Fine Actors (mostly) as Henry VIII, but for me Keith Michell stands head and shoulders above all. A magnificent, nuanced performance.
Keith Mitchell is the ultimate Henry. I will say Charles Laughton looks strikingly like the portrait though wow
Jonathan might not look alike as the real one but he definetly played the role perfectly

I think watch a Keith Michell’s version.
However I think we often think the actor we first see in the role portrays him the best. That maybe why I favour Keith Michell, but Keith Michell really did portray so many different sides the man.
Kind of eerie how much Charles Laughton looks like the portraits of Henry.
JRM will always be my favorite.
I liked Ruairi O’Connor the best. He's the one who mostly resembles Henry at that stage

Sure, he looks nothing like Henry, but I think Jonathan Rhys Meyers nailed the personality and character of Henry. Damian Lewis does a wonderful job too. Those two are my favourites.

Henry was 28 stone and his leg stank at the end he looked like Charles Laughton the best is the actor in the film in Keith Mitchell 1972 & Damien Lewis in wolf Hall . I can’t believe the amount of people who support JRM just because that’s how ppl would want him to look like . To be honest enough of them , there is so much more history & the constant films about Henry v111 it’s is getting ludicrous. I was brought up in Sussex in a school with pictures of him yet the Tudor Lineage was so thin the Plantagenets had a much stronger claimHad enough of this king . Or at least make a film with Real facts , he put to death 70,000 people by burning alive , hung drawn . He was a tyrant who ran shot through England . Pilgrim of grace he promised to listen to them us the ppl of this realm yet he hanged them . He bankrupted England with Perpetual warfare he was so fat at the last war with France that he had to be carried he certainly didn’t walk along as they show it in the ridiculous series the Tudors . He was constantly paranoid due to his thin line to the throne , Henry v11 his father used Catherine of Arogan for her much stronger lineage , both her parents were from royal & constantly on campaign , she was bequeathed to Arthur, Henry older brother who died . And the Boleyn sisters is just ludicrous
Thing is, JRM captured Henry VIII's complexities and his character was more fleshed out in the show. But yeah, he didn't look anything like the real Henry VIII lol
