Black and Decker Coffee Maker Review - DCM600W 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker

- LINK TO Black & Decker Coffeemaker: amzn.to/1bP93Ir So, I decided to review this Black & Decker DCM600W 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker because it is basic, inexpensive and it does what it's supposed to. It's super compact and takes up hardly any space on your counter top. It's about 11 inches tall.There is one red button to turn the unit on and off. There is no beep to let you know that the coffee is done brewing. There is a removable filter basket. You can use paper filters or a permanent basket filter. The glass carafe holds 5 cups. Here are the two cups I use for coffee every morning. They hold about 12 ounces each. I fill water up to the 3 cups to make 2 cups of coffee. 3 cups is about 16 ounces in the pot. There is a window to see how much water is filled.
It's very easy to clean, the basket comes out with ease and so does the glass carafe. It brews a good cup of coffee and all the coffee grinds are wet which means the water went through it. So far, there's been no dripping or leaking from the pot.
What impressed me about the black and decker coffee maker most is that it brews a really good cup of tea. I'll show you how to make chai with this simple recipe. Usually, you'll boil milk, tea leaves and spices in a pot and strain it all to make chai. This saves you from washing a pot and strainer. Put tea leaves, cinnamon, ground cloves and ground cardamom in a filter. Heat milk in your cup and pour into carafe. Brew and you have delicious chai in a few minutes.
I’m impressed, I have to say. Really hardly ever do I encounter a videos that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, youve hit the nail on the head. Your thought is excellent; the problem is one thing that not sufficient people are talking intelligently about. Im very glad that I stumbled throughout this in my seek for something regarding this.

Nice review. Just a note: coffee is a spice. The oils from the spice are blocked by paper filters. Use a mesh (reusable) filter to get the flavor and health benefits you may be seeking.
I am an Indian so I like my tea in a traditional way,but that coffee maker is pretty nice for its size.
Got a similar coffee maker and didn't have any clue how to use it, the manual wasn't of much help. Very useful demo.

@@CALI-ll7iv I think you'll have to figure it out with trial & error, only for 1 cup I take 2 heaps in a teaspoon or else it tastes & looks very light
Debosmita, heat up the milk and pour it into the glass carafe, then brew your tea. Only water should be poured into the tank, no milk. Enjoy :)

What if we put cold milk in the brewing cup? The coffee maker is supposed to make this thing quick, but if we have to warm our milk on the stove separately, it will be one extra step to get our tea. Would cold milk work for the tea? Or is it just good for coffee?

On filters, what type of permanent filter will fit into this brand. I have ordered this machine online, to be received in a couple of weeks. Till then, I can work on the accessories. Paper filters are a hassle as you need to keep a check on the stock.
Hi, I was wondering what you meant when you said (for coffee) "it brews a medium strength brew" - isn't the strength of your brew determined by how much water you add?

.Do the coffees that are sold in supermarkets all "freeze dried"? (Maxwells, Folgers, etc..) Because the coffees like Starbucks always say use within 30 days or so. I don't think so, it doesn't keep it warm even if you keep switch on, you have to use it as soon as the maker is done or maybe transfer it to a flask to keep it warm.

I bought my program black and decker about 2 months ago. Loved it. Got up today and it is dead. I plugged it in several different places still does not work. The clock and everything is dead. Very disappointed.

+fitore tahiri Hi, you can try Turkish coffee but it might not brew as strong as in a regular pot on the stove. Also, extremely finely ground coffee like Turkish coffee is not best suited for standard coffee makers :-)

I think the coffee maker shown didn't have a default filter that comes with the basket she pulled out 0:36. Some brands have a removable filter that comes with such baskets to trap the fine coffee sediment that can flow into the glass jar below. So alternative shown here is to use paper tissues but with high heat, they could tear, didn't try that yet. Some even use a sock as coffee filter.

I don't know why. I feel the taste is so light by using this machine.... I use one tb spoon coffee powder with 1 cup water.....I don't know what's wrong.
You are supposed to use two level tablespoons of coffee grinds per 6 oz. of water for strong coffee. For example, see here - www.folgerscoffee.com/coffee-how-to/how-to-measure-coffee

+RAJ SHERGILL Hi Raj, only water can be poured in the reservoir. You can brew coffee with very little water so it's concentrated and add heated milk to the carafe :)

I have a worse and cheaper coffee maker than yours. I think the favor of the coffee isn't strong enough for me. At least, it is far far away from mcdonal's. Do I need to pour the coffee back into the coffee maker and brew it again so that it comes out with a stronger favor?
+Steph Fong Hi Steph, you can try using more coffee when you first brew. If it still brews weak coffee, I suggest getting a different coffee maker to save money in the long run on using extra coffee. Don't know witch brand, but generally, arabica beans I think is the best ones. Then of course, different companies roast them in different ways. I prefer Maxwell House ground coffee, it's my all time favorite. Especially the original roast and the breakfast blend.

Issa Alkindi Hi Issa, Here is the recipe I used in the video - 2.5 cups water, 2 tablespoons tea leaves, 1 cinnamon stick broken, 1/2 tsp ground cloves and 4 cardamom pods crushed. Heat up 1/4 cup half and half or 1/2 cup whole milk and pour into the carafe. Pour water into tank. Place remaining ingredients in filter and brew tea. Add sugar to the brewed tea. Adjust the spices to your liking when making tea in the future. Hope that helps :-) Please subscribe if you haven't already!
