- 20 years ago, Patrick Bernard was able to live and vibrate to the rhythms of the Zéliangrong tribes during a large clandestine expedition to the heart of the forbidden states of North East India.

He was then impressed by the strength of Heraka culture, which was taught to him by the queen of the Zéliangrong, Rani Gandiliu. She was able, by reforming the animist culture of the Nagas, feared headhunters, to allow the Zemi tribes to escape the destructive consequences of external influences.
It is both the rich heritage of traditions, the rituals, dances and songs during weddings and other festivities that this film aims to introduce us to.

I cried watching your documentary. It has been almost 90 years since Rani Gaidinliu left the village of Laisong. “The battle of Hangrum” 1932, has long forgotten in the annals of Indian history where seven Zemi fighters were martyred fighting against the Britishers. The void left behind by the absence of Rani Gaidinliu was filled up by the arrival of Ursula Graham Bower, renowned British anthropologist, in 1939. While the Britishers imprisoned Rani Gaidinliu in Shillong jail, Ursula Graham stayed behind in laisong village for eight years till 1946 documenting the life of Laisong villagers. She was regarded as the reincarnation of Rani Gaidinliu in her absence.
Even after 75 years of India’s Independence, the Zeme people of north Cachars hills remain neglected both by Assam state govt and the Indian central govt. Haipou Jadonang and Haipei Rani Gaidinliu were long gone, however the memories left behind by them are still visible in the minds of this villagers.
This village will always remain a historic place for Zeliangrongpui unity and their resistance against the mighty british empire when majority of Indians were dancing to the tune of the British rule during those days..
All Zeliangrongpui people must visit such historical places and come together to protect such pristine historical places. God bless Laisong people…

North east India Comprises of Seven Sisters State in each State there are many tribes living close in each other❤these people preserved their culture and tradition although most of these people are illiterate but i love it atleast they live very united with pride❤❤❤🇨🇦🇵🇭

Naga people have close similarity to the Igorots of the Philippines. As an Igorot myself, I can't deny how the adornments, skulls of carabaos put in display, the practice of headhunting way back then and the woven attires are somehow similar to Igorot culture.
@@kiskis4376 we were part of the Bai Yue hundred tribes from taiwan coast to central yunnan around 5000 kya. From there we were seperated and migrated to different regions on our own ways searching for good pasture and agricultural lands. The hundred tribes of yunnan consist of Qi-Qiang group, Bai Yue group & Bai Pu group somewhere around 7000 BC to 3000BC. We all came from y Haplogroup O3e/O2 M122 around 10000 years ago.
I live thru those years 50’s and 60’s maybe early 70’s before I left. We have dormitories for young unmarried ladies called olog; young men sleep in the ato. We do the gongs and chanting during festivals celebrations. Chanting is a singing ritual during death services. We use flutes as musical instruments. On marriage wedding celebrations especially rich families, they will butcher waterbufalos and those horns will be displayed in their homes.During times of difficulties such as extreme drought we go to the mountains to pray for rain. Thier are very facial similarities. There are many commonalities I can’t mention them all; but there’s a museum in Bontoc that captures the old photos depicting the life and culture of Igorots.
