    That is the experience most West African countries went through. coups carried out by very young and inexperienced soldiers who end up creating suspicion amoung citizens and destroy the social fabric

    Shut and analyse why he committed that coup! How does it feel when you are suppressed in your own land?

    As Liberian thanks so much for the brief summary of the life and death of former president Doe. Former president Doe also contributed to civil war in Liberian, has he going to resigned Liberia was not going to witness brutal civil conflict that took our country nearly 18 years of civil conflict

      It's indeed a bitter history. I am currently working on the History of the First Liberian War and, History of the Second Liberian War. The revelations are heart-wrenching. God help Africa.

    At no time after the coup did Doe promote himself to the rank if General. Fact is, as Head of State, he automatically was the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia which is a Five Star General. But let it be said that all of the Non-Commission officers who were member of the Junta were promoted to ranks ranging from Colonels to Generals.

    Samuel k. Doe was the 20th President.

  • @richardderossmensah5213

    Samuel Doe was a Master Sergeant and he never promoted himself to any other rank. Being a President of Liberia ranked you as commander in chief of the Army Forces of Liberia which means in time of war you are a Five Star General

    Most of the history explained here is correct, except that Samuel Doe and his colleagues didn’t overthrow Tolbert. Please research that and make your correction, thanks!

      Dear Giboroh, I surely will. Senegal is another country with rich history in Africa. I understand that it has never experienced a military coup before. This is so commendable and shows extraordinary maturity and restraint from the armed forces of the country.

    Liberia is one of the oldest independent countries in Africa, not one of the oldest “democracies” in Africa. For over a century so called America-Liberians subjugated Native Liberians. Get your facts straight.

    • @backinhistory9
      @backinhistory9  Před rokem +10

      In this video, I have clearly stated that for more than 100 years, the Americo-Liberians dominated the politics of Liberia and that, no native Liberian was given an opportunity to clinch offices in the mainstream politics of Liberia. I have also stated that it took Samuel Doe to break the jinx through a coup. Despite these you still tell me to check my facts. Hmmmmm !!!
      Secondly, Liberia had never been ruled by a military dictatorship before Samuel Doe struck. It was governed by people who emerged through periodic elections. It thus remains the democracy in Africa till date.
