    Very nice video! I can see why Genie sent you a this motor. You had a MyQ hub on their 2028. Not a cardinal sin, but it's smart on Genie's part to promote Aladdin Connect. I love installing these motors. In fact I just a did a versus video between this motor and the LiftMaster 8500W. I'm curious if you have had experience with the LiftMaster product. I prefer Genie's motor. But the MyQ wifi does have some advantages. Your thoughts?

    Im reaching out for my issue. We have this unit, but it hasn't closed smoothly. On Sunday the right side, the same side the only spring is on was higher than the left, and we had a jam, and the take up wires on both sides, unspooled. The tech I called reccommended dual springs that makes total sense. No the door opens smoithly, without hesitation and more importantly, it ipens evenly. I feel it needs dual springs, not one on one side. Any input from you techs?

    Well, this garage door comes with all the bell and whistles of a modern day device (wifi, app, Alexa, 3D installation app). It is as easy as it gets when it comes to installing a garage door opener if you're a handy man but I would hire a professional if you're not a handy man. The problem with this Genie is that the manual and even installation app lack the details and did not emphasis important points before installation. A nice big yellow bold note "BEFORE YOU INSTALL" Points would be nice.
    Here comes the con:
    1. You must install EVERYTHING including the ground sensor for the opener to work or it WILL NOT work. I tried to test the unit before mounting on the ceiling and it would not work.
    2. You MUST program the close and open distance before using the wall mount controller. After the programing, do a complete open and close run for the motor to test the tension of your garage door.
    3. The Plastic UP/DOWN/PROGRAM button are horrible and cheap. My PROGRAM button would not click due to the a defect plastic button. I had to remove the shell where the real buttons are and program from there. It's easier to do it with the shell off.
    It took me and another person 2 days (6 hours day) to install this due to the lack of details in the manual and the lack of important emphasis points in the manual.

    Coming from a door tech, these operators are awesome if your door runs perfectly. If your door doesn’t run perfectly or have the horizontal guide raised slightly then these operators are going to give you a lot of issues.

    • @fernandopenah
      @fernandopenah Před 3 lety

      Yeah makes sense when the motor is only pulling from one side of the door. Makes you wonder why they haven’t come out with a tandem setup with a motor on each side. Cost I guess.

    • @samuelletkeman
      @samuelletkeman Před 3 lety +2

      @@fernandopenah I see what you're saying but it actually wouldn't make a difference if there were motors rotating the shaft on both sides or not. When you install an operator like this on your door then you have to trust that gravity is going to pull the door down after it's been raised to it's too limit. These operators rely on there being constant tension on the cables

There is some subscription thing you can add on now, but I dont need another subscription in my life, so to get it to work with google home I had to use IFTTT and a bunch of messing around to get it to work. I don't even know if I could replicate it again if my life depended on it. I want something that just natively works without a subscription.
