As someone who left it 8 years ago, I have zero thoughts of going back to it anymore. The only thoughts I have are of how stupid I was for getting myself into that vicious circle in the first. Rob, you did it again; brilliant interview with a wonderfully honest man and you led him to some painful places in his life.
    Just like you did with the amazing Paul Gascgoine. You make this old bloke teary often in your interviews!
    Thank you for your many interviews and giving these wonderful people all the time they need to answer questions.
    You have a skill there.
    After so many interviews you should be!
    There are many tragic stories among the past generations of football players and other sports stars. I bet you would have got a great interview with the likes of Alex Higgins and George Best (among others).
    I know you have some opinions about mental health (despite your own dad’s bipolar) that I don’t totally agree with, but when you ask leading questions and let the guest open up you do it without judgement and with the respect they deserve.
    Keep it up Rob.

    Keep drinking/ gambling and if your a addict and you continue to drink/gamble then you will eventually rob and worse.
    Excuse my grammar

  • @elijaprice
    @elijaprice Před 13 dny

    It's very interesting what he says about gambling being different, how with drinking or smoking, you just have to NOT put that thing in your body. I have been a smoker and a boozer, but never a gambler, and I can see that's an interesting way to look at it - with drinking for example, you know that you just have to get through today without drinking alcohol. It's that simple, just don't put that thing in your body. But gambling..........where does it start? Where does it stop? You're not doing anything to yourself physically. If you're addicted, the only thing that could get you to stop, is if you have no money left. Not a good system for a successful life, that you're only free if you're permanently penniless.

      Matt Le Tissier spoke an inconvenient truth.
      It's a pity to hear Paul Merson defend the sharing of opinions, only to advocate censorship if your views aren't shared by powers-that-be and mainstream media.
      But I still like Merse regardless. Nice bloke. Great player. Plus he has that insider knowledge of the game that he can clearly still utilise in-spite of his dyslexia.
      His stance on being prepared to reject vast (albeit hypothetical) sums for promoting gambling corporations was pretty refreshing to hear.

Please, please, please do some bloody research and In time you might realise 'your friend' was only trying to make you aware of evils at play.

    Myself being a gambling addict for 28 years even if you recover which is rare, living with the shame of it and the normality of life is a huge challenge. But it's better than the highs and lows of being addicted. Time eventually will heal gradually over time if you stay the course of recovery. Just don't quit quitting and refuse to die what ever happens. Keep trying folks til you suceed.
