  • This is one of the oldest roller coasters in Europe! It also used to operate with a brakeman to control the rides speed, but it was reconfigured during the 2010 season with new trains that do not require a brakeman. This makes it a lot less exciting than the Rutschebanen down the street at Tivoli Gardens.

Yeah. Its just a shame that the trains used on it absolutely suck. For context ever since 2010 they've used new trains by the manufacturer Kumbak, which unlike the old ones dont require a brakeman. The problem is, apart from the fact that the new automatic brakes slow the trains down way too much, is that the new trains ride the track very roughly, and the restraints are abysmal. They WILL come down further on you during the right and are very uncomfortable.
But if one wants to experience this ride as it was originally, you still can. The layout of this ride is actually a cloned one that the Danish coaster builder Valdemar Lebech made a few off. The only other one surviving is at Linnanmaki in Finland. That one was built in 1951 but is nearly identical to its 19 year older brother here at Bakken. But in Finland they still use the original trains with brakemen onboard.

This ride was a front rower in my opinion the pacing over some hills were really bad. The new updated trains had lap bars the went down on you during the ride. But they had gates and on ride photos! This was my 4th favorite at Bakken. The one on Tivoli is way better in my opinion.

I've ridden Vuoristorata (Rutschebanen's clone in Linnanmäki) a ton of times, but I've never had a chance to ride the original one. I'm curious to know how much the ride experience differs due to the lack of brakeman. From what I can tell from this video, this version of the ride really seems to crawl whenever there's about to be a drop when compared to Vuoristorata, especially at 1:25 (granted, Vuoristorata can be pretty bad about it as well, depending on the brakeman).

1932 is far from being one of the oldest rollercoasters in the world. There are still plenty of 1920s coasters operating and the oldest coaster operating today is Leap the Dips (1902).

Trust me it needs them on the double downs. And the coaster was originally designed to have a brakeman to trim it on the hills so it isn’t designed to just go full steam ahead on the hills.

@@seanmce8132 That and I mean just look at what you do. You enter a dark tunnel between the woman's legs and go up and down and up and down. That section of the ride is basically putting a bun in the oven. It was even more blatant at Tivoli Gardens where they also had a naked woman above one of their tunnels back in the day.

This blew my mind when I went on it.
When it's cold and just open the brakes dont hit nearly as much (because train arrive slower on them), and the double downs at the back are insane.
Didn't expected something this aggressive. I do wish I could have done it with a brake-man and old tains tho.
The 3 main rides in this park are on steroïd. Like : RCDB rank Ulven as a family ride... really ? LOL.
And Tornado is not "extreme" on RCDB either while it first half with the boosted lift is insane.
Still, the "Rutschebanen" at Tivoli is yet on another level (especially with the brake-man that simply doesnt brake LOL).
