As Nevile and others show. They can win or use wands owned by others, gifted or won in conquest.
Plus hogwarts hands Tom Riddle a fund to purchase his needed items. They are not always ernough for new but ernough for the basics you require.
There not as powerful, atuned or successful but they work. It's like a off the peg suit will still look ok but never match one tailored to you in the case of a wand that you did not choose however.

I actually had a thought about this recently. Fawkes and phoenixes, in general, are meant to be symbols of healing and rebirth, not necessarily the concept of 'good', and when you think of the fact that the wand chooses the wizard, you can see why two wands with phoenix core would choose two abused little boys. Both abused, both raised in the muggle world, and both given the chance to be reborn into the wizarding one.
More often than not, we hear of wands who are exactly like their owners, but there are also references to wands that choose someone with complementary characteristics instead of matching ones. A child who needs to find peace and healing finding a wand of that nature does not necessarily have that characteristic to begin with, only the knowledge that its something they need.
It's probably JKs way of making the boy's even in opportunity (even though I strongly disagree that their situations were equitable), but my argument stands. Children are innocent, and when one is in need of healing a phoenix will not discriminate.

    • @Aufeii
      @Aufeii Před 4 lety +71

This makes a lot of sense. I think more it would be because of the loyalty characteristic of the wand however as that's what's emphasized and special about a phoenix feather core. The children needed stability and something that would never abandon them

That's a really good point. I mean - CLEARLY Fawkes knows a LOT more than he lets on, like when he knew to follow Harry into the Chamber. I mean - we don't know for 100% certain Dumbledore did that, so Fawkes could have future abilities. Plus, Phoenixes are associated with flames, and Pyromancy comes from Pyro (Fire) and Mancy (Divination), which literally means The Divination of Fire, and since Divination is the art of reading the future, it's entirely possible that Fawkes was able to predict the future, because Phoenixes are so deeply linked to fire.

    I have another theory:
So J said that the phoenix represents rebirth. And Ollivander said that Voldemort did great things (terrible, yes, but great) and implies that Harry will do great things.
Harry and Voldemort are very special: Harry survives the Killing Curse twice (first time he was saved by love and second he sacrificed himself out of love) and Voldemort is the first wizard to create more than 1 Horcrux. Voldemort has been "rebirthed" because he underwent such a great transformation. Harry is "rebirthed" because he, well, didn't die when he was killed two times in his life.
Also, Voldemort HAS done great things: he pushed the boundaries of magic further than anyone else had ever attempted. Obviously, Harry has also done lots of great things.
Maybe Harry and Voldemort both perfectly represented the Phoenix and were an equal match for each other (like the prophecy said, Voldemort created his enemy).
And why Fawkes? Clearly Dumbledore is strongly connected to both characters. He was the one to bring Tom Riddle into the Wizarding World. Dumbledore was the one who gave Harry his quest. And Fawkes is loyal to Dumbledore. Fawkes was so close to him that the feathers Fawkes gave were ~infused~ with Dumbledore-ness...
    Just another possible theory????

  • @bobdole4916
    @bobdole4916 Před 4 lety +650

A more direct explanation might be that Dumbledore and Voldemort (and Harry) could all be related through the Peverell family. We know for certain that Harry is related to the brother who had the cloak (hence, why his family has it) and we know for certain that Voldemort is related to the brother who had the stone (Marvolo says so when he's waving the ring in the ministry wizard's face).
Wouldn't it make sense that Dumbledore is also related to a Peverell brother - which is why he was able to defeat Grindelwald when it was Grindelwald who had the Elder Wand?
I think that's why their three lives are so intertwined - because they're all the current descendants of the three Peverell brothers.
When Dumbledore's family tries to escape their scandal, they move to Godric's Hollow. Wouldn't it make sense that they chose that particular place because that's where a part of their family comes from?
I think the Deathly Hallows ended up with who they ended up with because of that familial tie.

A Phoenix giving two feathers might symbolise it’s comtribution to a great balance between the power of opposites . The Phoenix represents both opposites creation and destruction. Two feathers symbolise that the nature of the Phoenix is tied to the ultimate fate of balance between good and evil . Harry and voldy getting their respective wands was appropriate . The pheonix wand given to voldy was appropriate as he truly could perform a large range of magic , the wand found an appropriate master . Harry was meant to have the other wand as he was meant to destroy Voldemort and Priori incantatum would be part of the destiny of chosen one ,or else harry would be dead and goblet of fire would be the last movie . Both the twin Wands were loyal to voldy and harry but their true loyalty was to balance between opposites the legacy of the Phoenix . The twin Wands worked together to prevent Voldemort from destroying his horcrux harry and they both worked to help Harry survive Voldemort . Harry’s wand was loyal to him and voldy wand was loyal to him , but above this they were loyal to balance between good and evil . One of the feathers contributed to Voldemort’s power , Voldemort’s creation but also to the creation of his horcrux harry . The other wand also contributed to the creation of harry in the context it brought up the boy who lived and played a crucial role in his life which was essential to destroy Voldemort .
Conclusion of the effect of the twin Wands
    1) creating Voldemort
    2)creating horcrux harry
    3) protecting Voldemort from destroying his own horcrux
    4) creating the chosen one
    5) protecting the chosen one
    6) destroying Voldemort
It appears each of their wand was loyal to them but by doing so loyal to their true and higher cause : the legacy of balance of opposites , the legacy of the pheonix

I think the explanation is simple. We know that Dumbledore went around tracing Voldemort's past. Since Olivander remembers every wand he ever sold, he should have revealed that the wand core was a phoenix feather. Dumbledore should have acquired the bird to work out a way to neutralize Voldemort's wand. As phoenix always helps a Dumbledore in need, it should have willingly given a second feather. The wand eventually chose Voldemort again. But only this time it was the Voldemort that was within Harry.

I think that's actually one of the things I most dislike about the franchise. Tom is so one dimensional. I feel like Rowling, as good of a writer as she is, did not give Tom enough time to grow. She didn't explore why he had the beliefs he did or why he felt so self righteous about wizard supremacy. It's like she didn't know how to balance out Tom from Voldemort. Honestly, Voldemort was at his most terrifying when he wasn't present imo. Because people not calling him by his actual name sort of transformed him into this superstition of sorts. One thing that has me asking a lot more questions is
"how did Voldemort get his old wand back?"
He clearly states to his death eaters "I was less than a spirit" and we know that he was unable to actually hold a wand without his body, he also states this.
We know that he went to the Potter's household alone that night, because if he had been with some death eaters, they would have been able to perform the spell needed to restore him, and wouldn't have needed to "seek him out" as he states in the graveyard.
We also know that the order of the phoenix gets to the potter household relatively fast afterwards, as Hagrid states he pulled Harry from the rubble himself.
That means that Voldemort's wand must have been in the rubble at the time the order of the phoenix came to inspect, and assuming the killing curse didn't obliterate Voldemort's body (which would either have destroyed the items he was wearing/carrying, or left them all in the rubble still), the wand should be there, and I'm sure the Auroras and/or the order of the phoenix would have searched the place pretty thoroughly, not least to extract the bodies of the potters, they should have found it.
Considering they didn't find the wand, and it would be a death eater who went and searched later, that would mean it had to be Peter who went and searched, and found the wand, then holding on to the wand of his Master without using it, and without expecting Voldemort to be alive.
So how does Voldemort get his own wand back?

Maybe Dumbledore contacted Olivander to have him make a phoenix feather wand for Credence, one that was powerful enough to destroy the blood pact. But knowing the power and danger of making a wand more powerful than most others, from being obsessed with the elder wand together with Grindelwald in his youth, Dumbledore asked Olivander to make a second wand that would equal the power of the first one.
That would mean that Dumbledore unknowingly enabled the crimes of Voldemort in the future by providing Credence with a powerful wand so that they could stop the crimes of Grindelwald. This would have made an even greater burden of guilt on Dumbledore for the rise of Voldemort, but it would also mean that he knew about the potential of the second wand to eventually defeat Voldemort all along. Dumbledore might have been waiting many years for the second wand to choose its master. When it finally choose Harry, the boy who survived Voldemort’s killing curse, there was hope that his plan to make a second rivallary wand to safeguard against the first one might work.

    I have a different theory:
According to Herodotus, the Egyptians (or more accurately the inhabitants of Heliopolis) believed that the phoenix came to a temple every 500 years, where it died and rose from the ashes.
To me this implies one of two things:
1 A phoenix can only die once every 500 years to be reborn
2 A phoenix has precognition about its death
We see Fawkes die twice in the span of three to four years, so I am going with number two.
It may be the case, that a phoenix doesn't only have precognition about his next death, but about all his deaths in the future, which would include precognition about being killed by Voldemort, which would mean he had at least a little precognition about the most powerful dark wizard of all time as well.
So Fawkes being aware of the threat gave two feathers: One goes to Voldemort (which means Fawkes ironically created the weapon that kills him) while the other waits in Ollivander's shop until a boy enters, who is destined to defeat the dark lord.
Fawkes wasn't "edgy" or a "dark phoenix". He cleverly laid out a death trap to a wizard who never expected that beings he considered "lesser creatures" were able to harm him.

Credence's obscuros gets subdued by dumbledore which makes him a squib again. Leading him to live like a Muggle and change his name to Tom Riddle - who also has Nagini as a companion who eventually keeps that loyalty to credence's son after his death. Voldemort is dumbledores nephew, hence why the phoenix interacts with him and why he is so powerful. He has the blood line of two very powerful lines, Slytherin and Griffindore.

Phoenixes are related to rebirth and both Tom and Harry died and were "reborn". Tom was reborn multiple times by the horcruxes and Harry when he chose to keep living after being hit with the killing curse in the forest. But I always thought that Harry got that wand because of the piece of Tom's soul inside him. The same reason why the Sorting Hat considered putting Harry in Slytherin. Both objects sensed Tom's soul fragment inside Harry.

  • @christphern
