why you would not want to tear into it again.

    I've watched most of your repair videos, and I'm impressed with not only how nicely your tahoe has held up and how good of care you take care of it. I have an 02 z71 suburban and I know where to come to watch videos if I need help. Btw how's that transfer case you built holding up?

    • @RICKAFIX
      @RICKAFIX  Před 9 lety

      Hey Mitchell sorry this was put in spam...transfer case is holding up great I went out to the east coast for a project and so far no problems...thanks for watching

    great video but on a 2007 z71 Tahoe
    you need to take off the shock! in order, for the cv axle to come properly.
    its a not that difficult but alot of force is needed to break the cv axle free. The crowbar didn't help so make sure that you have someone in the car applying the brakes and holding the stirring wheel. while you break free the cv axle lug and then the 6 bolts in side.

    Bad news: you got wrong parts from store. Good news: not only did I save by switching to Geico, I also thumbed up your video and subscribed!!! lol Thanks for the great/clear video. You saved me a bunch of time because I was thinking to remove tie rods also. Hope I don't snap my stabilizer bar as my undercarrige is russ-tee! I tried to change my upper/lower ball joints but the darn bolts were so rusty they were stripping! Also, my outter tie rod ends were on SOOO darn tight. I lowered my head and took $800 to NTB. (sad face) at least they gave me a discount for having my own parts. I'm still going to install my axle this weekend. Waiting for the weather to warm up a bit. Keep making the good quality videos! The other guys give me vertigo!

    Great video, my question is, if you took off the CV axle and it's still making the noise wouldn't that mean it's something in with the axle shaft going into the front "diff" ? I have a similar situation that's why I'm asking

  • @elnoodles13

    Which side do you change when turning left makes noise?
    Some say left others right.

      if one goes the other will follow just replace both, since you will have all the tools there wont be a big deal

    Might sound stupid but swap the tires around see if the noise moves.. If it is the diff try an oil change in it and put in some good oil.. Keep us updated man !!

  • @lazaruslong1971

    Great video. Just finished mine thanks for the instruction. The only thing I did differently was to remove the shock instead of the stabilizing bar as mine was not nice and straight like yours but cocked at an impossible angle to get the nut removed.... thinking that might also be a problem in itself?? Easier job than I expected but now have to do the exact same job on a BMW X5 and its looking a little more challenging :-O
    What are the odds of both of my cars having the same failure at the exact same time?
    Thanks Again!

    • @lazaruslong1971
      @lazaruslong1971 Před 8 lety

      The hub was clean and showed no corrosion at all and slid out and back in very easily. Just applied a thin film of grease and it went back in almost too easily.

    Thanks Rick. Your how to video showed me how to swap out my bad CV axle on my 96 GMC Sierra. My axle costed 70 from Advance auto but, that's great compared to the 200-250 the local garage wanted. Thanks again!

    • @RICKAFIX
      @RICKAFIX  Před 7 lety

      +richard byram nope I didnt..could be the hub I have a video on replacing that...try putting a synthetic oil in first..usually is the carrier bearing that goes on the front diff

    @stuzman52 Před 10 lety +3

    Very professional job Rick and your luck sounds like mine where the older vehicles are just falling apart. Man, I feel for you on the diff noise. You probably got a bearing going out on that driver side. Oh yeah, I can say that if you have to go back to those axles years later, it won't be seized and rusted up because of the little grease that you put on the splines. Once again, nice work Rick and stay warm up there!

    • @RICKAFIX
      @RICKAFIX  Před 8 lety

      yes I did..I am all over the states now.. so I had it done..I bought the parts 100+ and the labor was around 400 wish I did it myself but I just don't have the time...it was just making a that sound no other problems but I have 241,000 miles on it so I figured I would just do it as preventative maintenance

    That's an amazing price, it's hard to see how they can make those for that. Is there a core return for your original?

    • @RICKAFIX
      @RICKAFIX  Před 10 lety

      yes there is a $10.00 core charge so 50 for one. I think i am going to get one with the right splines and throw it in the passenger side for that price its worth it.. all the parts stores here you buy it online get anywhere from 10 -20% off and go pick it up in the store

    Dude, you need to replace the axle bearing on the transfer case..... You almost hade it but you put it !!! damn. not much more work and you would have fixed it with a new bearing.

    • @RICKAFIX
      @RICKAFIX  Před 7 lety

      it was the carrier bearing...can you replace the axle bearing without taking it apart?

    • @cbo6034
      @cbo6034 Před 7 lety

      A lot of GM trucks have this problem.. "HardHeadedCustoms" on youtube left axle bearing and seal replacement on a GM 8.25 IFS differential. I had to change it in my Z71

    • @aronscribner9544
      @aronscribner9544 Před 7 lety

      It was the carrier bearing in the front differential? My truck is making the same noise it's progressively getting worse. Driving me crazy lol

    • @cameronklawitter7281
      @cameronklawitter7281 Před 5 lety

      Ay my axel is broken can I just take the nut off and pound it through it's only connected to the wheel and I don't have the key to the lugs I'd just go to AutoZone and borrow the tool and pound it out with a hammer in the parking lot but idk if I can or should do that I'm not trying to take anything else off or I could use a steel cord to hold the axel on the frame so it don't swing around
