Randy Blythe (vocalist) lost his faith when his wife had a miscarriage followed by dying in a car wreck to a drunk driver. As for the others, I'm not sure if any of them were ever religious, but I'm pretty sure Mark Morton is Jewish these days. I could be wrong on that, but that's what I've heard.

Their early stuff (Burn The Priest and New American Gospel as two examples) is much closer to death metal, but that influence is still prevalent on this album. And as much as I hate to admit it, metalcore is an actual genre. I don't see Lamb of God being one (breakdowns in their music aside) and for one thing most metalcore bands are generally not great. Only exception I know of Shadows Fall, and I don't know much of their stuff anyway.
