- Following Kevin McCarthy's ousting as House speaker, some House Republicans are urging former President Donald Trump to be the next speaker. Although Trump seemed flattered by the idea, he says "It's not a job I would wish on my worst enemy." Turns out, Trump is barred from serving as speaker under current House rules because of his indictments in four criminal cases. Meanwhile, interim House Speaker Patrick McHenry ordered Nancy Pelosi to vacate her private office in the U.S. Capitol.

Add ontop of that when the government "shuts down" for budget debates, they still collect their 100k+ salaries while only reporting for duties a few hours a week, meanwhile real American government workers report for their normal shifts with 0 pay until the budget is agreed upon.

I've always thought anyone could be speaker as long as they were elected by congress though a non- member has ever been elected.
“House rules” prevent it. But I don’t really know how they would enforce the rules.

She is a member of the House of Representatives as a representative of part of the state of California. The House of Representatives is one half of the U.S. Congress, with the Senate being the other half. The office she was just removed out of was not the Speaker's office but a private office. She has another office in a different building.

Another thing to keep in mind right now is that most politicians right now aren’t concerned with actually running the country as much as throwing tantrums about the fact that they’re getting exactly what they want and don’t like it. Career politicians don’t have any idea what the real world is like so when they get old they start throwing fits like toddlers because…..actually, that’s the most accurate way to describe them, now that I think about it.

She is a representative of a district in California, still so I suppose she needs an office. I read though, that THIS office was not her main office but a private one. She has another office in a different building. Maybe next election the few people still in California besides non citizens (who will most likely be allowed to vote anyway) in her district will choose someone else for their representative.
