20 years on, how the Korean wave has evolved in Mizoram

- Korean wave reached the northeastern state of Mizoram in the early 2000s. It was one of the first places in India where the South Korean pop culture influence first made its mark. After nearly two decades, ThePrint traces how the state has customised the global cultural juggernaut to suit its requirements.

Great job team 🎉. The Print is my goto channel whenever it comes to North-East news. Hoping for more content to come from North-East India.😊
Great job Monami. Well researched. Keep it up.
Love the video and the reporting!🙌
What an interesting video. It's so nice to know more about the different societal likes and dislikes of NE states.
Nice work monami & disha!!
Very interesting video!!
The Korean and Japanese stuff is actually quite common among the tribal of northeast. I myself watched quite a bit of Korean movies and songs back in the days.
Shut up they are just Northeasterns! It's derogatory call them tribal everywhere. Just use Northeast people or Northeasterns instead.
@@saanjanibaar8085 wtf? Dude I am a tribal myself. From NE. Just because someone is from northeast doesn't mean they are tribal. That's why the distinction is necessary.
Fix your brain next time.
@@bulthaosen1169 You can be Tribal a/c to govt of India, but world expects that they atleast became Civiliazed by now in the 21st century. They are just ethinic minorities of India. They are ethinic Tibeto-Burmese people of northeast.
Western too😂
I'm from meghalaya, I remember watching *"Full house"* with my family. It is normal in northeast India.
Even in the United States..it spreads like wild fire among teenagers..They said the positive vibe they manifests in their shows is the reason why people enjoyed watching k dramas/music
Interesting
Arirang Tv was the one i started learning Korean😂.And wait every morning for K-pop in Seoul for the new song before school.

🤣 Nagaland shares the same history. It all started with Full House 😂
gateway to asia is from northeast india,
To Burma?

Maybe with time ne states can have their own industry where they will feel represented and have bigger opportunities something like hong kong

Lol 🤣 first wave of Korean in India is in Manipur 😂😂😂... Because of banned of Bollywood.
Sad reality other influences spreading to india while they being racist to us 😔
We just sit and be a consumer of their content or product
Lol as if indian are not racist . Nice joke .
@@ranfak Indians aren't racist
Korean government is a good friend of India , no threat from their culture, don't feel insecure
Get inspiration and make ur own some unique mizo band instead of just being consumer of product /content.
You need money to do unique things. Bollywood has the money. But they want only rich high class movies. Not some tribal flicks.
@@itatube7594 don't talk about bollywood lol.. they are most undeserving, ungrateful industry in the whole entertainment world. Bunch of elite and their nepo kids running the industry.
My opinion:
Ofcourse it's not easy nothing happens without money but somewhere u have to start if u don't want to just remain a consumer but producer of the product . It's not always necessary to have big budget to try or start anything .

One thing I have noticed about the Korean influence in Mizoram is that, the popularization of Kpop, has led to an increase in the number of men who express themselves in ways traditionally associated with women. Kpop men may not be the best representation of a masculine man, I don’t believe that most or even a majority of them are gay. However, in Mizoram, the influence seems to have manifested particularly among a group of men who adopt traditionally feminine mannerisms and dress as a result of Kpop.
In a state like Mizoram, where peace is often taken for granted and the economy is in need of reform, there is a need for a revival of traditional traits of masculine men so that the state can grow and prosper in the coming years.Cause when sht hits the fan, all the female who promote gay men will be wanting the masculine men to save them
Sad reality is the youth in the northeast can only consume the glamour and spend money they don't have getting caught up in all these superficial things. At the end of the day, everyone will be after a government job.
The negligence of government of India in the northeast.
last time i remember, youths of mainland india burned trucks, riot after agniveer, northeast was quiet. we are proud of our lifestyle
And what's wrong with being a K-pop fan and working for the government? You cannot stand the thought of NE people being influenced by globalisation and would love to instead see them dance in saree and memorise every Bollywood song, that's all. LOL
@@mohitanand1844 northeast in mainland india : chinki momo chowmin, charge 10 times, taunt, sexually abuse
Mainland in the northeast: Predatory money lender, exploitive business, crime.
If u mainland commit crimes in northeast, remember our tribal law means law of people. Stay in our home, behave like guest. Show illmannered mainland behaviour, get public justice
@@mohitanand1844 Globalisation is what made an entertainment industry of a faraway country influence the pop culture of a region in India. Ignorance and brown chauvinism is what makes a Mohit not able to stand the thought of NE people not really enjoying his culture.
Korean wave or Gay weak Men
