- With their friends and families waiting in the background, Class 122 of the Los Angeles Police Department's Academy eagerly waited for their turn to walk up and receive their diploma - especially 45-year-old Miguel Camarena. Rachel Kim reports.
I’m so proud. Got his citizenship and immediately signed up for public service.
God bless America and his family
Channon Christian, Christopher Newsom, Michael Savage incident.
They make good money out there but being a cop there is more dangerous
@@RossyHebrank duh. That’s why I said what I said
@@markgarcia8253 must u be rude??
He wants to take his revenge on Americans
Congrats to this gentleman. I am hoping to also get into an academy at age 37. This is inspiring.
He'll bring a life experience of empathy and family to the job. There's nothing wrong with hiring older people in intense service. In Canada we have lots of medics/firemen who change careers and become police officers. It's a great fit.
In your dreams. This ain't Canada.
At 45 yrs old chasing after 18 yr old no easy task. Ret. Class 986
I am beyond proud of this Mexican American family showing true USA love for their country 🇺🇸
They don’t hire just “Anyone”
Process is still pretty strict.
Clean criminal record
Good standing credit report
Physically capable
Mentally stable etc etc
Hats up to this new officer and all new graduates, it takes some serious balls to join the force now days, when you had just recently two cops killed on the job. Not an easy job, and its not for everyone.
You forgot the IQ requirement. It can't be too high or it's a disqualifying factor.
*see the court case of Jordan vs New London
Your propaganda is amusing. I'm guessing you're constantly answering the prince of Nigeria's emails, huh dumb dumb?
My husbnad tried back in the day, but there were a lot of quotas back then about who they can hire race-wise and he didn't get in, even though he scored high because of that. Sad, cause he worked very hard.; He ended up being a paramedic and then later switched careers. Given the state of crime etc. and general view of the police, I'm actually glad he didn't make it.
You forgot to mention, be jabbed and woke.
They hire anyone doesn’t take much to be a cop just pass a drug test and do your training
@@HotRed00 Well then maybe you should join 👍🏽
The 1st thing that went through my mind, John Nolan. Congratulations 🎊 to officer Miguel Camarena.
The rookie lol
Congratulations! It’s never too late!
Man so proud of this man…. SALUTE AND GOD BLESS OFFICER CAMARENA AND FAMILY!!!
It's great to see someone completing their dream, this is like police academy movie.
Great American congradulations Officer Camarena!
Inspiring! Thanks!!
So proud too Officer.
Stay safe! Thank you for your service.
Awesome! Thank you for your service!
I remember in the late 70's I was about to graduate high school and my counselor asked me what I wanted to do in life. I told him I wanted to be an police officer. He told me you can't because you are to short. Yes, back then you had to be at least 5'8 and I was 2 inches shorter. Some years later that rule was challenged because of discrimination laws and was lifted. The ruling is height proportionate to weight. I graduated the academy in 1983, spent 30 years at my police department, I retired, got board and now work for another police agency. It is a very rewarding career.
Hello there I’m not usually one to ask questions like this in a comment section….but I have recently applied to LAPD & CHP and I’m wondering if you have any tips for me to pass the PELLET B with flying colors.
For the last three years, I worked as an EMT on a 24 hour ambulance in conjunction with LA COUNTY fire department. I’m 35 years old but my end game has always been LE. I unfortunately had a misdemeanor that was expunged back in 2011 but in any case I needed to wait a good amount of time before I applied.
Do you have any tips or advice for me in order to make my chances the best to get hired?
Thank you
@@BasedDad35
The pellet test is challenging but you will need to study. I studied for weeks and passed it but you will need to be commited.
You can buy a book that will give example questions that shows you how to answer a question.
A lot of it is vocabulary questions, which sentence sounds better in a report. The answers are very similar and you will need to pick the best one. Punctuation is a big part of it.
As a cop, you write reports all the time. 80% is report writing
so your writing skills have to be top notch.
Good Luck.
The real “The Rookie”
LOL. Let's see if he passes probation. This is not TV.
What's even better is that he was the same age as Nolan when he graduated from the academy.
Great positive story 👍🏻 wishing him and his family all the best
I'm gonna sign up I'm 34, but I heard you have to be in LAPD for 25 years to get the pension and benefits
20 years and at least 50 years old to get 50%
Do 10 on the streets and transfer to office work in the later years there is more than one occupation within the LAPD.
@@patricianoftheplebs6015 😂him and the rest of the patrol officers who want out of the street! Good luck!
Before you do something stupid like this, go on ride-a-longs and talk to real cops doing the job and learn the truth.
Never too old
Congratulations and set the best example for future generations in law enforcement!
its never too late to do anything...we have to be positive always and always we can do it ...believe in yourself
Si se puede!! congratulations to him 😊

I just stumbled on this video, glad to know my dream is still alive
I'm 17 also want that career! I can't wait!
This is awesome. Congratulations 👏🎉, and God bless him.
I actually thought there was an age limit for the academy.
No disrespect to his man, but you can't really put restrictions on hiring when you're struggling to fill openings.
That’s awesome, now that’s a role model, Think I’m going to do the Sheriff 🤔
That's so great
Congratulations Miguel
He’s a good man, definitely going to help the community.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OFFICER MIGUEL CAMARENA AND TO ALL HIS FELLOW OFFICERS FROM CLASS 122!!! 👏👏👏

Good job
Nice backdrop for the ceremony - deconstruction zone.
Real life John Nolan lol
Work for LAPD ( 6 months ) then transfer to Beverly Hills or Orange County. LAPD can't force you to reimburse them for training. Cruise down Slauson and Vermont or cruise down Rodeo and Newport Beach. You decide?
Used to be one of the greatest police forces 2nd only to the NYPD. Now you have weak DAs who are pro crime, LAPD is shaving funds, and police are having there legs cut out from underneath them to do the job. But hats off no pun intended for doing all this despite what’s going on in California
I hope he knows the law ,
Camarena, The real life John Nolan!
More power to him. Doubtless he had to endure many jokes from his classmates about his age.
Thought 35 was the cut off…….wtf is going on?
Maybe there is hope for me
Last time I checked there is an age limit for applicants to the police force in LA. What makes this guy so special that he can bypass that policy?
There use to be an age limit no older than 33 I think but not since 2013 I was told by Garden Grove Detectives and Santa Ana PD no age limit as long as you run and pass background check u will be accepted. They were trying to recruit me. 😂
@@Chrissy411 Thanks for the explanation. 👍
Ave limit was removed after the burn loot and murder terrorist attacked fo 2020 and 2021.
@coyote g. 😂💯
@coyote g. they’re desperate who would want to risk there lives for 30 an hour? I know medics and RNs that make more and don’t have to worry about death every shift.
They should hire more people around that age, more wisdom and life experience, not some young kid who’s trigger happy
I'm 32 and I thought Maybe i was too old
Now days becoming a police officer isn't worth it. There's no respect for them anymore. Rampart division did a lot of damage to the uniform 😎
Rampart!? 😂 woke politicians
As if anyone respects you 😂
SouthWest Division no better
Rampart gets down and dirty.
This dude actually turnt
John Nolan
Omg congratulations
The rookie
How is that possible I thought there was an age limit to when you can join any Police department I don't believe it's 45 years old
