I agree! I hate seeing influencers do their Christmas hauls and it’s thousands upon thousands of dollars in presents. It so easy to feel shit about yourself when you see it.

I can't afgord normal stuff let alone designer but I love watching people unpack ghem cause I get a second hand experience at least and I'm happy for them. People need to learn to be contented and grateful for what they have and happy for other people for what they have. The world would be a much better plave and they'll get soany blessings this way

I feel like my mother had that cookie jar at some point. We never put cookies in our cookie jar because didn't feel like it kept them fresh but she would put tea bags in there.
All I got was a blanket lol but hearing my squeaky excited 3 year old screaming “mommy! Wake up! Santa came to see me!” Was the best gift I could have gotten

Mia, I worked in a bakery and made buttercream all the time. (so much powdered sugar to keep from getting everywhere 😜) While I worked there, I was given the tip to wet a tea towel and drape it over the mixer while the powdered sugar mixed in. The moisture of the towel helps the sugar dust cling to the rag even after you take it off so less of it ends up shaking off like if the towel was dry.
Additionally, it significantly minimizes the sugar or flour "cloud" resulting in less clean up.
It was a great tip that I still use, I hope it's a help to your baking endeavors too!
January 2022 brought both the greatest joy and greatest heartbreak. My niece was born at the beginning of the month and my person passed towards the end of the month. Fittingly my favorite gifts relate to each of these people. For my niece, I bought her the rest of a book series I'd bought for her throughout her first year (and maybe got carried away since I've purchased her 100 books last year from 0-5 year age range 😅). My favorite gift I received was from one of my best friends. As I mentioned, I lost my person this year (2022). He and I used to collect Funko pops. My friend ordered me a customized Funko pop that looks just like him and it 100% made me cry. It was such an incredibly thoughtful gift that I will forever cherish.

Best gift I gave was some earrings to my mum. She can't wear regular ones anymore because so I got her clip on hoops (because she always mentioned how that was her thing in HS) and she's already messaged me twice after Christmas thanking me. I'm really glad it made her so happy

My absolutely favorite gift came from my youngest stepdaughter. She is going off to college in the fall and gave me a coffee mug from her school with Mom on it. I almost cried it meant so much to me. It must have been the year for sentimental gifts because I spent most of last year hand writing recipe cards for all three of my stepdaughters and compiled them into books for them. I had my husband write one, his mom and his sister too. His sister even photocopied a recipe her late husband had written out, he passed away almost 18 years ago. I also told their mom so she, her mom and her sister could add to the books.

SN- The adorable Mama duck cookie jar is an antique. For as far back as I can remember, my mama's kitchen decor theme was ducks and she had the Mama Duck cookie jar and 2 smaller ducks that she used for flour and sugar.
I wish I knew Mia personally because we clean out homes of hoarders, people who have passed or homes that have been abandoned and the last house I did.. the WHOLE KITCHEN was decorated in ducks with bonnets. Even the wallpaper… the rest of the house was extremely grandma. She would have loved it. 😢

I love how excited you were to get these gifts and how realistic/practical they were. I really don't like those Christmas hauls where its just them getting all designer stuff that no average person is getting, but these feel so much more you and it feels like your family was really able to encapsulate that. The favorite gift I got was this puffy jacket from Target that I specifically asked for by sending them the sku lol they just know me so well 😭. And the favorite gift I got was a mortar and pestle for my mom. Back in September, we were watching a cooking show together and she casually mentioned that she'd love to have a mortar and pestle, so I put that in my back pocket and got it for her for Christmas even though it wasn't on the list and she LOVED it. but i feel bad for any amazon delivery person who saw this small box and thought it was gonna be light, just to discover it was 15 lbs lol

I actually saw Princess Diana’s wedding gown and shoes at an exhibit in Cincinnati, OH a few years ago. The whole exhibit was TOTALLY amazing but seeing the wedding gown / shoes had to be the cherry on top!!! At first, when my sister in law asked me to go, I was hesitant. Soooo glad that I was able to see it and be a part of her history. ABSOLUTELY no regrets!!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Great gifts that were clearly picked out specifically for you. I love that! The favorite gift I gave my parents was a picture of our family that was taken on their 50th wedding anniversary in March, put into an acrylic shaker block that has red confetti hearts in it. It's extra meaningful as we recently found out my mom has terminal cancer and may not make it to next Christmas 🥺.

Favourite gift I gave was a refurbished wagon we fixed up for my one year old. We painted it bright orange (his favourite colour), replaced all the hardware and got sled attachments so we can use it in the winter too. My best gift was seeing him come out Christmas morning and head straight to it. :) So precious.

So Ms Mia, as soon as I saw the picture for this video I clicked on it because I had a duck/swan/goose themed kitchen when I was a newlywed back in 1984. I had curtains, tea towels, utensil holder etc. Thanks for the walk down memory lawn. Also, one year my sisters and I each got a stuffed bear wearing an apron that says, "loves to shop, forced to cook" from our Dad. The thought of my Dad buying these bears always makes me smile. (I still have my bear sitting on my dresser).

I got a lot off home goods for Christmas and I couldn't be happier! I got a new dish set, airtight food storage, and a new vacuum for all my hair! My mom also got me and my boyfriend new pots and pans 🥰

The themed thrifted items are a good idea! I should see if my family would be interested in doing that next year. As for the favorite thing I gifted, I made my sister and brother-in-law four ceramic pho bowls (I have a pottery studio in my basement) since they never have big enough bowls for when his mom makes pho.

The favorite gift I gave was a vintage carousel horse music box. I thrifted it, took it appart, cleaned and oiled it, and repainted the horse! When it was finished it was reassembled it was GORGEOUS!

I’ll give you two favourites! One thing I’d asked for that my sisters got me: a large set of air tight clear canisters with chalk labels so I can finally organize my very messy pantry! I haven’t started tackling that project yet, but I’m super excited! My favourite that I gave was a wearable blanket for my niece. She loves blankets, but she has a ton of them (yet still asked for more, haha). So I got her one she can wear. She LOVED it!

The gift that I was most excited to give was probably the diamond ring I gave my daughter. I worked in the jewelry department for awhile in my early 20s and saw a beautiful flower ring labeled as a promise ring. It caught my eye every day and I would always think to myself how it would make a great ring to give to a daughter some day so eventually I bought it. Years pass and this year while searching for something to gift to my daughter I remember the ring and how convinced I was that I needed to buy that ring. It had sat in my jewelry box all these years, still with the original tag on it, just waiting for me to give it to her. She has such a smile on her face when she opened that gift. I'll never forget it.

My favorite thing that I got this year was probably a new wallet. I've been obsessed with Harry Potter since I was a kid, and my sister got me a Vera Bradley mini purse/wallet (despite me saying to keep things inexpensive) and I absolutely love it. Favorite gift I gave was a custom order from Camilla Creations (she has a TikTok channel) of a custom wood piece with painted irises and hydrangeas with my mom's song for her mom (a tribute as my grandma died almost 20 years ago). Overall it was a great Christmas! :)

My husband got me hand dyed yarn from Sweden which was so beautiful and thought. I’m crocheting a very intricate headband/earwarmer with it.
My favorite gift I gave was a handmade cardigan for my almost 3 year old niece with strawberries on it that she was so unbelievably excited about that she had her grandma help her put it on and ran up to me and gave me the biggest hug. 😊

one of the best gifts i got was from my dad. he got me a set of crochet hooks, its this lovely wooden handle with interchangeable clear plastic hooks in diff sizes and it has a light u can turn on that shines thru the hooks so u can see ur work better!!! its been so handy when i want to watch a movie + crochet, i can have nice dim lighting and still see what im doing :))
My favorite gift that I gave this year was a baby blanket I crocheted for my 6month old nephew. It was so fun to make and he is just the sweetest. 💕

The ceramic finds are on brand for your taste. What do you think of maybe using the little casserole dish for containing your remotes like in your living room? The cookie jar could be holding bath bombs or I dk, feminine products in the restroom. The cupcake/or ice cream set might be a sweet way to have cute apothecary jars. Cotton rounds, dental floss picks, cotton swabs, that sort of thing.

My nana has a huge obsession with those ceramic ducks. She’s had them for decades. The set consists of plates, cups, jars, even cutlery that matches.
I asked if I could have first dibs if she ever wants to part with them, but why would she. She has that exact mother goos jar! I screamed when I saw you hold it up! Love! The set brings back my childhood and I will have them.. one day I will own them!

My favorite gifts I gave were for my nieces and nephews! I crocheted something for each of them.
-A Gecko from PJ Masks mask for the nephew who loves superheroes.
-A cat plush for the niece who loves cats (but her mom is allergic).
-A stuffed car (complete with wheels that actually turn!) for the nephew who loves cars but isn't allowed to take hard ones to bed.
-And lastly an outfit for my niece's favorite stuffed rabbit, including a crocheted sweater and a simple pair of shorts with an elastic waistband that I sewed with my machine that I'm learning how to use! The fabric had little bunnies on it, too.

My favorite gift was actually a collection of things, I got three mushroom themed items and I love them all. Two mushroom mugs and a beautiful little journal with mushrooms on the cover. I also got my first Squishmallow and wow it's life changing. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive 💛
I didn’t know Archie comics were so popular now. I’m 66 and when I was an adolescent, my sister and I would go to the second hand book store during summer holidays and buy all the Archie comics. Then after we read them we would go back to exchange them for ones we hadn’t read. A memory I’ll never forget.❤. Yes even a grandma watches this channel and loves it.
I love how Mia gets excited with all the kitchen stuff XD. I would love those too but actually I can't even put out my handmade glasses because they are thick and "heavy" and my mom will torture us complaining about it (if she doesn't end up breaking it "accidentally" of course). My mom is such a pain that we can't have anything pretty that lasts longer than a year (she will purposely or accidentally break everything) so a lot of the stuff we have are plastic or inox.
Why does she purposely break it? How strange!
The best present that we gave was honestly give and received were the ornaments my 9 & 4 yr old made for the family. Spending time with my babies and seeing the family so happy and gushing over the ornaments was fulfilling

My favorite item I got this year was aesthetically pleasing pastel inline roller skates with matching protective gear and a WHITE gloss helmet, I am frickin obsessed.
I'm not sure if other countries do this but in Australia, we have Boxing Day on the 26th of December and the majority of stores have huge sales like HUGE sales and I got a pair of white platform sock boots with a gift card I got for Christmas and when I say it was the best purchase, I have ever made I mean it like they are SO FRICKIN GORGEOUS.

Favorite item I gave: I purchased a laser cnc in May of this year and engraved a drink recipe from my great, great grandparents that they would drink before the holidays every year onto a charcuterie board. And on the other side I engraved my great, great grandma's last words to my mom.
Grandma passed away at 101, so we both have very fond memories of her.
